thats a great idea buzz I would do some traveling to watch those shows. Might even get chris to run a few of those

Right now we already have the Southwest USAC series VS. the West Coast USAC group. The thing is, any of the cars with any series can run with the URA.

The URA is not a 410 series. It's a wide open, open comp series....http://www.dirtentertainment.com/uploads/3/0/6/6/3066008/ura_info_sheet.pdf

With mainly 410s running it. A few 360s but all the top cars are 410s are they not? Would be willing to bet every race will be won by a 410 too. Has anyone run anything bigger than a 410 yet?

Bigger is not always better and if it can happen at Canyon, it can happen at OSS or Victorville.
PEORIA, AZ – OCTOBER 28, 2012… Yuma, Arizona’s Mike Martin made USAC history last Saturday night by winning the “ParkerStore Hall of Fame Classic” with a 360-cubic inch powered machine. Leading all 30-laps, the “Magic Man” claimed the $5,000 victory at Canyon Speedway Park in front of a large crowd. “The Madman” Robert Ballou, “The Demon” Damion Gardner, Hunter Schuerenberg, and Jon Stanbrough rounded out the top five drivers.

DidN't say it couldn't happen, just willing to bet it wouldn't. Would be nice if they could come up with a tire equalizer. With the midgets in USRC, when the VWs were dominating they had to run narrower tires to try and take away some of the advantage. Would be interesting to see Rutherford bring his VRA car to OSS. Just don't see a 360 beating Cardey, Gardner, Faas or Spencer if he shows up. Now if you put one of those drivers in a top 360 and started up front? That's a possibility.

"DidN't say it couldn't happen, just willing to bet it wouldn't."
That would be a bad bet, because in Sprint car racing anything that can happen will happen.

Just curious if someone could find an open weekend for an open non sanctioned show. I am a distant onlooker but it just seems that more tracks just means more politics. Unfortunately the days of just USRC for midgets and CRA for sprints can't be ressurected.
|
Agreed We should be running Sprint Cars/Midgets under one set off rules like yesteryear of CRA/USRC
I think Gardner/Faas ran one or two open shows @ the Vic a couple of years ago U might ask them how it worked out
A 360 aluminum eng could win @ OSS/Vic , as you would not give up forward bite vs a alum. 410 , even a 360 (or less) alum combo might have some advantages on a short track depending on conditions
Even lightning can strike as Martin ? won a USAC national event @ Canyon with a pig iron 360 last year IIRC
As you stated with the VW Midget running under a different rule back in the day , a 360 pig iron block car generally needs help in the chassis/tire dept most of the time to be competitive with a aluminum block car

Don't need no 360 or 410 at OSS . I would like to see one of those high revving 550 /600 horsepower 305s that ive been reading about take them on. I believe the cost is right and if they are competitive that may mean more cars . Don't think there is a weight limit. That may be just enough assistance on a bull ring. Ive heard stories of over powering a track but i have not seen it to often. P.S. Kenny you better take hold of that Martin win because that's all your gonna get.
We need more sprint car racing at our home track.

I'm not an engine guy by any means but would it not be possible to home build a 427 or 454 with enough horsepower to compete with a professionally built 410?
In this article a guy built a 700HP 454 for $2500

The # of a Big Block Chebbie will kill forward bite , I give U a A for thinking outside the box LOLLL !!!! , here is another way to approach it
U can build a all aluminum LS 427 750+ HP Chebbie with EFI for about 12K outta the Chebbie Perf Catolog
Or U could take a 376 LS outta a junkyard & make 650+ HP for about 6k
Or U could build a modular 5.4 OHC Ford fairly reasonable for a Ford LOLLL !!!!
Or the 5.7 Hemi Mopar is another possibility
Ford vs Chebbie vs Mopar is a proven promotional tool !
The URA rules as I read em would allow any of these

I wasn't driving Randy and it wasn't just AZ news, it was national news. I mean, look who he beat running with a lot less inches, HP and $ invested in the engine and that's my point and it always has been! Showing it can be done gets people like Roy thinking the way some of us have been thinking for some time now and that's a good thing.
. It can and will happen Randy if the URA keeps moving in the direction it is now. Again, you had better keep a eye on your Vet, that SL engine could be making a trip to OSS without the car..LOL

305s could put on a good show at OSS if the caliber of drivers was good. Saw plenty of exciting USAC National sprint races back in 1977 and they weren't running 410s back then. It's the cars and the drivers that make the show. Heck watched a 6 cylinder sprint race at the OKC Fairgrounds that was as entertaining as anything at the PAS. You 410 only guys need to get over yourselves, racings racing, no matter what you're running.

Now that's like telling me to give up on the prom queen and go for her homely friend. Not Gonna Happen . Once a 410 fan it's hard to change.

"The # of a Big Block Chebbie will kill forward bite"
Wasn't a big block the norm before the sanctioning bodies went to 410's. It was that way back east anyways. If I'm not mistaken western PA still has no cubic inch limit.

I would like to offer some honest advice: Something must be done to protect the track photographers in the corners of the infield. I saw the first race. There was several close calls. It is simply impossible to outrun a sprint car. There is a quick and low-cost fix for protection. I saw extra hay bails in the pits before the race. I strongly encourage the use of these hay bails to build bunkers for the photographers in the turns. It would be a small but very welcomed safety feature that I'm sure will be appreciated by the track photographers.
