I know that in the past, since WoO keeps seperate driver and owner point standings, there have actually been two checks issued.  For instance, if a driver/owner combo stayed intact for the entire year and finished at the top of both driver and owner standings, and the total championship payout was $150,000, then the owner received a check for $75,000 and the driver received a check for $75,000.

Also--There ARE some drivers now receiving a set weekly salary plus a percentage of the car's winnings.  There are also crew chiefs with the same arrangement.  There are also now some GUARANTEED contracts in place as well, so that if a driver or crew cheif is let go during the year, they'll still receive their weekly salary (or at least a portion of it) for the rest of the season, even if they drive (or work on) another car.

Thanks.  Nice to have some facts.

Thanks for a knowledgeable reply.I have read where it takes close to $20 million to run a average cup team and a good Woo sprint team can run many 100 thousand so the math tells you that sponsers are the key as the prize money would not support the operation. The drivers deserve everything they get and not many are getting rich but are doing what they love which is priceless. Most owners are lucky to break even and the way they are able to continue is most are successfull in another venue. The $25/$50 spent on tickets is cheap. We had a guy in our town who made a million $ racing the only problem was he started with 2.The other factor is several of the top teams get special deals where as the weekly racer usually has to pay for most everything.

I am in no way knowledgable, but a brief conversation with a driver on the tour and some easy math, said he had a million dollar a year budget from his wealthy owner. I know others do it on much less.
