I'd put Larson as the favorite, because he's Larson. But I'm not sure he's the overwhelming favorite. The 57 hasn't run as much and he seems a bit behind the 8 ball in time trials this year. Even at Eldora, he wasn't fast until the A Main.

I think Macedo has a good shot at it, kind of how Gravel was a favorite going into 2019 and it all fell together for him.

"he wasn't fast until the A Main......

That could easily be enough.... recall Schatz winning from the B Main?

I don't see him as an overwhelming favorite-----but, if vegas were to put odds on him, he would be the overwhelming favorite.  For me, he is a slight favorite over Sweet, Gravel, Schatz, and Macedo.  Vegas would give him much better odds.   They would base the decision on him being 6 for 7 last year at Knoxville, and having just bested 50+ cars at The King's Royal.

And to echo another response-----I think being in the A-main and being fast is enough when he has 50 laps.  One does not need a top 6 starting spot like in the old days.

Lol, I was wondering if we were going to get one this year.

Of course, we were always going to get a Brown thread. The delusion runs high on this board.

The Outlaws are going to have to up their game if they want to beat Brownie this year.

I don't believe this to be the case.  It has been announced that despite the uptick in cases, the Iowa State Fair will be mask-free, with no restrictions on people.  I can't imagine anything being put in place this close to the start of the Nats---especially since the state of Iowa does not even have enough representation on the board of health to meet until September.  Also, the governor has been pretty vocal about how the "show must go on"------so let's hope she sticks to her guns.

See everyone in 2 weeks!

I don't see Brown winning it without maybe the top 5 in woo points having problems. Unfortunately part of the luck seems to be the pill draw for qualifying. Have seen alot of times a top guy getting a high # and struggling. I would like to see the Nats adopt the outlaw rule on the 2 qualifying groups for Wed/Thur nights.

1.  Delusion?  Delusion is not asking if a guy who finished runner-up at an event 3 straight times has a chance of winning it.

2.  I only asked what everyone's thoughts were.  I never once implied that I thought Brownie was the new force to be reckoned with.  But thanks for the smart ass remarks.

Up until a couple weeks ago I would have said that Brown's window of opportunity to win had closed as the days of him consistently challenging for the win and running upfront seemed to had faded since his last 2nd place finish. Seeing him at Eldora with his uncle turning the wrenches it seemed like he had found some speed along with this win at Knoxville this past Saturday. I would not say he is one of the top favorites like some were saying back in 2012-2014.

I would put the favorites as Larson, Sweet, Gravel, and Macedo. Although Sweet and Gravel did not necessarily have the best finishes in June, it seems like they both come alive when the money is on the line. I would put Sheldon, Kerry Madsen, Logan, and maybe Brown in that second tier of favorites meaning I would not bet a lot of money on them but on the other hand would not be shocked if they had a shot.

I also believe Brown's window of opportunity closed a few years ago. And although he looks to have a better piece this year than the last 5, the names you and others mention as the favorites lead me to believe that window is likely still at the very best, slightly cracked open if not still closed.   I also agree with the list of favorites and 2nd tier guys----although I would throw the Don Don back in that list of tier 1 favories.  I also would not be shocked if one of those tier 2 drivers pulled off a win----and I would put Brian in that 2nd tier.

At least you can give me a coherent, direct answer to the question in my orignal post.  It was kind of a direct question but some seem to have taken it as I am declaring Brown the man to beat.  The social media world we live in I guess.  wink

There's absolutely no way an outdoor event gets cancelled in any way. Outdoors is where we're safest, vaccinated or not.

The delusion on this board regarding Brown at the Nationals is based on year after year of him kicking the crap out of the weekly Knoxville field and posters on here claiming every year that the Outlaws will have to step up their game if they somehow want to beat him at the Nationals. And year after year, such bluster on here regarding Brown at the Nationals fizzles and falls short.

Except that Brown travels & loses

DeWease stays home  & leaves us wondering

I was there the years Brown was 2nd, thought he was fast as hell. Since then, disappointing

I have heard not one single person make this claim this year on Hoseheads.  Can you elaborate on where you have been hearing this banter?

Maybe Lasoski was the missing link ?! Smile but Brian looked good with the Outlaws there earlier this year and had lots of practice laps before the season started. Happy for him. Would love to see the momentum carried into Nationals.

Lance pulled in to avoid getting lapped at the Nationals. No one that is paying attention wonders anymore.
