well when people talk about larson and compare him to the greats, they metion AJ, mario andretti, jeff gordon, tony stewart.
i never hear hear him compared to sammy, because sammy, as good as he is, hasn't done half the stuff those other guys did. and at a quarter of his age larson has accomplished more than sammy ever will.
sammy is a great competitor and builder and chassis tuner, but at this point in his carrer larson has done more and gone further than sammy at the same point. you can't take a guy who is 60 years old and at the end of his carrer and and a guy who is 22 and at the beginning of his carrer and say that just because the new guy doesn't have as many sprint car wins he isn't already outpacing the older guy.
larson has done more in more types of racing than sammy ever thought of. and sammy and kevin were both given chances in other series.
larson hasn't skipped a beat as he moved up through the ranks. he has performed well even as he has moved up through nascar.
he was the series champ and rookie of the year in his first ever stock car season in K&N east.
he was the rookie of the year in nationwide
he was the rookie of the year in sprint cup.
none of those were given to him, he had to drive the cars and get the results.
the wins in sprint cup will come.
|
And until he actually wins those wins and hoists those trophies it's nothing more than hot air. We all can say the kid is going to be this good, but until he IS THAT GOOD he isn't. We will have to wait and see.

Over 300 wins in a top series and these rookie joiner put him out of his league? Come on most the time rookie of the year means you were the only rookie that showed up every race

you talk about sprint cars. sammy hasn't even been in some of the leages larson has. you are going to judge based only on one type of racing?
in the same point in their carrers larson has leaped over anything sammy did.
i give sammy credit for what he has done. but what he has done has been in basically one discipline. he hasn't excelled outside of that one thing.
larson has done what AJ, mario, parnelli, and bobby under did. they showed they were capable of excelling in many different and diverse types of cars and formats.
those 300 winged sprint car wins are great. not taking it away from sammy.

Who is it that's comparing him to aj and Mario besides you? I mean come on maybe he will win more than they did but at least wait til he wins a friclking race in a top series to even think about it

Talk to us about big wins in a any series/event and then you might have a debate. IE Kings Royal, Knoxville Nationals, Kings Royals, Chilli Bowl wins, championships, and so on. Until then it's nothing more than hot air

big wins and championships?
you mean wins like the belleville nationals, the four crown nationals, nationwide series/
championships like the king of california or K&N east?
like i said sammy has done great in winged sprint cars over a 45 year period. but he is still right where he was at 45 years ago.
larson has moved past that in 5 years.
when was sammy ever up for the best performing driver in the world award? twice in a row?
to indy and beyond!!

I hate to even comment on this thread....as I am a fan of both.
I don't think it is a jealousy thing, as Sammy has had his day in the sun.
Sammy is one of the best there ever was.....period. Kyle is one of the best talents we have ever seen....period There should be no debate on either of these two statements. I think Sammy was mad and that is his prerogative, as the Chili bowl is very demanding and can have a lot of contact. Kyle on the other hand spouted off to Sam about him getting into another driver(teamate) so i'm not sure if that is cool or not, I'm sure Tanner can defend himself if he even felt he needed to....Kyle spun twice and was probably mad at himself and really wanted to beat the Swindells and came up short, I would be too. I mean thats all people talk about is Sammy and Kevin at the chili Bowl, I'm sure Kyle wanted to shut everyone up.
The older I get, the faster I used to be.

i agree sammy is one of the best winged sprint car drivers there has ever been. i agree in that catagory he dwarfs larson. but look how much time he has on larson and how much sammy has consentrated on winged sprint cars.
i am trying to point out that when it comes to being in a league like some have said, there are very few people in the league that larson finds himslf in.
that league is of drivers who have raced in and shown proficiency in many types of cars and venues. not comparing larson to the accomplishments of drivers like AJ, mario, parnelli, bobby unser or tony stewart, but larson is in the same league or catagory just by his ability to have performed well in winged and non winged sprint cars, midgets, champ dirt cars, K&N stock cars, nationwide stock cars, sprint cup cars and his limited sports car efforts and on both dirt and pavement.
you can't even place sammy in that league or catagory. heck you can't place very many drivers at all in that catagory.
larson hasn't stayed in one type of car or series to rack up a big win record in any of them but when was the last time someone won over 60 races in two years in seven different types of car?
to indy and beyond!!

