Alright folks, the qualifying nights have been posted so it is time for the annual "who will make the A" thread. In no particular order, here is my top 24 prediction for Saturday night along with the "close but no cigar" group. Anybody in that group would not surprise me if they made the A. Feel free to post yours and we will see who the winner is. In no particular order:
1 Sammy Swindell
7s Jason Sides
11 Steve Kinser
15 Donny Schatz
15h Sam Hafertepe JR.
17 Tyler Walker
56 Davey Heskin
57 Shane Stewart
83x Tim Shaffer
47 Don Droud JR
2 Dale Blaney
7 Craig Dallansky
14 Jason Meyers
21 Brian Brown
30c Lance Dewease
33 Danny Lasoski
39 Greg Hodnett
41 Jason Johnson
83 Paul McMahan
91 Cody Darrah
91x Dusty Zomer
92 Kerry Madsen
5w Lucas Wolfe
63 Chad Kemenah
Honorable Mention: 45x Johnny Herrera, 51 Fred Rahmer, 89G David Gravel, 12 Lynton Jeffrey, 18 Tony Bruce JR, 38 Wayne Johnson, 1S Kevin Swindell, 13 Mark Dobmeier, 21M Brian Montieth, 27 Daryn Pittman, 35 Justin Henderson, 55 Terry McCarl, 55x Jason Solwold, 59 Brooke Tatnell, 0 Jonathan Allard, 17A Austin McCarl, 1Z Stevie Smith.

Awesome to see davey heskin on the list. He would most certainly be a dark horse but he showed last year he has what it takes. I would guess him to finish 10-15 in the A. Just don't think he has the money behind him to do much better.... But with a little luck who knows. Weird things happen at the nationals.

That is exactly why I put him in. He quietly snuck in to the A and had a good showing last year. He always seems to time well and all he needs is a couple breaks in his heat.

Good list only thing I would change is swap Droud for Dobmeier. Mark was flying last weekend after wrecking hard in a heat. Droud hasnt made much noise all season. Other than that the list looks good. Is Austin McCarl eligible for rookie of the year I thought he raced in it last year?

I went and looked back and you are correct. My bad, Austin did run last year. I will have to move him to my "honorable mention" group . As far as Droud goes, I was debating the same thing, but it always seems like they pull something out of the hat and run well at the Nationals.

I'd switch Pittman and Hodnett around. I'm just not confident in the 39's qualifying abilites yet. I'd also switch Rahmer for Dewease. Rahmer has been the fastest PA car all season and if he's 100% (which he's not, still up in the air for running this weekend) he will make the A.
There is a 0% chance Dewease makes the A. His days of running respectively off the porch are over.
I also don't remember the last time Solwold didn't make the A, but that is a car that hasn't run since last year, so who knows?
Other than that, those are the drivers you can expect to make the feature. Of course, every year at least 5 of those top 20 drivers in the world get screwed either by a terrible pill, heat race crash or any other fluke deal. That's what makes the Nationals so unique. Nobody can predict what underdogs make the feature until we see the time trial order.
Rookie of the Nationals: Danny Holtgraver...unless Monteith adapts very quickly.

Okay, but I don't think Dewease is really running that good today, but I also don't think Darrah will make the "A",so take those two out, take out Droud, and one more S, Smith, now you add T-mac,Tatnell,Dobmier,Pittman,Monteith.

Not a bad list...except somehow you missed the 1Z of Stevie Smith. It's not to late to remove Heskin and include The Bandit.

Your kidding right?
Doesn't have the money behind him!
The money is endless in the Maxwell camp.
His (cars) they have a few for him, are the very best equipped at Knoxville, WoO quality.
Four Garrett 410's and two 360's.
They have had a lot of bad luck this year.
P.S. Davey, Take it E-Z on Gramps, or I might have to sagest to Butch to put Clint Garner in the car for the Nationals!

Stevie lit the world on fire in 2009 and his Nationals performance was representive of that. In 2010 he was solid all season but definitly back to earth and so was his Nationals run. In 2011, it's been dismal to say the least. There is a ray of hope though, he got his elbows up big time when the big boys came to town. I'll say he transfers out of the B again.

Added Stevie Smith to the honorable mention. I do not believe he will make the A this year. He has been struggling a bit this year, but you never know. That's why we love the Nationals!!

Nah...as long as he doesn't have to time last on Thursday he'll be in the big dance. The team has got the car going good again. Not as good as he was on the Hoosiers. Tommy just hasn't figured out these junk Goodyears too well.
