Guys sliding off the top of a banked track that has no walls and having a clean shot at just driving back on the track but stopping instead to draw the yellow fries me more than most. Close second to that is a car that is in a class that is self-starting waiting until they draw a yellow to re-start and continue on.

Also, having 7 cars in a class show up and then running two heats. One with 4 cars, and one with 3.

Having to pay 4 damn dollars for a seat that only should be reserved for a Royal, Dream, World 100. No way in hell should you have to for a race like the Sunday of Memorial Day weekend, Thanks Eldora you put the final nail in the coffin for me. Then to make all the blocks individual as well, BOOOO. Some of them lawn chairs that people have stick out over the Golden line that they painted. Had a lot of years of going there but no more. I'm sure my brothers will still enjoy it though & to the friends I've met over the years maybe I'll see ya at another track somewhere.

Single file restarts with a cone.... Also not taking out the lapped cars on restarts.

Agree on both.

Race fans buying Walmart Knoxville Nationals shirts! Seriously take a look at them. For years they didn't even have a sprint car on them. It was some kind of pavement supermodified. This year they do have a sprint car but the image is reversed so the wing and wheels are backwards and in the corner they still have a picture of the supermod. It's just Walmart trying to suck every last penny out of everything with the least possible effort. Give your t-shirt $ to a driver or a race shirt vendor. They support or sport.

Yes that was ridiculous having to pay $4 for a seat. Now you know Tony needs all the money he can get, so why not charge more.Yes I will still go there and enjoy the races.

Yep that was my first time there. I was pissed when I walked past the ticket booth and saw that tickets were cheaper. So I was penalized for prepaying for my ticket? Convenience charge? Isn't it more convenient to just walk up to the window to buy my ticket?

I agree with the single file restarts, but don't with the lapped cars. I feel if the leader had to lap them so does everyone behind the leader. He worked to get around the lapped car why shouldn't anyone else?.
|
Agree. A lot of times it can make for a boring ending to a race, but if the leader had to pass the car, then everyone else should have to.

Three divisions of racing at a special event...I'm spoiled, charge me an extra couple dollars to get out at a decent hour please. Weekly shows do what you need to make a profit, I get that. A speeweek show or an Outlaw show just one support class with time constraints. I love racing, I don't want to have a birthday while I wait for the feature...

During the past few months I've thought about posting the following comments but never had the enthusiasm to actually take the time to post them. I guess today's main page on Hosehead's (four photos) pushed me over the top so here goes. In my mind (what's left of it) there's few things lamer than Victory Lane photographs with the flag man (starter per Duane Sweeney) in them holding a checkered flag. Don't get me wrong--I think flag men generally do a great job of keeping the racing safe and orderly--I just think they don't belong in Victory Lane. What, if any, racing pet peeves do you have??
|
I don't care who's photo I'm taking in victory lane but I'd prefer someone a little easier on the eyes than a bearded balding flagman. Hooters girls would be nice but the tracks up in my neck of the woods are too politically correct to get it.
Not being able to find just one ice cold beer after I get out of the infield and put my camera equipment in the trunk is my pet peeve. I usually have to drive home but it would be nice to be able to find just one. This past weekend I attended the "Hell Summer Tour" for UMP Late Models/USMTS Modified show and it was a fitting name because I had a helluva time finding a beer after the races. I managed but it took some searching.

My pet peeve- How every single thread gets turned into a Posse / Not-the Posse bullshit thread.
For example- see the thread about Nebraska 360's not racing at Knoxville. Posse / Not-the Posse bullshit. Once somebody lifts their tail, the thread is exactly like the last 500 threads- childish, repetitious, and boring.

RAIN
as far as the flagman is concerned i think its just tradition.
|
It don't rain in so California . And we very seldom race them winged modifieds. We race 410 sprint cars without them wings . But I am lucky enough to have a great 410 wing series just a couple hours away . So my pet peeve is not enough sprint shows with this economy.
We need more sprint car racing at our home track.

I hate sitting next to fat people in a crowded grandstand! They take up wayyyy more room then their spot in the row. I then sit there knock kneed so they can sit there legs spread open and watch em eat even more........geesh people buy 2 tickets!!
just my 2 cents here......

1. dragging a race out i.e. down time to allow more concession sales then have to rush or shorten the a-main due to curfew.
2. To Doug Auld's article this month in SC&M mag regarding Jack Miller's comments on knowing when to "take a break" as an announcer. There are more and more tracks that never shut up. I do not mind 5 minutes of quite every once in a while to talk to the people next to me or just relax. I much prefer quite over some distorted rock or country music blasting over the PA system. World Finals please take note.

You sure hit the nail on the head with your comment. This is one of the reasons I stopped going to the Knoxville Nationals many years ago. You walk up to your designated seat and find a 6 inch wide spot, due to a pair of 250 pounders on either side. And, of course you know you are in store for that all 4 days. At most tracks, I now purchase general admission seating rather than reserved because of this issue. A few years ago at the Oval Nationals in Perris, CA, I had a reserved seat next to a larger-sized husband and wife combo. They had purchased 2 extra tickets so they wouldn't infringe on someone else's space. I have never seen this kind of courtesy either before or since then.
My own pet peeve is tracks that don't have time limits on the filler classes. 20 laps or 20 minutes, whichever comes first. Make an exception for red flags or fence repairs. This would greatly reduce the "spin, park, and re-fire after the yellow comes out" that you see with many of these classes. I know some tracks around the nation have a rule like this, but not enough of them.

AMEN!! My brother and I were at the Nationals a few years back and due to our prior experience we had an extra ticket to make sure we weren't squeezed into less than the seats we paid for. Well that didn't matter we had a group of huge people taking up way more than their allotted space. So we sat there crushed into less than 2 spaces when we bought 3 damn tickets!! Then the overly large gal next to us chose to cough and sneeze my direction the entire time in between stuffing her face with nachos, fried whatever and candy. Give me a break. If your of larger than normal size buy an extra ticket, its not your fellow race fans weight problem its YOURS. Southwest Airlines doesn't let you squeeze into a single seat without buying an extra ticket, neither should race tracks with assigned seating!
