Out of all the great sprint car drivers who have come and gone over the years, what inactive driver (due to present day retirement or because they're no longer with us) do you most regret never having had the opportunity to see behind the wheel?
Inactive drivers only please. If they're still active you still have the chance to see them.
The ones I regret never having had the opportunity to see (and I'm showing my age here – again!) are Emory Collins, Tommy Hinnershitz, and Dick Atkins.
How about you?

Rich Vogler. He was rumored to be coming out to Baylands one year for the Outlaws, but it didn't happen. I was very disappointed. I remember my dad didn't believe me when I told him that i just watch him die on TV. I could just tell, very sad day.

I got to attend a race with my dad at IRP when Rich Vogler won there, but was too young to remember it. He would have to be the top on my list.
It would also be really neat to see what Fred Linder was like behind the wheel. We have the honor of hanging out with him a lot at the USCS races. Extremely nice young man.

Dawley and Larsen. Their was such a mystic around those 2 and I wish i could have seen more of them than I did.
Danny Young was also a hard charger coming into his own.

I never got to watch Opperman, Hinnerschitz or any of the older guys that died early in life. I consider myself fortunate to have watched Foyt, Vukovich, Andretti, Unsers all race sprints & midge cars back in the 60's.
I am very, very blessed to have watched Steve, Sammy, Wolfie, Doty, Blaney, Bobby Davis, Scruffy, Leland, Shuman, Jeff Swindell, Jac, Jacobs, Hewitt, Carmen Menzardo and countless others race against each other in the mid-80's.

Seeing how some guys wished they'd seen Wolfgang, Hewitt, and Steve Smith Sr. and I think maybe I saw more than I thought. I mentioned Opperman yesterday but others obviously would be Kenny Weld, Mitch Smith, Tilley, Hinnerschitz, Dick Tobias, and Vogler. At least I don't recall ever seeing Rich race, never made it to too many wingless races so most likely not but have heard and read much about him. Tobias, aka Toby, was my mom's favorite and never had the chance to see him because we lost him before I ever went to the races. Wasn't quite old enough to see Toby race although I saw Scott, Ronnie, and Richie race a sprint or modified along with Paul Lotier.

Over on this side (left) we loved it when USAC came to town because we wanted to see what our boy's had for them, and of course, we had plenty. I'm sure in Penn it was the same way, and since I never saw Mitch Smith run, I'd have liked to have seen this..http://www.wheelsofspeed.com/shaker.html
Half the lies they tell about me aren't true.

Frankly AJ Foyt in ANY race car. Just wish his Indy Car team was more competitive.
