I was just listening to HotRod on the AmericanDirtNetwork and he also mentioned "unconfirmed" that Lindquist has quit the Forbrook team and has left racing all together. I was just wondering if there is truth to this. Mike?? If it is the case, the upper midwest will miss the talent of this youngster.

I know Brad Sparks, the man who crew chiefed the 55L 360 car the past two years. When they abandoned the 360 operation for the Forbrook oppertunity, Brad moved on and I don't have information on what goes on with Dustin as far as racing like I did in the past.

I made a couple phone calls trying to get some insight (for personal info and not for public posting) but either nobody knows what's going on or nobody is talking. I talked to Dustin at Superior and (just my impression) his confidence level was not as high as I remembered it being in the past. I had heard through the grapevine that the sponsorship was in place for an entire season but you know how the grapevine can be. Anybody who reads Flat Out might recall that I wrote the article about the top 25 under 25 for Dustin so I've been following his progress since then.

Dustin Lindquist is too good of a driver not to be racing something whether it's 410/360 Sprints, a Late Model or Modified, he's a good driver. Nevertheless, it's his choice to continue on in the sport in some capacity if that's what he wants to do. Not many "retired" guys his age can say that they won at Knoxville so whatever he does I wish him success.

It's human nature to be curious about something like this and I'm sure that in time we'll find out through that notorious grapevine what happened. Whether there is any official release on this matter remains to be seen but I guess the bottom line is that it's up to Dustin where he wants to go with this.

IMO on Dustin's short track work

He is sharp on a dry bullring. Smooth with the wheel and throttle, good in traffic. I wouldn't think he has a gap in talent based on track size or tacky/slick feel. Aside from the swtich to 410, the travel would have gotten him on more types of dirt then we have around here.

Dustin Lindquist has decided on his own to pull the plug on racing, there are many factors that I will not get into. Guy Forbrook had nothing to do with the decision Dustin has made. It's too bad because there's lot of people that have alot of time into the kid and now it's all down the tube. He has already showed he can win 360 races, 410 races, but if you heart is not into it, it's not going to work. Enough said.

I'd never question his talent but I've seen him fighting the setup a little more at some of the short tracks so I just threw that subject out there. I probably should have worded that a little differently but every driver has their strong points and favorite tracks, even the guy who used to drive the 2k wink Dustin has the talent that he would have conquered all of the various types of tracks and surfaces.

I think we would all agree that we could see the potential that Dustin has and we all were in his corner cheering for him. We've got a curiosity about what happened because we wanted to see him succeed but sometimes these things happen and the "rest of the story" never becomes public knowledge. Not that we have to pry into his personal life, sometimes as racefans we think we have a right to know everything and that isn't always the case. Who knows, maybe he just found out that the sport at this level isn't what he really wants to do with his life. He's a young man, perhaps college, the family business or some other pursuit besides racing has caught his interest.

When I was younger I was a big fan of Scratch Daniels. Scratch walked away from racing in 1969 when he was in his prime and never looked back. The thing about racing, and you know this very well Jimmy, is that even the most successful drivers are out there spending a lot of somebody's money. It's a tough sport that is driven by a lot of money and sometimes when things like this happen it's hard for the outside observers to make heads or tails of it.

Dustin is a good young man and based on his performance in a Sprint Car he'll be a success in whatever he decides to do going forward.

Let me know if there is a way that we can pass on our thanks for entertaining us and to wish Dustin well in whatever he decides to do Chuck. There are a lot of people who have been running these cars their whole life who wish they could say they won a Knoxville 410 Feature. That and his success in the 360's should give him the confidence that whatever he does in life he can succeed.

The best way to say thanks to Dustin is to post it right here and I will be sure he see's it. Dustin has been talking about this off and on for some time now. And he figured, now was the time.

First of all Dustin would like to thank all of you who have supported throughout the past five years. It has been a long road filled with many memorable moments and many more wonderful people (you know who you guys are! wink). Dustin did make the executive decision to "retire" as it has been said. Yes he is young and yes he has talent however he just decided enough is enough. He is excited to start a new chapter in his life eagerly looking forward to his first summer with his son Jayce. Life changes as well as ones priorities. Once again THANK YOU SO MUCH for your support!

Good luck and best wishes to all!

Maybe Dustin just needed a break from racing.... You can tell the guy is a competitor. Like Chad Meyer, he'll be back. It may not be this year but as the long days of winter return, he'll get that passion back to go fast and turn left. I hope he does. I really enjoyed watching him. If anything, I hope we see him on the ASCS tour this Summer. Best wishes to Dustin with whatever he decides to do with his life.

Thanks for posting and tell Dustin we'll miss watching him race. I'm glad to see this cleared up as that should stop any speculation regarding Dustin and Guy. Not only do I wish Dustin well but Forbrook Motorsports will be scrambling to get on with their season. That's a Minnesota based team so I don't want to forget to wish them good luck too.

Dustin,

You are a champion and a class act! You have been a total hoot to watch and I'd be lying if I said that I don't completely ache at the thought of no longer keeping up with your racing. Thank you so much for all of the entertainment you've provided the last few years.

The entertainment that Jayce provides is even better, though, and I am so proud of you for stepping back to enjoy it. Racing will always be there for you to go back to, and whether it's 5 years from now or 20 years from now, you will excel at it. You only get one chance at those precious young years with your child, though. Way to go Dustin! Enjoy your beautiful little family!

We love & completely support the 3 of you!

Mary & Audrey
