Almost all food concessionaires now require bag searches, and many are now requiring once-in / once-out policies at the gates. (Ocean Speedway in Watsonville is now this way.) It's just about the only way an amusement operator can contract with any major concessionaire who wants to minimize his risks. Don minimizes =his= risk by offloading the food concession. Patrons are not allowed to tailgate further once they've entered most major sports facilities nowadays. Welcome to trying to eek out a profit in the modern world. (Ascot has been closed for 23 years now, btw.)

You all crack me up ya know. I have to laugh. At least on the forum, where I don't get to a lot cuz of Jimmy's homework n stuff and the laptop is way to small for these eyes to read everything, you guys have said everything I have said on Facebook but I have gotten personally attacked, being called lots of names amongst other things.

With all of this crap going on at the PAS, people wonder why I would rather go to Canyon than Perris? OMG!!!

I love y'all. Thanks for making this girls night. Now, I have proof I'm not the only one who's saying these things like I've been accused of.

Hope to see y'all @ Canyon soon. Maybe even Yuma this weekend, if things go as planned. If not, the next race for the ASCS boys.

Smile

RIP Chet and Mark. You might be gone but never will
be forgotten.

So why would you snitch them out? You just gave the goon squad ammo. Now they are gonna search your purse.

Miller Lites in a baby buggy? That is outstanding, way to go donkey squad. Nice job screwing things up for everyone when you get caught. Vodka bottle in your purse is alwasy a good idea too. Listen, let me clear this up for everyone. There is no one who consumes more adult beverages than I do at the races, I don't plan on cutting down, I don't plan on being any more responsible about it; I am going to drink my beers with my friends while enjoying the one thing in this life I love. Open wheel racing. HOWEVER, I am going to continue to bring enough money to buy what I want and how many I want inside the track.

Perris Auto Speedway is truly the very best in the USA bar none. I have been to all of them including Knoxville, I live 8 miles from Canyon, Perris is the best. While there will alwasy be the knuckle head eliment anywhere you go I think we need a reality check. Hey stupid people, bring your money to support the damn sport or drink less beers. Quit trying to get the beer licnese suspended by not following the rules, and finally if you can't manage to keep yourself from doing something stupid that could ruin things for me and cost Don money he doesn't have to pay a fine for you then stay home. Or just man up and ask me to buy you a beer... I won't say no.

I was at Perris Auto Speedway on Saturday night and had brought a guest from Thunder Bay, Ontario, Canada. I was pretty disappointed in the situation. I was not disappointed in the racing, as the PAS always produces stellar racing.

Some observations:

Parking is now $8 and is considerably more inconvenient.

Qualifying was over before we bought our tickets at the gate somewhere around 6:10.

The new price of admission will certainly keep some of my race fan friends from making the trek more than twice this year.

The "no reentry" sign on the gate.

The seemingly young and inexperienced security personnel that are charged with enforcing the no reentry rule. I had the impression that someone with a legitimate reason to run back out to their car would have their pleas fall on ears that lacked judgement.

The stands had a noticably lower attendance than years past, and not just by a little bit.

The PAS' continued effort to make their product more appealling to the community at large. They organized a meet and greet for the fans on the front stretch. An estimated half of those in attendance took advantage of the opportunity to go out on to the track and talk with drivers and teams or to take their photo with each and every car entered in competition. This only took an estimated 45 minutes.

4 heat races for the 410 sprint cars. They're worth the price of admission every time.

Followed by, and I'm pretty sure about the order: California Lightning Sprint heats, PAS senior sprint heats and the 410 B main event. Then intermission. This is when people started leaving. The dad's with kids that were falling asleep, the seniors that lost interest, and some ordinary Joes heading for the gate. It happens every race, but there was something peculiar about it this time. It was more prominent.

After intermission the Lightnings ran their main, then the seniors. There continued a trickling of people heading home. There were a lot of people that didn't make it this long. I didn't look at the time, but I think the 410s were pushing off about 10:00 pm.

A fabulous race that saw Spencer get to the front and take off, only to have Matt Mitchell run him down in traffic and make things real interesting about white flag time. Perris racing is as good as it gets.

Now for my opinions:

Parking fees probably wont do anything but increase. We're talking about a fairgrounds in southern California. They're going to get theirs first, no matter what type of event. I really doubt the Kazarians have much influence on this.

I'd rather see qualifying (some activity on the track) than the time it takes to push every car out front for the meet and greet. I know we're trying to appeal to new race fans and this provides an opportunity to create personal contact, but the final product suffers. A lot of people weren't around to watch their newly acquainted hero do battle in the main event.

I don't care how much it costs, I'm going racing. I bring people, and most of them don't care how much it costs either. You see us at tracks all over the country. But what about people that aren't locked into this form of entertainment yet?

I'd be willing to bet that Mr. Kazarian hasn't had much input regarding the no reentry rule. I suspect that rests squarely on Family Affair's shoulders. I think this is going to be a nail in the coffin for some folks. We had a temperature swing of maybe 15 degrees Saturday night. If your girlfriend or kid forgets a sweater in the car what happens? Good luck trying to sway the guy at the gate who has never done or accomplished anything in his entire life. "That's the rule, sir". So, we eliminate the element of the crowd that wants to slip outside and drink their own beer or whiskey or wackey tabaco, but at what cost?Medical issues, running souveniers out, blanket, jackets, leave the lights on your car? These issues will come up at every single race. Do you expect that the potential race fans we are desperately trying to reach will find this acceptable? It doesn't happen at Kings or Tulare or Pamona or Calistoga or Chico or Ventura or Antioch or Watsonville. What other fairground has this policy? Please cite the munincipal code. I think this policy is detrimental to our growth.

All of this didn't matter to me because I was at the races and everything was cool, except the gate patrol, they aint cool. But what really disappointed me was the format. What happened to trying to get the fan home. I think we adjusted ourselves out of the park.I can clearly recall leaving the PAS after the completion of a night of racing at 9:10pm in the past. The stands were packed. C main, 4 heats, dash, B main, intermission to get transfer cars adjusted, run the A and we're done. The kids were still awake to go meet their heros, take pictures and run around the track. Not now. We slipped. I cannot figure out why we had an intermission. Maybe if the 410 main pushed off first? Maybe? Possibly we had an intermission to keep the gate keepers on their toes. To sell one more hot dog. I honestly had the impression at the time that they were trying to run fans away. In my opinion, the best racing on Planet Earth, but wow, the racing formula sure has changed. Snuck up on me like $4.50 per gallon gas. I've been going to Perris since Billy Boat won a midget race in November of I think 1995. This isn't being said without a personal attachment, I love the place. I'll continue to show up and support. Its just getting tougher to get newbies to come back. Fan friendly it aint.

I was at the races with my pal, so it was all ok. But, I get paid to make observations all week long and I couldn't help noticing a few things on Saturday night too. My opinion means nothing at all.
