I live in the middle of Stock Car and Modified country with frequent limited Sprint races and three 410 specials per season nearby. My son and I used to make the drive to Knoxville, Jackson and Husets but had to back off from that when his kids got older. He has branched out in his entertainment and helps my son-in-law's band load in and out when they play festivals. He moved further out in the country and got into mud runs which are 10x the party of any nearby dirt race. Anyways, the end result is that my travel partner has other interests. He will still come out for the local 410'specials but no travel anymore.
I like the IRA shows that come around here. They are usually in the $20-$25 range as opposed to rhe $40-$45 of a WoO show. It's easier to talk family and friends to come out for one of those shows as they don't have the sticker shock of a WoO show.
I won't travel to races alone anymore, I hit the 71 milestone today and watching from home saves money and doing all the driving and footing the whole bill. A solo trip to Knoxville for a weekly show is going to cost me a couple tanks of gas, a motel room, meals, tickets and twelve hours of windshield time. I'm looking at probably $250 for just me and can watch the same race from the recliner at no extra expense. I doubt there will be any of the High Limit races anywhere near me and I'm not likely to find a travel companion so for me it's not really a choice of either or scenario more than three times a year.
