You are a bad ass iron butt, I've known some like you. I'm with you on the race admission prices and the crowds the more expensive races bring. I spent several years going to races at the Big E but only attended one KR. Can't hardly stand how these top tier racing fans behave, maybe HL will water them down like it will the racing. safe travels! BTW my longest drive to a track was 700 miles to Fairbury IL. massive 10 races in 11 day road trip, who needs motels..lol..

Thank you... I am an IBA (Iron Butt Associatio) member with my longest day being 1560 miles in 24 hours and actually continued another 300 miles to get home.  I

I've got a few trips in mind for next year

Too many variables. I planned a family vacation around Florida in February before to go to Volusia at night and the beach during the day.
Did the Eldora let's race two some SE Iowa one year.

As a kid my parents took us to Oklahoma State Fairgrounds in the spring for a WoO race when it was still snowing up in Iowa.

Tried a family trip to 81 speedway in Kansas once and was successful for an early season show. Tried it again with another two day show a few years later in March and both rained out. Total bust but had fun with the fam in Witchita.

Have had some nice trips to IRA shows at Beaver Dam and LaSalle.

Never was afraid to run to I-80 in Greenwood and get some Parker's Snokehouse, let the wife shop at the outlet mall, and go watch racing in the evening. That track will be missed.

Moberly, US 36 make two of the baddest high bank tracks in Missouri and have done that trip many times for different shows.

Some of the more crazy trips were 5hrs to Angell Park for IRA on a Sunday or 4.5hrs to Fairbury for WoO on a Wednesday and working the next day. Pretty short nights.

Just depends on my schedules with work and what's around if I can stay nearby if not. Some are day trips some are overnighters. Some are both. Hopefully the Mrs allows a few more new trips. Have done Husets and Chili Bowl as well and many more but would like to try Indiana or PA Speedweeks someday...

(2 hrs & change to Knoxville) - Go every week

(1 hr to 34 Raceway) Once or twice a year

(20 min. to Davenport Raceway) - Rarely ever go

(25 min to West Liberty Speedway) - Go rarely and only if it is Sprint cars.

(1.5 hr to Farley) Haven't been in years

(2 hrs to Spoon River) - Once a year for Tom Knowles (have missed the past 2-3 years

(8 hrs to Eldora) - went every year for a dozen years but missed the past 5 or 6 years

From West Fargo, I'd go to Cedar Lake, occassional Lincoln trip,  Husets, Grand Forks (three of the great WoO events with packed packed crowd--sadly so many people stay home when WoO Late Models are there, never have understood why cuz usually a great show). Never been to Winnipeg except for a couple drag racing events.  Never forget our high school senior trip, had never seen big time (fairly big time drag racing with 2 fuel dragsters) we were supposed to go with everyone to a shoe factory tour and a farm implement factory tour but me and a buddy got on a bus and went out to Keystone Dragways near Winnipeg.  We caught hell

Lawlessness + liberalism = HELL - NYC, Detroit, Chicago,
Seattle, LA Who the H runs those cities.

Depends on if its a multi-race trip, or if its on the way to someplace else I'm going.

My MINIMUM (for good racing) is 4-5 hrs. from Ct. to Pennsyltucky. I can see dirt track in NY state 2 hrs away, buts its not very good.

My first big race, I flew from Colorado to WG to see Sammy win the National Open. Flew from Colorado to California for Tulare Trophy Cup one time, & to Arizona twice for Cocopah winter 410s. Flew from Ct. to Tulsa for Chili Bowl once... oh yea, Co. to Florida one winter...also flew to Indy this fall for BC39

When my Mom was still alive, before I moved East, I would plan my migration from Colorado every summer to hit certain events, like Indiana Midget Week & Knoxville Nationals.

Now that Mom is gone, I'm gonna try to plan some multi race trips, Indiana Sprint and/ or Midget weeks, definitely Pa. , maybe Ohio or HL races in upstate NY....but I'm aging too (73) & driving long distances is getting harder

How about all those Aussies, Kiwis & Limeys?  I met a  couple who flies from Engand to Indy every year for USAC Sprint AND Midget Weeks! Smile

In 2006 drove from CT to Accord, NY. Then to Terre Haute for Silver Crown, Granite City for USAC sprint cars and Powri midgets, then Oskaloosa, then Knoxville, then hit Kokomo on the way back. Ten straight nights of dirt track racing.

In 2018 flew to CA for WoO at Calistoga and the Indycar finale at Sonoma

Thats the kind of thing I'm thinking about this summer

Ever go up to those SCONE races? I went once to Canaan in New Hampshire (now closed), cause a  buddy lived nearby, took him to his first sprint car race. Dusty track & black dust too...The races are now mostly in Vermont & the drive is as far as Pa. for me, so I go  to Pa. instead, much better racing!

Absolutely no help needed to stay up all night if I'm doing something,  but put me in  front of a TV and it's lights out in 15 minutes!!! Racing included.

3100 miles from Tacoma, WA. TO Volusia Fla. for Speedweek.  Motorhome round trip was a GAS...

Ascot was the greatest of all time..

West Capital wasn't half bad either..

Life is good...

I've been all over the country to watch sprint cars and Silver Crown races.

But those long 1K one-way trips are fewer and farther apart.

As I age, I just don't have the desire to drive that far anymore.

yea, getting harder for me too

You have to plan it so that you hit several races on the way & break those long distances into segments...
