We should all be glad we have people like Sammy in our sport...Just the mention of Sammy's name brings passion and excitement out of a lot of us, while the Jimmy Johnson type's in most cases, just brings yawns. There are exceptions for sure, Leland McSpadden's is right at the top of my list for instance, along with Dave Darland, but so is Vogler and Sammy...I'm not a big wing fan, but I got a kick out of seeing Sammy put it to Keading and the rest of the boy's at the Western World this year.

I wouldn't really call that a rule, since it has never been enforced...

Count me as one that also admires Sammy's abilities. He is one of the drivers at the top of my list for excitement. Hope he wins again this year.

Add Hewitt to the list of colorful characters.
And add the flat tire (not sure what corner) and excessive smoke rules to the short list of rules ...

Excessive smoke rule????? I don't think so. One I remember is Kahne going on for more than a couple laps while steaming and smoking and spitting out every moving part in his engine.

Marine engines at one time were quite common in midgets, though it was a LONG time ago. Over the years, there have been several different outboard entries at the CB, both Evinrude and Mercury. There have also been DOHC V6's, 1200cc bike engines and if I remember correct, there was even a Mazda rotary engine one year.

I was there and watched that Evinrude powered midget about 3 years ago. The man made an incredible charge through 3 or 4 of the mains on Saturday. He was a wheel man for sure. IF I remember correctly, I believe he was in a midget that made its' debut at the very first Chili Bowl. When his run was finally over (The C I believe), Tony Stewart was there when he rolled off the track with a big grin and his own "atta boy" remarks. I don't remember the man's name, but I definitely remember the show he put on.
Here's just a little info for some of the Sammy "haters" among us: I grew up in West Memphis, AR (home of Riverside Speedway, aka "The Ditch" where Sammy made his start. We had a B car in the early 70s, and while I was very young at the time, I was there the first night Sammy competed officially, although he'd been hotlapping Sam's car for quite some time. In short, I've been watching him pretty much all my life.
This year I ran the Short Track Nationals for the first time, and was pitted directly across from Sammy's rig. Now, grant you, I'm a nobody in this sport, but just watching Sammy work on the car, study the track, and make decisions about what to do on the car is mind boggling. He can process information and forecast track changes faster than most of us can take it in. During my time watching him prepare for the A main at Little Rock, I noticed a few things "different" about his car than most of the other 100+ in attendance. A week or so later I called him and we talked about things for probably a half hour. I learned more in that 30 minute segment than I have in multiple nights of racing. The man is a mastermind. Call him a "cheater" if you want to. The things he's doing (at least what he'll admit to) makes perfect sense when you think about them, it's just not necessarily what "everybody else" is doing....You've got to get a considerable way "outside the box" before you begin to get "into" Sammy's head.

Like him or not the question everyone should ask, is the show better or not when Sammy is running. The answer is obvious.

Who ever thinks that that was a cheaters car didn't ask any questions. Sammy actually laughed when asked what different about it. The fuel cell was different, but there was absolutely no advantage to it. The fact of the matter is, he kicked their ass. He simply has that little bull ring figured out. He know the tricks to driving it. Don't hate the player hate the game.

so in essence.....
don't hate Sammy Swindell...........hate the Chili Bowl or midget racing instead?
thats basically what that means lol. just splittin hairs and joking man. i know what you were sayin' and meanin' - but at the same time...............
Man Knoxville has Kinser and Schatz - the Chili Bowl has Swindell(s).
I think in the end - most don't really give a flying f*ck who wins the race - in the end its just the best race hands down in the world. who will win is just something to talk about. How many times was the A Main the best race on chili bowl saturdays.....prob not very many.
On the flip side - 360 racing has the Knoxville 360 Nationals and Short Track Nationals - and no one has yet to completely dominate them, but maybe thats more because they havent really been around long enough lol.
How much would could a wouldchuck chuck if a
wouldchuck could chuck would
