I think 3 WoO shows at Knoxville is plenty.  You just won't get people to show up for more than that. And attendance showed that the last few years we had the Wed. show during the Fair and the Friday show in April, so why would Knoxville spend the money to promote a show and pay the sanction fees when it's not even a break even deal for them.  I think the Wed. night show may have turned into a scheduling nightmare for the WoO anyway as it was always the Wed. night before or after the Kings Royal and the teams came from out east, all the way to Knoxville for a show in the middle of the week, and then went back east again.  Knoxville was just out of the way for them.

Besides, Knoxville has plenty of other special shows like the Midget Nationals, 360 Nationals, Masters Classic, Late Model Nationals, ASCoT, and now the USAC non-wing Nationtionals.  All of those draw pretty good crowds other than the Masters Classic. The track makes money and the costs stay lower for those shows unlike a WoO show.  Most other tracks don't have that many other types of shows.  But because Knoxville is the Sprint Car Capitol of the World and the best Dirt Track Facility in the country, it's only right that they spread the love to other forms of racing.

3 WoO races is a disgrace for a track as prestigious as Knoxville and a slap in the face to the fans who buy a ticket. Also I see no dates for the ASCS national tour 360 races which again is a disgrace. Its the same old same old and ridiculous. Its time for new blood

Wow...In looking at the schedule for k'ville, I for one feel lucky we have the management in place to see the importance of diversifying. The days of 410 winged only races in one way ticket to closing the gates. The midget nationals has been gaining in popularity and attendance each year, the same with the late model nationals. With the addition of the USAC non-wing nationals, another great opportunity to grow this into something huge. What a great thing for the fans to be able to see the best 410 winged, 410 non-winged, 360 winged, and Late Models at one venue.

The dumbest thing that the WRG would be to schedule against the nationals...that would surely improve their PR Status!!!!

The past few years that Kville ran the 2 night WOO shows, attendance on night one was horrible, expecially in April when the weather is so unpredictable..one night shows for a financial standpoint make sense.

I don't know, but I don't think Kville is doing to bad with an old grouch (who has lost contact with current issues) and a group of 24 farmers making the decisions. They seem to be pretty visionary to me.

Makisupa, maybe you should get hold of Katich, I think he is looking for more PR people for the All-Stars........

Wow when I think of Knoxville I think of it as the sprint car capitol of the world for all its accomplishments over the years and so does most of the sprint car fans on here I would guess! And now we have a few key board promoters on here complaining about the 2009 k-ville schedule. 1st of all the TOC race was-is an invite race only hence the low car count! 2nd of all by adding a big non wing show 2 nights before the big Tuesday night OSKY "The Ultimate challange" show will probably help the car count for both nights of racing. I am not sure why the car count at the Tuesday nights Osky show has went down the last 3-5 years so maybe this will help both tracks. 3rd the Knoxville Speedway has no benefit or obligation to the WOO by offering the nationals as a points race, Knoxville has made this event what it is today pretty much by itself and does not need to depend on any racing group. The WOO or anyone else who decides to schedule a big race this week would be foolish, the pay down schedule is just to good. 4th the 1200lb nationals was replaced a couple years or so by the 360 nationals. I think this Sunday night non wing show will be fun to watch on the big half mile.

I would guess a few teams decided that a big ol half mile like Osky (and now Knoxville) isn't for the weak at heart. I have attended a dozen or more quarter mile non wing shows and many times watched them roll the car back on its wheels and make a quick repair and keep racing. Knoxville and from what I've seen over the years in Osky I can promise you that isn't an option. Personally the year that Osky had like 70 cars it wore us out (took forever to run the show) so the quality vs. quanity arguement is a non starter for me. I think true non wing fans will take quality any day. Most dirt track sprint car feature races only start 24 cars at most, so does having a 48 cars on hand really matter except to the back gate? Give me a quality field of 30+ or so cars and it will be just fine from a true fans' standpoint.

not saying they will just that they could in order to get Knox to pony up the 80k sanction fee for the nats it wouldnt be a wise move but could happen given the nature of the WRG

What happened to the summer classic/ 1200 lb nats? Also why a 1 nite only show in the spring? and the fair race used to be a WoO race also People can say what they want about how great the schedule is but 3 WoO races is a disgrace, and it is 3 Bill W not 7

Maybe you think they should have the WoO race there every weekend and have the regulars show up 3 or 7 times a year!! It would save me a bunch of money I'm tellin ya right now. If your bitchen about Knoxville, something tells me you just like to hear yourself bitch. Kudos to Cappy and everyone involved at the track for another good year with a bad economy.

for more than 10 years it seems like the woo drivers do not race as hard as they can and seem content to run around in line, it seems to me like they like the track slow and slick, makes for many boring shows, since 1980 or so the WOO seem more expensive and less of a show than normal knowville weekly show, I am sure most the posse that have great weekly show agree that the WOO whcih granted might be better but with their format of no invert and demanding twice or higher ticket price is not as much fun as weekly show. The WOO has been shooting themselves in the foot for many years the slow death they are experienceing is also draggin down all sprint a bit. Idoubt i make the trip to a woo show at knoxville unless I have other reason to be in Iowa the same weekend, use to travel for 2 day shows but know I am in the monority, if I had to choose between a woo sat night or regular sat at knoxville everything else is more importand before my van hits the road, like, how many good race tracks I drive by, what else to do at home or the weather, as I actually enjoy the weekly show as much and many times more, perhaps the invert is enough to know that more fun is likely the greatest show on dirt needs to look at their format

So with your theory of a "quality field of 30-40 cars or so is just fine from a true fans" standpoint" would make a great show huh? So the knoxville nationals with 100-140 cars is not a true fans standpoint of a good show? People come on here and complain all the time about the low car counts and the high ticket prices, the wedensday and thursday night of the nationals usually have 50-70 cars for the night of racing and this is some of the best racing action all year. I am guessing that k-ville is testing the waters on this non wing show and maybe will add more in the future if this works out for the fans and drivers.I for one actually enjoyed the races a few years back at OSKY when they had a D-A feature, that was a good show for $25.
