BigRob,

I have been involved in racing for 30 years and I have seen fights at every racetrack I have been to sometime or another. It is what the racetrack does to punish the offender that counts. It sounds like Paul is handling it correctly. What I can't believe is a racer that wins getting out and saying that the track is to fast. I thought this was racing, it is supposed to be fast. These younger drivers always want a slowed down dry slick track. Need to man up and drive the car.

I certainly hope someone went to the pits and returned the favor on Shank. What an asshole.

Cheers!

Paul:

Why was Terry allowed in the pits after the fight? I took my family in the pits to see some friends and saw Roger and Terry laughing and having a good time after the races and everyone asked me why he was even there and why the car was still there? There was other people asking the same thing. As a family place I would think you would want those people to leave immediately instead of letting the fans see that.

Roger and Terry need to be fined ALOT as Roger is a direct rep of Terry and supports his actions as well as the crew chief. The crew chief should also be banned as there is no reason to pull wires off someones car to eliminate them from competition.

I think its funny that Terry gets banned for life because he hits some one on their helmet with his helmet but yet when a group of guys jumped Terry and put him in the hospital they can come back anytime. I think its bullshit really. Why doesn't someone post the video of what happened to piss Terry off.

Hmmm. One of the biggest moments in NASCAR history is a helmet beating on national TV. Cale is a freaking hero.

I have seen many drivers throw a helmet at an on-coming car. If the car is moving at only 40 mph and that thing connects.....it could break your neck. Don't ever remember anyone going to jail over it.

What about when TK turned his car around in Chico and crashed into Foresberg head on with other drivers still on the track. Is TK banned for life? There is video proof of that one. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1EHdR1gkYZU

That guy was way out of hand and obviously pissed about something they aren't showing, but most of you sound like a bunch of typical Californian's "He should go to jail", "That's assault".

The guy in the yellow car shoulda got out and beat his ass, but he probably knows he caused the whole thing or he's just as yellow as his car.

Or he's the promoter's son and has more class than that. Could definitely be that.

Is this the same promoters son who got in trouble for crashing a guy AFTER the checkers earlier in the year? Was that a CLASS act? No I think maybe he just has big balls and no brains IN the car. Still not cool to get clubbed by another guy, so show some balls and get out of the car....and go beat his ass.

There is NO excuse for the BS in the video. Try to justify it all you want, but hitting a guy (or girl) who is strapped in their car (or not) shows very poor self control, lack of respect for the sport and just plain stupidity.

To answer questions, 1. roger was told , On the track, to get his car, driver, himself and series the hell out of MRP and never return. short of a physical altercation or pressing charges with the police there was little we could do without making the problem worse. Ron LaPlant the guy who kicked shank in the head has NEVER been allowed to compete at MRP since the incident. Jeremy smacked his right rear with a guy after a race on a cool down lap. the guy tried to retaliate and flipped himself. Jeremy was disqualified for the night. that was 2 years ago and if you remember he lost the wingless championship by one point. lastly, anyone who gets out of his car on the track without an emergency is done for the event. Until some lowlife weasel sneaked up and ripped the wires out of jeremys car, he planned to win the race. There is no positive scenereo that could have come from his leaving the car. Any decent car owner would have fired that no class POS on the spot. He beat jeremy with enough force to split jeremy's simpson bandit and give him severe neck and back pain. The days when any promoter could condone ANY physical violence are long gone. Shank had better thank his gods that we didnt call the cops. with all the video that will surface in the next days charges of felony assault with a deadly weapon would be a slam dunk.

This isn't the first time Schank and I have had problems nor do I think it will be the last. We are both two incredibly competitive individuals. I have no problems standing up to Terry and have multiples times. However I have enough control over my actions not to throw the first punch. My car was working great and I felt like i had a good chance at taking home the hardware. I wasn't going to jeopardize my chances at that. As someone has stated earlier in this post I have had an altercation with another driver in the past. I was dq'ed and it cost me the championship. I didn't agree with that call at the time, nor do I now, but I can tell you I sure as hell think twice now before I do something stupid. As far as what happened leading up to this incident, Terry and I had been swapping positions cleanly for the first couple laps. I got a good run on Terry coming up the front stretch. I threw my car in under his at the same time he threw his in. Instead of running the cushion like he had the laps before he went in and tried to cut the corner off to get a run on the car in front of him. I've watched the video a few times now and I really dont know what I could have done differently other than let off coming down the front stretch to not get a run on him. I threw my car in the same time he did. I've had no problems leaning on Terry or giving him the same treatment he gives me with a dirty slide job or two but that wasn't the case here. He had given me no reason to run him dirty. As far as i'm concerned it was a racing deal. Hell i almost ended up on my lid too. Heres the video http://youtu.be/aSKVA1_rVYQ

OH, Also - Correct word from car owner's mouth upon driver's return to the trailer: "FIRED!" Really only one word needed but anything that would suggest anything besides termination of driver duties might suggest that you condone such behavior and, well, you have a business that most would assume you would like to help pay your bills. Magneto brands or ignition system types should change if a statement isn't made condemning this incident in the strongest terms. As for your series: It could be a quiet promotors workshop for you as well should you decide to turn a blind eye to this.

For the record: I was physically ill by what TK did that night to Andy. Sick to my stomach for nearly a week I was so upset by it. I've known the kid since before he completed his first decade of life but I did not have his back on that one. In fact I don't know anyone who did. He was suspended and fined I believe. I also understand that TK's car owner at the time either purchased or offered to purchase Andy a new frame. ADDITIONALLY there have been NO incidents (none) even remotely approaching that incident since then. Since TK was around a little under 10 years old some 31 years ago I think it's safe to say that Terry Schank is a little older. Probably been around longer. Probably should know better. I think you see where I'm going with this.....

Maybe what should happen is Paul receives support from the other track promoters in the area and they all ban him for his actions. If a driver knows he can't travel to the next track and race maybe he will think or we as supporters / car owners know he will be out of the sport for a year or so. There is no place for this in racing. The second issue is a driver is strapped into the car and can't even move his arms up to protect his head, you can see that in the video. Criminal charges? YES . If you are standing face to face with someone that is one thing but to be tied into a seat and have this happen is WRONG.
