I am visiting Volusia for the first time tonight. I was wondering why is this place so damn fast.  Does anyone know because it just looks like a regular track.

Im trying to figure out why the cars are so fast here compared to other 1/2 mile tracks. I mean I don't see anything that they do to the track that would make it faster.

I would have to agree that 12.94 seconds (track record) is pretty damn fast for a 410 on a 1/2 mile!!

Not all 1/2 miles are built alike.   There are a ton of factors.  Corner radius, banking, overall shape (paperclip, oval, D shaped)  and finally, probalby the biggest difference is how was the lenght of the track measured.

It might be fast but I have been told it would fit inside some half miles.

In the racing groove google earth shows it to be .44 mile, which makes the 'pole' length a bit smaller, .41 mile.

Then there are "1/2 miles" that aren't actually 1/2 miles like Eldora and Volusia. Still fast tracks though, undoubtedly faster than some real 1/2 miles.

Sounds like about the same size as Devils Bowl, but probably much better racing...LoL

is this the 1st time the Woo have raced two weekends in Volusia?  Correct this distant Canadian as needed but I beleive the 1st week is part of the State wide speedweek phenominon overflowing from Daytona. But i see a 2nd pair of nights in March. This March date is new correct, looking for some dry and sunny evenings that they dont get in Californai in March I  suspect. But my main question was wil these teams be able to park their rigs in Volusi for 3 weeks instead of haul them home?

Even though I may not know you, I
care what most of you think!

I'm not so sure this is what he was asking. Nice explanation of an oval track though.

It's not a half mile. Just a joke gimmick of a measurement, no one ever runs the half mile line. With that said, it's definitely very fast and on the right, cool night you can see drivers barely keeping it straight getting into turns.
