From the NATIONAL SPEEDSPORT NEWS:
Carson McCarl Gets Sprint Car Ride
During the 2013 World of Outlaw STP Sprint Car Series race in Elko, Minn., Carson McCarl and Rick Mastell met for the first time, and the duo bonded over racing.
It led to a trio of races to close out last season, ultimately putting them together in 2014 kicking off at the Ronald Laney Memorial at East Bay Raceway Park in Gibsonton, Fla.
“I am very excited to work with the Mastell Family in 2014,” said Carson McCarl, son of veteran racer Terry McCarl. “We hit it off at an Outlaw Race in Elko, Minn., last year, and raced a little, and decided to try to run together in 2014. He likes East Bay Raceway Park, so it is the perfect place for us to kick our season off.”
At the end of the 2013 season, the duo did race together, and had pretty good results as they picked up a couple of top-10 finishes, and were running inside the top-five until some mechanical issues knocked them out of contention.
“Our family really likes Carson and the McCarl family, and we are all hoping that everything goes well in Florida so we can run a lot of races this year,” Rick Mastell said. “We all enjoy this great sport, and two racing families coming together should be a great fit for everyone.”
Kicking their season off at the Ronald Laney Memorial, where the team will look to become the King of the 360′s. McCarl will be under the guidance of Mastell’s son, Stephen, acting as the crew chief, as well as Joe Kouba assisting on the set ups.
The hope in 2014 for the Mastell Brothers Trailer Service No. 27 is to compete often at the Knoxville Raceway as well as competing with the Upper Midwest Sprint Car Series (UMSS), both with their 360ci power-plant bolted in their machine.
“It is shaping up to be a really good year for our team, and I am hopeful that we are strong right out of the trailer at East Bay,” McCarl added. “I have to thank everyone who made this possible, and again, I am very excited to race a lot in 2014.”