Ummmm...read my trhead again...cause I was only refering to the Chili bowl stuff from last week.
If you wanna go there fine, not gonna argue, too much, but...
Sammy has been in a lot of different racecars in his career, maybe not with the same success as Kyle but none the less. When Sammy tried to do other things he didbt have the same claas as equipment as Kyle has, it was a different time back then....Put Kyle in a sub par car of any kind and u will see.....he has been in very good, if not the best equipment the last 2-3 years.
Heres the deal there is huge pressure o Kyle to win all the time because of his "talent" but thier are alot of guys out there that wont get the chances/breaks or oppurtunitys Kyle has...simply put.....END
The older I get, the faster I used to be.

As to who's better, its comparing aples to oranges. Kyle has potential to be one of the greatest ever, in a wider variety of racing, but he can't compare in Sammy's specialty. Kind of like Don Garlits & Mickey Thompson. Garlits record in drag racing far outshines Mickey's. but Mickey did EVERYTHING...
So who was better???

You can not compare what larson has done to "AJ, mario, parnelli, and bobby" for two very good reason. Those boy's did it without a cage in a much more dangerous era and for a much longer time.
Half the lies they tell about me aren't true.

And you apparently aren't smart enough to get Mr. Buzz's point, that he has accomplished much more than Swindell has already. Big deal that he hasn't won a Cup event yet? That's not the point. How many Cup starts does Sammy have? top fives in Cup? top tens in Cup or Nationwide? And it's not exactly like Larson is running for one of the top Cup teams either...

I'm getting the point he's making? So Richard Petty Darrell Waltrip Cale bobby john force Scott bloomquist to name s few arnt in his league? They didn't do much oor of there series? Sammys 300 plus wins and on top of his game for 40 years in WoO is something larson cant be compared to yet After he wins a lot then let's talj

Although I wasnt in attendance last night,,,I have been to every ChiliBowl for the past 6-7 years.
My take is this.......Sammy is a great driver, and I will give him props for all that he has accomplished,,,
HOWEVER, it seems to me that he just expects other drivers to move over for him just because he is
Sammy Swindell...
He wants to get in there and race hard, bumping his way to the front. He can dish it out, but he cant take it.
As I said....that's my opinion and I'm sure not everyone is gonna agree.
|
Sounds like Earnhardt.

they're both incredible drivers...what is the pissing contest over?
everyone knows how competitive sammy is...he's been away from racing and been focusing on the chili bowl for the past 5 months, and everyones surprised he's taking no prisoners when trying to race to the front?
i got my own opinion about fellow drivers like larson and stenhouse trashing sam to their 100K+ followers on twitter

Yes Larson has a very long way to go, before he can be compared to AJ, Mario, Parnelli and bobby........ Sammy is Sammy used to not like him back in the day, but now that his days are coming to an end along with Kinser and Wolfgangs who ended a while back..... I was fortunate enough to see a lot of great racing when those 3 were in their prime.

Actually, if you followed the "twitter war", it was more Kevin stirring the pot than anything else. He came to his father's defense, as any good son would. But he just wouldn't let it die. To the point where in one twit he said "These young driver's don't know about respect. When I started, I knew Steve Kinser would end me." (Kevin Swindell is 25 years old)
Kyle said what he said on twitter, but he also didn't back down from Sammy in person. He flat told him "Stop running into my teammates." There's one video where you can hear him say that and also hear Keith Kunz roar at Sammy "You ain't knocking nobody out!"
Kevin's lack of "racing luck" when it comes to quality rides etc... is less about luck and more about how Kevin carries himself personally. He's a good driver and what he did at the Chili Bowl is incredible. I have a ton of respect for his dad and I do respect Kevin.
