Wasn't there, but am reading the posts. No one is holding a gun to this guys' head and forcing him to run sprint cars at his track. You know he reads the board here. I can understand constructive criticism but if you are going to pound him, at least mix it up by telling him 1 thing that he did right.

Rich, he did a lot of things right. First off, he ran a sprint car event at his track. He also showed a bit of humor by having the "Steve shut up" promotional price. The track actually looked beautiful other than the lack of moisture.
He is still learning the weekly show business. The tin top racers are not as persnickety as the sprint car racers about track surface and that may end up being the undoing of sprint cars at Victorville. We all sing praises about how well Ascot was prepped. The cars back then didn't have the track surface ripping horsepower then either. It has been over 20 years since Ascot closed.
In the end I see that their are only two real issues:
1. The dust. We all remember how long it took Perris to get a decent raceable surface.
2. The officiating. Are they using transponders? That might help. I am not sure what the officiating crew could see through the dust and this may have contributed to the problems.

That's where you are gravely mistaken. Track surface is as important to all racers. What is different is what type of track is better for each type of car. Super Late Models need a different type of track than sprint cars to put on their best show. Then just try getting the track right for the IMCA modifieds with their 2450lb cars running 600 hp motors, all on 8 inch super hard tires that cannot be grooved or altered in any way. I own a dwarf car. I know our show will be terrible if we have to run on a dry slick rutted up track, or any rutted up track for that matter, with our tiny little hard tires, and with how much torque a 1000 CC EFI motorcycle engine can make with a 1000 lb car.
Ron Barnett is a late model guy, but he will learn what the sprints need quickly enough! And when the track crew gets a hold on what the best cars to run together on the same show are, and what order to run them in, it will still get even better.
They just had a thread on the late model site titled "the art of race track prep"- got over 130 responses and over 7000 hits. It is from the last few months, so trust me when I say- the stock car guys want a great track as much as the sprint car guys, the art of the deal is to get it right for everyone in the same night. And the funny thing is, you see the same hatred there for the dune buggies, as you do here for the tin tops. Each group feels like they should be the one who is catered to, and gets mad when the track is prepped to favor one or the other.
As Rich Cee said- I wasn't there last night. I have been there with our dwarf car when John Aden and Mike Gibson made us pack the track that started in 8 inches deep of slop, and our driver could barely get the car to go around the track, all so the sprint cars could finish the packing on a nicer track. We probably left most of the useable track surface in the pit area on those nights, and maybe thats why the clay is not as good today.
If the track was smooth and rock free on Mr. Barnett's first try for the sprint cars, and the drivers liked it- you can be sure he will get it better and better in the shows to come- Steve Quercio wants a full grandstand- he will give the fans the show that will make the grandstand full.

so I guess we now know why USAC required Aden to prep the track for thier race....5years + Gibson and Aden worked together to give us a safe -fast track...and I for one wish to thank them!

You're correct....2007 was the first year the Gibson family and Aden joined forces ...they moved the 'K' rail back..put some needed banking to the track and put a new clay surface down...personally I think the track needs some more clay now...I hope things work out ,,I had some good times there .
