All, thank you for the Devil's Bowl advice, it was a great trip with my Father.
We stayed at the Holiday Inn in Forney, TX, about ten minutes from the track. Found a great little dinner called Mama’s Daughter’s in Forney for breakfast. Then spent the day wandering and exploring the towns of Forney, Sunnyvale and Mesquite, TX. The two of us traveling in from out of town, one from Tennessee and one from South Dakota, the weather was perfect for a day and night at the track. At the track, the food from the BBQ trailer outstanding (I recommend the pulled pork sandwich). I was planning to try some Mexican Food from the track concession stand later in the evening, but the lines were crazy long all night. There was a great turnout, the crowd was huge, if not sold out, it had to have been close. Everyone we spoke to was outgoing and helpful.
Devil’s Bowl is a cool facility, the elevation difference between the front stretch and the backstretch is very unique unlike any other oval I have been to. It was neat to stand between turns one and two and look downhill toward the front stretch and uphill toward the backstretch. Maybe it was just me, but I thought that being at the site of the first World of Outlaws races gave the track atmosphere a feeling of historical importance and uniqueness. The organization of the evening’s race was very well ran, the racing of the two support classes were good and pretty clean. The track was FAST, impressive fast, all night, from hot laps to the completion of the WoO A-Feature. As a result, there may not have been many passes on this night, but the impressive speed was also amazing to watch..
All in all, it was a great night at the races and an even better trip, I would recommend visiting Devil’s Bowl to any fan.
