If you want a perfect idea OF cookie cutter race tracks, look in Oklahoma, Kansas and Nebraska where all the state fairgrounds tracks have/had:
Full half mile tracks
Cemented grandstands
Covered grandstands
Those tracks include (*some have left us):
*Fairgrounds Speedway (OKC), Thunderbird Speedway (Muskogee), *Tulsa Fairgrounds Speedway (Tulsa), Kansas State Fairgrounds (Hutchinson), State Fair Speedway (Sedalia, Mo), *Nebraska State Fairgrounds (Lincoln), Belleville Highbanks Speedway (Belleville), Wakeeney Speedway (Kansas)
I know not what you had asked for but yet another version from racing of out past.
David Smith Jr.

Can't help it, but it's David Smith Jr's fault though... OK, I was here as a baby, and it's a S Cali track. It's been closed for a very long time. Can you name it?... Did they know how to park back then or what!

I'm completely stumped on this one - looks like a neat place though.

for the california crowd the old fairgrounds track at grass valley was very unique, and one of my old favs was dixon.

Yeah, Moose, I grew up at that track. I've got a TON of VHS tapes that I should find a way to get on to youtube. Old stuff from around 1985, all the way to the mid 90's when they shut it down. Cool stuff, like Rick Hirst with a clean sweep after sweeping Chico the night before, the old Mark Hall V-6 car, Dan Main just flying around that place, Colby and Andy in their first years... good stuff.
That place, especially with the dog leg was really cool.

Nothing beats Mothar Mountain speedway in Gympie, Queensland Australia, it's got an up hill and down hill front straight and an invert dog leg back straight.

If you have video of the Purcell race where Jim Perry Jr. lapped up to third place with a cast iron 377 I would be VERY interested in seeing that

I recall watching AMA Flat Track on Wide World of Sports and the bikes were running around on a track where they actually got airtime down the backstretch due to a jump, the exit of turn 4 was about 6 inches wide and a chicken wire fence separated the riders from the fans? Some gnarly crashes were seen there.

When I read the words Unique Tracks, I can't help but think Farmington, Missouri....................
|
F-town was the first track I thought of when I read the title of this thread. Anyone that's been there would have to agree.
Attica is another that I think is unique. The banking in the corners is a bit progressive. I've never been there but Lernerville is another unique track as well.

Tulare Thunderbowl is definitely a one of a kind type joint. Progressively banked paperclip.

Mothar Mountain was the wierdest shaped track I have ever seen. Almost as weird is Mt Lawn Speedway in Newcastle Indiana. Midgets are fun to watch there, wish they still ran on Wednesday nights.

I'm definitely getting prematurely senile, because I could have sworn that Baylands had a dogleg in the backstretch. Pfft.

Grass Valley was a awesome place to watch a race at. Watched NARC run there a couple of times. Tiner, Hirst, Green and McMahon(bobby not paul) put on quite the show.

It was in Gardena California, and it was one of the tracks that the original CRA, the California Roadster Association ran on. I left for Phoenix and Manzy in 56/57, and when I came back in 63 Ascot Park was the best Saturday night sprint car show in the nation. Some very cool pictures here.. http://www.fototime.com/ftweb/bin/ft.dll/detailfs?userid=161BD2CFC5CD446BB028586AF136C181&ndx=1&albumid=4237A067DAE841618CCBF3F378322CD4&pictureid=BCCDAB2B892A45118D35FD705F77C262
I might have very well have seen a NASCAR race before 63 at Riverside, but was to young to know what the hell I was watching LOL
In 1951 – NASCAR’s fourth year of existence, there were three California dirt tracks on the schedule – Carrell Speedway in Gardena, Marchbanks Speedway in Hanford and Oakland Stadium.
There were a total of 23 races run in California during the 1950s. The list of winners from those events is dotted with legends:
* In April 1951, Marshall Teague won the first NASCAR Sprint Cup race held in California, at Carrell Speedway in Gardena, driving the famed Hudson Hornet.
* Herb Thomas, the two-time series champion, won at Eureka Speedway in May 1956.
* Marvin Panch won the 1957 season opener at Willow Springs Speedway in Lancaster.

Santa Maria speedway is a unique track in that it's a amphitheatre seating track. Where you walk up the hill to come and sit down. It's great to be able to stand up at the top and watch the races and be right next to the concessions stands and bathrooms there. Plus another unique thing is it's a privately owned dirt-track, which is a real rarity in Calif.
Trophy Cup......Best race of the year hands down!
