I know some of you will think i am a prude or need to get a life but i think two things I have seen recently dont belong at the trak. For awhile know at Port every time the one wrecker goes down by the stands the obe guy on the back lifts his shirt and the fans cheer how about the next time everybody BOO or Port just tell him to stop.

AT Baps on Sunday their was a young guy a cant say man wearing a shirt with the word F--- IN BOLD LETTERS SITTING RIGHT NEAR THE FLAGSTAND with plenty of young children around I think Todd should have asked him to leave.

Agree to both. It's embarrassing to the track and even more so to the guy doing it. He, or the tow truck must go.  Could you imagine if FloRacing caught it.

i agree...but also have learned to not expect anything...especially after the last year.  my issue with the guy at port is making it about him and in front of a wrecked race car and at times a driver.  i can't imagine the driver is in the mood to have a guy acting like that in those situations.

i thought you were going to reference the 100+ posts between 2 threads about wayne johnson vs reutzel.  this is going to sound crazy...but sprint car racing has to be better than that.  nascar can get away with creating situations where people get mad at each other on and off the track.  people will die in sprint cars if they let things carry over onto the race track.

part of the draw to central pa racing 3 years ago was there seemed to be respect among drivers.  the dewease finish with a broken wing at the grove where hodnett and dietrich raced him hard...but stayed off of him had me thinking these guys respected their equipment and sport.  they'll get mad at other...that's part of racing.  i just don't want to see guys running into each other on the race track.

Tow truck guy at Port? It a little like the comedic stylings of Andrew Dice Clay for me. The first time I listened to it, I thought it was funny, but granted I was like 11 at the time. The second time I listened to it, I thought, is this all there is? The same thing over and over? The third time all i could think was, nope, this guy is terrible. This stuff sucks.

Same thing here. First time, I smirked. After that its just become eyeroll inducing. Eat a little better, hit the weights a bit, and please keep your shirt on.

As far as vulgar words on a t shirt? To each his/her own but I couldn't give a shit. I wouldn't wear anything like that, but if you want to... go ahead. You'll look a little low rent, but hey, knock yourself out.

I agree completely  however there are a few classless folks egging them on. I saw the kid with the shirt and really thought inappropriate and you want to attract more younger crowd.  Unfortunately that is some of what you get from that age group at times. You cannot tell them to leave they will say free speech and my right lol. But it's like no shirt or shoes no entry or service. The track has a right. However based on the language I heard around BAPS this past weekend from quite a few gentleman ( used loosely) the shirt is less offensive than what kids her from grownups mouths. My daughter had to endure loud mouth drunks and f bombs all night aimed at drivers that could not hear them nor care less. Then sit two rows behind a man who truly needed to wear a belt. Asses hanging out halfway is another thing that offends and kids should not have to see. No matter where you sit there will always be something. Shame but dirt tracks attract this type of behavior for some reason. It is what it is.

Todd doesn't own BAPS anymore. That said, dirt tracks have always been a place where people kinda let loose. You have a point but I grew up going to these places every weekend and I turned out somewhat ok. Kids see a lot worse on television. You can't really hide them from the occasional bad word or a fat guy lifting his shirt which I agree, is pretty stupid. I don't really see these issues as doing a great deal of harm to our youth but as far as the tow truck goes, I do agree it's not exactly a professional look for Port Royal. If I were in charge, I'd tell him to stop doing it because it's just trashy as hell.

I do think some people can be a little more careful with their language. Our group isn't exactly preachers and our language is anything but clean but at the same time, we keep it amongst ourselves. No need to be loud and obnoxious about it. The loose atmosphere at dirt tracks is part of what makes them great but if someone around me is loudly using foul language around kids, they're gonna hear about it from me. I've told several loudmouth assholes to shut up in those circumstances.

Pit grandstands are totally different.  When I need to get off my feet that is where I like to sit.  The whole crowd turns over between races as they come to watch their cars and drivers watch the track change.  No drunks, can barely hear the announcer and I can get up and walk the pits or run down and watch/take photos from the infield.  I never sit with fans in the stands.  Too crazy up there for my taste.

I agree and as a father who has been taking his child to the track since they were a year old, you cannot really hide or get angry when you hear some profanity or see some people acting stupid. None of it really offends or bothers me when I hear or see some of the things that people say or do at the track, but I do shake my head and wonder what goes through some people's heads to make some of the decisions they make. The loud and obnoxiousness is the only part that gets annoying at times as I do not really need to hear anyone else's dumb conversation, we have our own going on among our group.  Kids do get exposed to this behavior not only seeing it on television but just in everyday life it seems now. Whenever I see someone acting stupid I usually point it out to my son and tell him to never ever let me catch him acting like that as long as I live.

Agreed, the racers are there to race, I can afford the pit pass. Obviously some tracks are worse than others for the loud drunks but it's not as bad as 20-30 years ago. JMO

I also would like to see the F.Q.I. (fan quality index) improve across the board at all dirt tracks.

20-30 years ago I was right there with them howling at the moon all night in the campground so I wont use the past as an example.  wink

Brings back a lot of memories taking photos all while my mouth watered thinking about popping that first beer open.  A lot of nights I couldn't have my fist beer until after victory lane pics.  That was between 11 and midnight a lot of times if there were a lot of red flags.  The son and his buddies would have the fire going and I would join them until the sun poked over the tree tops.  It got pretty crazy at times.  Too old for that now, too many meds that do not allow washing down with beers.

An S would have made all the difference in the world.  Need more classes, seven or nine like the tracks up by me.  Two kinds of Late Models, winged and non-wing limited Sprints, Super Stocks, Street Stocks, Pure Stocks, Hornets and two classes of Modifieds, are we up to nine yet?  LOL

The idiot with the cuss word on his shirt needed to get an invitation to change his shirt or leave the track. No doubt. Track staff should have approached the moron. If I'm there with my young son I'm talking to the track staff immediately. If they don't approach him I will and I won't be as friendly.

I agree that it was an inappropriate shirt for that venue, or perhaps any venue. However, you are making a big assumtion that any kid or your specific kid at dirt track race reads or pays attention to any writing on a tee shir unless it is pointed out by an adult. The kids are primarily bombarded by the entire atmosphere of lights, noise, dust, crownd, cars, announcers, family, friends, etc to even notice "bad" words on a tee shirt.

If they do notice, that is aperfect time for the "don't be that guy" conversation and move on. Kids will hear all kinds of words from peers and adults that are frowned upom language and it is up to the parents and family to put the values that they exhibit instilled into those children.

As for the track, it is certainly a good idea to discourage those types of displays, but it is a form of free speech and it needs to be protected. Sorry, if you don't agree on the free speech part, I'm not trying to start a political argument, so please do not respond to that part of my comment.

Just contrasting the rock festival and racing crowds in my daydreams.  When my son-in-law opens the show he tells the crowd "lets get this "f-ing" party started and obscene sayings on t-shirts are considered a badge of honor.  Big difference between a metal crowd and racing fans.  LOL
