Anyone know if Nance built any 100" sprint frames with cross torsion rear and coil over front? Frame is an extremely nice piece with beautiful tig welds-definitely a factory frame. Front bumper plugs directly into the ends of the main rails in front. No provisions for front bars and no crossmember for a cross spring. Can find no numbers or name anywhere on it.

The Dewell car in the early 80's was all coil over from what I know of. But I think that car was destroyed.
Ken Jenkins might know on facebook

rusty, nance built a coil front ect probably 86 in frame ect, for larry woodard but i would think it would have the serial # on the cross tube at top of motor plate... but t here were probable another . the coil over noted in another comment was built in tthe 1975 to 79 time frame. it was an 100 inch frame... nance built several variaitions different from regular production, some of which were built to customer request such as pikes peak hill climb cars ...

Correct. We did build a front coil car that Larry Dewell drove. I want to say maybe 1980-81. We did build a few, but not very many.
I would be curios to know the numbers on the crossbar by the rear motor plate.

I have not found any numbers or a name any where on the car. It came from the OKC area. It had a small wing, just as wide as the frame. Looks like the frame was red, but now is black. Body panels are white painted aluminum. Frame was pinstriped, and shock mounts, shocks, and birdcages were chromed. Rear axle is wide five and front axle is knock off. On the cowl where the drivers name would be is the name Ann, in big letters, but under the top layer of paint. It originally had the number 1, but has another 1 was added to make an 11. All the welds are aircraft quality tig, and alot of the hardware is aircraft, such as the locknuts. It may have originally been a 6 cylinder car, but was last run as a v8. The frame rails on the left side run parallel from the motor plate to the front, with a diagonal brace between them in the motor area. The top rail on the right side curves down in front of the motor plate, then runs parallel to the bottom rail for about 30", then curves back up to match the top rail on the left side. The top rail is one piece, with smooth bends and beautiful welds. The front shock mounts have additional braces to the top rails, which would indicate this was a coil over front car from the beginning. If there is any modifications to the frame, they were done in the shop because of the quality of welds and the smooth bends. There are big O'Reilly Motorsports decals on the outside of both spill plates of the wing. Maybe it ran in a series in the OKC area. There is a crossmember between the bottom rail about at the front edge of the seat. From the middle of this crossmember, there is a tube brace that runs back diagionally to the bottom rail, to about 10" in front of the torsion tubes. There is one of these diagonal braces for each side.

The Nance car that your talking about was owned by Bietlers in Liberal. It was a yellow 12N and had coil-overs on the front and rear. Larry Dewell did drive it all most of time. My brother Mike drove it one time at 81 Speedway and it was very challenging car to drive. I was with my brother Mike that night and I remember we were on the back side of pits by the old water towers and he was trying to figure out to set it up for his driving style but if I remember right it was long night and he struggled with the car.
It did have a different looking hood not like the traditional Nance hoods that were used in 1980. The hood had V-shape to the front of it.
I have a picture of the car at 81 Speedwat coming out of turn 4 with three out of four wheels off the ground. The picture I have of the car has no wings on it.
I pretty sure Ken Jenkins was involved with development of that car.
If I find the picture I will post it.

Tony is correct. It was a challenging car to set up. My dad was a master at building and setting up race cars.
The race I think Tony is talking about at 81 Dewell led the entire race until dale Reed did a Bonzai slide job and spun him out in turn 4 coming for the checker.
That is the same car that Dewell won at Hutch with and the 5 state fair. It wasnt the 112 car though.
I have some cool pictures and will try to find them. Jenkins worked on the car. Jenkins handled the sales for us, he had very little input if any on the deign of our cars. I believe that mostly came after we had parted ways.

I know that was the First Coil over car we ever built. Not 100% sure it was the last. Like Tony said, it was a challenging car to set up. I just don't remember any other front and rear coil cars we ever built. I know my dad spent a ton of time working out spring rates fo make that car work. I think he had it down pretty good.

Yes it has been a very long time. How is Ron and your dad doing? Seems like forever. There is a guy I believe in Okla that has a 1980 100" car listed on Hoseheads in the classified. Looked like most of the car is there including the original fiberglass hood.

Alan. I went back and looked at the ad again. It is a guy up in Emporia that is selling the car. He says it is late 70's. Looking at the pics, he is correct. He didn't list the numbers on the frame though. He wants $3,500.00 for everything.

Alan sorry about miss spelling your last name, I wasn't sure on the spelling but knew your dad lived in Liberal.
I'm like everyone else it's been 30 years ago. I didn't realize it was built in the winter of '78. I thought it was built in '80. I'm pretty sure it was all coil over car but I could be wrong. If I remember correctly Mike drove your dad's Edmunds style car in late '78 when him and Norman Gumm split up. Is that correct? I think I remember Mike driving your dad's car at Tulsa on the big 1/2 mile and maybe at Enid in September or October and he ran pretty good with it.
It was wierd at Enid I helped Norman with the car after Mike and Norman split up and I was thinking Mike was driving the 112. I think Dee Zelmer was driving Norman's car that night
I have a call into Mike to see if he can give us a little more insight on the car.
I sure he'll remember the car because it was different.
If he can offer any info on the car I will post back on the site.
Byron thanks for clearing up on who to give credit to on the design of that car.
I just remember Ken talking to Mike about the car and the coil overs.

tony, jenkins had no input on the design of the coilover 12n, it was built prior to him working for nance speed equipment. larry dewell drove the car primarally in 1980. it was sold to someone in oklahoma. the collover car hooked up on dry tracks really well.as frame noted in the first post i wouldn't know if it is the old 12n without seeing it. kenny jenkins and my-self maintained the 12 n

mr nance, if ya remember the shop didn't start s/n's on frames untill late 79 or early 1980, so it's fruitless to look for s/n's on frames fabricated before that time...

This frame may be pre 80's. It has a slider torque tube instead of an in/out or shifter rear end. Also, it has individual rear brakes instead of an inboard brake. The calipers are airhearts, with a single piston on the LF and dual two piston calipers on the rear.
Bushwacker, are you going to be at 81 this weekend?? I am planning to be there Saturday with the number 34 flathead rail. I will have pictures with me. I have tried to post them but get an error message that they are too big to post.
