You not only lose some of your crowd, you lose a lot of your workers who are either tied into high school football or gone back to college.

All of our High School Football games are on Friday. I know there is a lot of HS Softball events in the Spring/Summer during race season and they are on Saturday.

I've heard one promoter in Minnesota say once the farmers are in the field they don't get as many people in the stands.

Bingo.  And fall high schools are all back in session as well and sports/activities for high school students take away parents and grandparents as well.

It's that top remark; won't be done because of college football. Not too many HS sports happening on Saturdays, especially in the fall in Iowa. This spring WOO show is a waste, they won't be racing Friday, and Saturday will be touch and go due to the amount of rain on Friday into Saturday morning.

Just some comparisons to some other tracks: (all with College & HS sports, Farmers with fields to work. Not trying to kick a dead horse. It just seems like the season ends so darn early in the dog days of summer

34 Raceway (Burlington) - Sept 28 (4 races after Nationals)

Lee County (Donnelson) - Oct 26th - (9 races after Nationals)

Eldora - Oct 19th (9 races after Nationals)

Williams Grove - Oct 6th (10 races after Nationals)

Port Royal - Oct 19th (11 races after Nationals)

Knoxville - Aug 24th (last sprint show) - A possible Motorcycle show & LM Nationals (Yawn) stretched out over the next 4 weeks - ending on Sept 21st.

The people in charge might figure that they made their big money for the year after the nationals and just be done.  I wonder how much they even make for a weekly show if anything.

Having races against Iowa & Iowa State Football games does not work. They used to have a race into the first week of September, and the crowds were historically not good. Knoxville ends when it does, for a reason. Stop the bleeding that is weekly shows for the fairboard. Central PA is a different animal in terms of fan support, it's much greater than central Iowa. The costs associated with running at tracks along the Missouri boarder (warmer falls than Knoxville) for mostly non sprint car shows is significantly less than a night of racing at Knoxville. Eldora is not competing against major college football and it's mostly late model races, and they 4 crown is a fraction of the crowd of the kings royal week.

Knoxville needs to start in May and end in August. The weather is trash/unprecdictable in Iowa for April, and college football takes over in September.

I wonder if Sunday programs in the fall might be better for race fans and racers?

Keep in mind that they have 8 races in 10 days for the Nationals. That probably gives them more races for the yearthan most tracks. They're probably pretty worn out after those 2 weeks.

I was told a few years ago by someone who works with a fair board member that Knoxville primarily makes money on the Nationals.  The weekly shows add little if any to the bottom line.

You are looking at it as a "DIE HARD" racing fan. Unfortunately times have changed, and all of us old time fans are falling by the wayside. The fans who would show up no matter what the weather, or what is racing just are not there anymore, at least for the weekly show. College football tends to take away from attendence all across the country at many tracks. Sometimes less is better......
