Over the years, I've been involved with some 'feeder' type divisions that have helped younger or relatively inexperienced drivers get involved in the sport, and these types of efforts absolutely have an effect of future drivers in the 'big' sprint divisions.

And some of those 'feeder' divisions you can certainly hear some grumbling from time to time from race fans that really are only interested in the 'big' sprint divisions.

But these 'feeder' type divisions really are essential, if you plan to see a new crop of 'big' sprint drivers in the years to come.

All that being said, the Upper Midwest Sprint Series just unveiled the 'Renegades Super Sprint' division along with its mission, rules and details, at http://umsprints.com/super-sprints.html

Again, I'm sure there will be some that will razz the concept, but again, it's more about its effect on the health of the sport down the road. I think it will be interesting to see how it propagates over time.

Here's more background info direct from the series that just came out today. Brings me back to the first time watching supermodified racing in the upper midwest back in the late 60's and early 70's:

Thank you to all who gave us their input/opinions since the introduction of the Renegades Racing Brand Super Sprint information. The positive, and especially the negative Facebook opinions, help the Renegades Racing Brand realize we have “struck a nerve” and that is positive. To be clear, this platform was not created to be a less expensive option than our other platforms, but it does fit within the brand's goal of "one car and engine for three platforms."

For those that have strong “traditional” forms of sprint car racing in your area, we could not be happier for you! But for the majority of the areas of the country with dying or no sprint car racing at all, which was the case in the Twin Cities area of Minnesota, the brand fills a niche. Our goal has, and will continue to be, to make the Renegades Racing Brand platforms the “go to” entry points into the sport and the Super Sprint is another step in that direction. Two motivations for the Super Sprint is to create a feeder platform starting at 13 years old to allow young men and women to grow into sprint car racing, and to get them into a full size race car no matter the direction the driver wishes to go. This will not happen overnight, but the brand is in it for the long haul! Again, thank you for your opinions.

We encourage everyone to click on this link for more information on the Super Sprint. Much detail on this link so best to do it on a computer if you can. It is the Power Point presented this week and is now on the UMSS website.

Thank you!

We hope this platform, like our other two platforms that are "outside the box," will take off like our traditional and wing programs. Local sprint car racing in the Twin Cities area of Minnesota had always struggled untill we took a chance with different engine platforms and other sustainable ideas. It works for the average person with a job, family and a mortgage and we could not be happier for sprint car teams, fans and tracks in our area.

We will continue working hard and who knows, maybe this will be a more "main stream" ans acceptable form of sprint car racing some day.
