I was only there once and it was 5 years ago, but I'd have to say Lucas Oil Speedway in Missouri is about to close as an ideal facility as anywhere.

Can you describe why you feel that way?

3/8 mile with 8-10 degree banking made from Black Clay Gumbo

Covered grandstand with aluminum seating with backs for 8,000 - 10,000

Plenty of restrooms for both men and women

Very good Sound System in stands and pit area

Fenced-in track with exit gate off back straight away and entrance off Turn 4

Musco lighting system and all underground utilities

Mid-way area for concessions and kid events area

Pits outside Turns 3-4 with concessions and restrooms, covered tech inspection area to include scales

The weekly show consists of Wing 360 and Wing 305 sprints, Sport Mods, street stocks (not a lot of 410s in my area)

Special events: 410 Wing and Non-Wing, 360 Wing, 305 Wing sprints, and Sport Mods, Tractor Pulls, Concerts

Elevator with ADA seating area mid-way up the grandstands

Concessions: Hamburgers, Hot Dogs, Corn Dogs, Burritos, Nachos, and Pop Corn, Soft Drinks, Beer, Water, Tea, Hot Coco, Coffee

Knoxville has real good concession stand and employees.  They seem to be happy to wait on you.

Yes, and there's variety and the lines keep moving at a decent pace

Do they have the same selection of food weekly as they do at the Nationals?

Cause the choices at Nationals are EXCELLENT! Smile

Paved, well laid out pit area. Great lights. Modern "pit shack" to sign in. Easy access/ exit from track. Overall just a very modern, clean facility. Its about a mile or two from town, making it "ideal" as the original question asked about desiigning a new place. Would certianly encourage anyone to take in a race there.

Knoxville would also be right up there with many of the same positives. Being right in town adds to the historical and awesome feel of the place but probably not how anyone would build something from scratch today.

One more place that is top notch is Texas Motor Speedway dirt. I was there for a national ASCS race 2 or 3 years ago and the racing surface wasn't that great but the facility is very well constructed, highlighted by the exit tunnel that funnels cars into the infliedl and then under the racetrack back to the pits!

Since many of these aren't realistic, I'll throw in my idea.  Have a perfect clone of Husets.  Build it within 5 miles of my house.  Have the races always over by 10:00.  I would also like seating for about 25,000 people, even if the most they would ever get is 10,000 people, so I don't ever feel too crowded.  Shuttles that will pick you up from your vehicle and take you to the front gate that has no lines.  From there I would want escalators to take me everywhere so I don't have to climb stairs.  Have food and drink vendors that will come right to my seat so I don't have to walk to get concessions.  Basically the only time I wan't to move is if I have to go to the bathroom.  Do something with the dirt so it doesn't leave the track, ideally it would be nice to not have to squint because I'm getting sprayed with dirt and  I didn't need a shower as soon as I got home from a race and didn't need to wash my car.  The dirt has to go somewhere though if it just stayed in the air real close to the track nobody would see anything but a huge dust storm, maybe a huge vacuum somewhere to suck the dirt away from fans?  Also maybe some kind of a system to make getting out of there easier at the end of the night?  That's how I'd design it if money were no object.
