At the link below, please find an interview I did with Sammy Swindell in his shop earlier this week talking about the past, present, future, retirement, and all points in between.

I want to applaud Ben for an outstanding job with this interview. You asked all the right questions. I echo what you said that you can't imagine going to a big sprint car race and not see the famous 1 competing. I am holding out hope that after some rest he will feel up to racing the Knoxville Nationals next year.

Thanks for the kind words. It was an honor to do the interview, and I'm just glad that others are enjoying here his thoughts the same that I did.

Great interview. Sammy looks and sounds content with his decision. That's too bad. I sure would've liked to see him one more time.

Great interview. Definitely worth the copy and paste. Even the Sammy haters should give it a watch.

This is a great interview and it's great to hear Sammy speak so clearly. I am definitely on record as not being a fan of his as far as the type of person he could be at the track but one of the best drivers ever he certainly is. It is interesting to hear him say that all these years it's been "all about him". It takes a lot to admit something like that so I commend him for saying it. I think you will see him smiling a lot more in the coming years as he spends his time with his wife, son, grandchild, and whoever else he choses to spend his time with. I for one look forward to seeing Sammy smile more. I wish him nothing but happiness moving forward.

What an amazing interview with my all time favorite driver. When he said "my time has past" that really got to me. The guy is one of the best ever and still had the talent, albeit a bit diminished with age and such. Not gonna be the same going to WoO shows at the Grove or Port and not seeing the #1 of Sammy Swindell on the track. Just not the same.

Yo' Chris, I think somebody hacked into your account and he's a Sammy fan, no it wasn't me!
Pretty much the Sammy I knew all along away from the track, special person.....

I loved how he talked about the calmness and peace that came over him when he pulled into the pits during the race at Knoxville. That had to be one heck of a feeling.

Great interview.... not such an ogre, huh?
No doubt guys get more aggressive strapped into a sprint car surrounded by 23 other competitive risk takers....
He was just good at it

I wish Sammy would have announced this at the driver intro before Saturdays A. I bet he would have got a 5 minute standing ovation...
