I spoke with my friend Pam in Florida and heres an update on Jason Sides. Jason was approached by Brian Carter with Brian saying we need to work this out and make this thing go away. Jason eagerly agrees with Brian. The conversation takes a turn and Brian shortly leaves with nothing being setteled. So next day Jason arrives at track and before long Brian Carter and Carlton Reimers show up with papers in hand, Jason is excited that this is finally going to get settled and he is gonna get paid his money and be able to run the 2012 woo tour. Man was he really bummed out when he found out, all they had in hand was a tax papers, a deposit money paper, and a 2012 contract. Brian Carter suggests that they all can remain friends through the lawsuit, Jason will be considered gold status for 5 races and the lawsuit will takes it's course. Jason refuses to sign 2012 contract and the guys leave. Later on in the night several WRG employess stop by to say they were glad he was on board and things were settled. In NO way have things been settled and Jason and Sides Motorsports are not on board for the 2012 tour. This must of been rumoured by Carter to make him look better in some peoples eyes. Jason is going to be a true outlaw and do what he wants, race where he wants and not do or go any place he doesn't want to go. Jason is running 360 nationals at Eastbay this weekend. So keep supporting Jason and Sides Motorsports because WRG/WOO still has not done the right thing! There is a court date in August, right after the nationals!

I find it very strange that someone with a pending lawsuit and their attorney would let this kind of information out to the public if it is indeed true that it happened.

Sounds like we have some "company men" on board, saying it was OK to screw Jason for $40,000 based on the details of the contract, which makes some sense, EXCEPT:
1)WoO let other guys race
2) Jason made a good faith effort to ask for permission, & WoO didn't make good faith effort to reply
3)Aside from legalities, Jason is risking his life & $$$$ to entertain us & make $$$ for WoO. Give him a break already!

Does anyone have a copy of the 2011 contract Jason signed? One that can be posted here for everyone to see?
I think if his signature is on the contract and he did not abide by what was on the contract, then he is going to be out of luck in the end. Phone call or no phone call.
I don't think he should be racing with the outlaws at this time. Not good for his defense, kinda looking like he wants his cake and eat it too.
Question for everyone
If you were suing your employer, would you continue working for them until your case was heard in court?
|
I don't think this is as rare as one might think. I used to work for a company in which one of the office ladies (accounting) sued, and won, a sexual harrassment case against the company and still works there to this day (some 10 years after the lawsuit!). I know another similar case at a different company in which an employee sued over just plain harrassment (not sexual) and still works at the company to this day (about 8 years after the incident) and has actually been promoted to management.
Whether or not someone continues to work at, or for, a company or organization they are suing does not have anything to do with the validity of the case.

It's a "ticky tack" penalty? It sure didn't seem like Sides had any problem with accepting the tow money that WRG was giving him for signing the contract with the Outlaws. Everyone knows what the the deal is with the Outlaws. I don't get this argument that drivers should be allowed to sign a contract, collect tow money, then just ignore the specifications of running with the Outlaws. If a team is going to do that, then don't bitch and whine about it when WRG cuts you off for ignoring the exclusivity clause in the contract.
|
Time out: i know he violated the contract. I already stated that he will likely lose this battle in a court of law. My point--this is a ticky tack penalty from the world of outlaws. He was not sneaking around behind their backs. He did not have multiple violations. And, he did attempt to make contact for permission to run the race. All the outlaws had to do was pull him in the trailer, explain to him that it wasnt handled the right way and ask him that something like this does not happen again. As long as everyone kept their mouth shut there never would have been a big deal made out of this and everyone could have assumed that Jason got permission to run the race.
Yes, he broke his agreement. No, legally he is not entitled to the tow money. I agree with this. But, in the court of public opinion (which the WOO is going to need to rely on heavily in the near future) the WOO did the wrong thing and made this non-issue and issue. period.
could have been handled much better and with much less public light.

you miss the whole point...publicity..without this lawsuit = controversy ...would anyone be talking about Sides...it's a win win...WRG has proven you mess with them and you get the horn were it hurts the most ..the wallet..there is no real lawsuit..Sides admitted he broke the terms..and WRG quit paying him..neither side suffered a loss...WRG can't get the money back they payed before the contact disolusionment..he fufilled the contract till then..and they didn't pay after so where are there losses ....none.....what's more is Sides has already raced this season ..showing even he knows where the big money and sponsers are.... WOO..BTW if WRG can't enforce their contracts there's not a promoter out there that would sign with them...this whole deal may be just a con for publicity

This situation is not a win/win...
The only things that have been "proven" are that Jason Sides is irresponsible and the World Racing Group is petty and arrogant.
Jason lost his membership and guaranteed tow money, while the WRG lost one of their best known characters, an important piece of their "show"! This is hardly a win/win...
Jason deserved a warning or a ticket; instead they gave him "life"! This whole situation stinks like a cattle barn.

also one could put forth that jason didn't go to florida just to race with the woo. he was already there racing with the all stars, since he was there, and racing is how he makes his money..........
the other thing is it could be shown as a good faith gesture on jason's part, to show he is willing to work things out with the woo. jason hasn't boycotted them or refused to race at any of their events. he has shown up at their events and shown a willingness to participate. even though he has a difference of opinion on how things were handled last year, he has shown he is willing to try to work this out.
to indy and beyond!!

I 100% AGREE..
I will say this about other post and I am done. I think that some of you people need to look back at the whole situation here. Once was stated that other WOO teams were at the same race that jason was at that lead up to the current situation. Contract or no contract if you let one team race then you should let other teams race dont give someone special privelages just cause its there hometown or its there families track.
As far as you people saying Jason sits back and flys by the seat of his pants I would really like to hear your reasoning behind your comments. I and others on this board happen to be friends with him and his family and I am sorry but that is not Jason nor his company or his family the guy has chose racing to be his career he has a buisness to run and a family to support so he has to race in order to make money its not about crawling back to WOO/WRG its about making a living and putting the bread on the table for his family. Jason has always done everything according to contract and rules that are set for those guys so for you to say he flys by the seat of his pants is interesting.

how soon people forget these drivers ALL raced without the BURDEN of TOP DOWN PRESSURE for years BEFORE these worldly race experts purchased Ted's leftovers...
the teams knew THEN how to pick and choose where they wanted to race without "can I PLEASE race the same place the NASCAR TEAMS are racing tonight?"
if you think they are doing a great job - they have job openings on the WRG website...
http://www.wrgjobs.com/currentopenings.php
plenty of opportunities for hot dog chefs, tshirt specialists, paper pushers and interns...
With 8 cars commited to the tour, you'd think they might want to mention they NEED RACERS ON THE TOUR?

Dead on! Like getting a speeding ticket for doing 56 in a 55. Sure, you broke the law, but come on!
