all we need is less rr tire
|
I would suggest harder tires on both sides. The LR does as much for forward bite as the RR. Plus you might be able to get more than 1 night out of them which would help the little guys a bunch. Tires are our biggest nightly expense. But you can't scrimp if you want to have any chance to compete, especially in the midwest where there's usually 50-60 cars at an ASCS event. The local guy who works for a living could really use that $225 savings a night.
Dead horse, I know!

I'm always baffled when I read this directly from the ASCS rule book, especially the first sentence:
"Spec Heads: Brodix heads part # 27-211, #27223, and #27-222 with ASCS stamp may not have any performance-enhancing alterations in any way. Intake opening no larger than original opening, the only exception being, inlet opening may be ground or polished 3/4 inches or no further into port than the closest edge of the closest letter of the ASCS logo. During this polishing the left side of the letter "A" is sometimes inadvertently brushed with polish wheel. This is permissible as long as letter is still intact. During polishing of inlet port sometimes polish marks may go slightly further than the 3/4 inch. Intake port at no time may exceed 215 cubic centimeters.
Intake port polishing will be allowed no more than 1 1/2 inches below the bottom of the original seat ring on the back side of the bowl area and no more than 1 inch on the short side. Polishing will be allowed in the combustion chamber area to avoid hot spot chaffing. Polishing will be allowed in exhaust ports as long as the original "ASCS" logo is not affected or port shape is not altered substantially.
Absolutely no intake or exhaust port relocation, raising, enlargement or reshaping of any type. Valve angle and placement may not be altered in any way on the ASCS spec head or on any other head. ASCS checking fixtures to check the above specifications and dimensions will be used by sanctioned ASCS tracks."
Then I read about heads specially prepped by Roush-Yates, or Weld-Tech, or Ron's Porting, or any other big name engine builder. I can do the polishing stated above in my garage at home. What are all these guys doing that anyone with a die grinder, some polishing tools and the ability to read the rules can't and how can anything but polishing be legal??
Just curious.

Glad to see more people voicing the concern. I knew this was going to happen sooner or later and now it will carry over to the 305 class which we dont want to destroy a good thing. I enjoy seeing Jason race but only a few can compete with that budget. How many can afford to spend that much $$$ on Roush Yates engines. Look at the car counts. ASCS bring in and change the rules, the money spent on these cars is getting way out of hand and lowering your car counts.

Kevin Eckert usually has good inside info--his most recent column "Tampa Terror" on his web site www.sprintcarstats.com indicates, to me, that Jason Johnson has been using an Ott Chevy engine so far this year in his ASCS races.

I'm no ASCS fan. Heck I don't even like all the WoO rules. An ASCS engine still selling for 40k is a big sign that all these great cost saving rules everyone loves to talk about only complicates and waters everything down. If making things affordable was the answer there would be thousands of people at your local go cart track instead of a couple hundred. One thing the ASCS folks understand though is that there are a bunch of fans that aint gonna come and buy a ticket if there is nothin but a bunch of chevs.

I think ASCS has been running for around 20 years now with a bunch of chevs.

The article says Johnson used an Ott 410 until he gets his Roush Yates 410 on April 1. Hosehead has pictures of the Ford in Johnson's machine from East Bay..

I was there (canyon), and trust me, it was the Rouch Yates engine in Johnson's car.

Johnson and Noll Conquer the Copper Classic
Bryan Hulbert - Peoria, AZ (March 3, 2012) - The Copper Classic finale at the Canyon Speedway Park in Peoria, Arizona saw a night of ups and downs as two time Lucas Oil ASCS National Champion Jason Johnson took the win behind the wheel of the Roush Yates/AccuDoc Solutions 41.
"We have a great group of guys and I can't thank Stenhouse Racing and Roush for this opportunity to showcase the Ford horsepower" explained Johnson during his post-race interview. "It's something unique and that's what we like to be".http://www.abcmotorsports.com/copperresults3-5-12.htm

By no means is the Roush-Yates the most expensive motor in ASCS racing, the other top Chevy builders charge an arm and a leg as well.
Cheers!

That's true Charles, but the facilities and technology that Rouch/Yates brings to the table is hard to match, even by the top long time builders who charge as much or more. Any way you want to look at it though, and regardless of the builder, 45 grand is a lot of money to pay for a 360, particularly when you look at the purses today and the overall cost to put a car on the track.

LOL at paying $40,000 for a 360 to run for 35-50 percent of what a 410 runs for. That's what I never quite get about the people that cheerlead so hard for 360s on here. Sure, they are somewhat cheaper than a 410, but with a very few exceptions, the purses the 360s run for are prehistoric.

Jason has run a Roush FORD in all the 360 shows this year. He does not have his Roush Ford 410s yet so at Vegas he ran a DynoTech 410.

I don't know what this guy mindless has wrong with him but the facts speak for themselves. A person should not put out phony signature lines:
the facts:
2011 WoO champion Jason Meyers and Finals Night champion Donny Schatz - Chevy power, 2011 Big Block Modified champion Matt Sheppard and Finals Night BB Mod champion Tim McCreadie with Chevy power and the bowtie sweep ends with WoO LM champ Rick Eckert and Late Model Finals Night champ Jimmy Owens as well as 99% plus of all 141 finals night entrants with Chevy power. I don't expect that to change in 2012 no matter how much money Ford shovels to Roush-Yates to "get in the game". To take it a step farther mindless, 99% plus of all entrants at every dirt track in the country, from street stock to Late model to Sprint cars, winged or non-wing will be bowtie powered. And the GM crate engine program for hot rodders keeps getting bigger and bigger with no end in sight.
Lawlessness and liberalism equals Hell. NY City,
Detroit, Seattle, Chicago, Minnepolis, etc. We saw it.
Burning hundreds of buildings, a thousand assaults and
dozens of murders. Getting worser and worser.

I have told you what specific part of your signature is wrong and you won't fix it. Tell me what part of mine is "phony" and I will be glad to change it.

The sooner 360s cost more than a 410 or the Schatz motor the better...there is absolutely no reason to continue the myth that cranking the living shit out of a small motor is ever going to make racing affordable. Big motors with less maintenance / tweaksy modifications needs considerations.
People are in the grandstand to see fast cars, not stressed equipment..
This might upset the motor industry, but I really don't give a shit whos name is on the valve cover...
