It was an interesting show to say the least. The track was smooth and properly graded. However, I don't think that any water was put on it until about 4:30 in the afternoon. And when it was put down and sort of just ran down, not in. By the time the main came around the track surface had been watered down several times. But when the main started a "Haboob" developed. From where I was sitting the view was downright scary. Cars would come hurtling out of an all but impenetrable cloud of dust in turn four.
On more that one occasion it appeared that the flagman was fumbling around looking for the yellow flag. One time he grabbed the red by mistake.
It seemed like the main event was short. Like maybe only 22 laps. What's the rush, it wasn't even nine o'clock yet.
The car count was 16. I don't know how that affects the purse structure.
Sometimes it just happens that one heat will be super loaded with talent. The second heat was just that. The best part of that was young Mr. Roa won the second heat. Did his car only have a 360 in it?
I got to see some cars and drivers that have been missing in action for a while.
I also got to spend some quality time with some of the finest people on earth, devoted sprint car fans.
Okay, I gotta go now and wash the dust off of my face.

Steve you need to find out what happend,cutting races short is a sure fire way to lose fans

so I guess we now know why USAC required Aden to prep the track for thier race....5years + Gibson and Aden worked together to give us a safe -fast track...and I for one wish to thank them!

Thanks HarryFan. Yes, Brody has a 360 and was very pleased with his 5th-place finish against this tough crowd.
Brody will give it a shot again next week at The PAS.

THERE IS NO EXCUSE WHY 2 SPRINT CAR MAINS HAVE BEEN CUT SHORT ,,, I THINK YOU NEED A SCOREBOARD,,,YOUR TRYING TO BRING IN MORE SPRINT CARS,[PRIME DIV.] AND MORE FANS IN THE STANDS,,, TO ME ,THIS MAKES IT' NOT '.WORTH THE DRIVE TO SEE A IN COMPLETE SHOW,,,,STEVE YOU GOT A FEW BIG PROBLEMS TO ADDRESS BEFORE YOU PUT ON ANOTHER SPRINT CAR RACE,,,,1-OFFICIALS - LAP COUNTER,,,,2-A STARTER THAT DOES NOT GET CONFUSED UNDER PRESSURE,, 3-TRACK PREPP...WHEN JOHN WAS PREPPING THE TRACK,,GOOD SURFACE ALL NIGHT,,,NOW IT HAS GONE DOWN HILL EVER SENSE,,,, FOR ME ITS NOT WORTH THE 300 MILE DRIVE UNTILL THESE ISSUES HAVE BEEN HAMMERED OUT.....ZZ

Thank you to all the teams and fans for your attendance and support. It was a crazy night to say the least...but in my humble opinion, overall it went rather well for a brand-new crew. From track prep to tech to officiating to scoring, we had a fresh new group of faces working dilligently to put on a show for everyone, despite the extreme weather conditions.
My hats off to Mr. Ron Barnett for his efforts all week working the track surface. There was dust in the sprint heats and in the main event, this is true. However, the track surface itself was excellent. Smooth, no major ruts, and rock free! The clay had been graded and hydrated for at least three days prior to the racing. Water was added all morning as well. The dust came from the drying surface at the very top, which is more than understandable considering the heat and high winds we had all day.
It was a given that there would be some drying of the track during the sprint car heats...that is normal at Victorville...not much anyone can do about that. But if you payed attention to the other divisions, they were flying around the 3/8 clay oval all night. No dust, no bumps...just plain fast but with multi-grooves.
Water was added all night...but only in small amounts for dust control. The clay was hydrated at least 6-8 inches under that top layer. By the time the Sprint car main was about to push off, it was actually the Sprint car owners and drivers that insisted that no more water be added. As the track had started to really come in, they knew that adding more water would make the track too tacky. The drivers and owners wanted a multi-groove surface, and one in which the 360's had a shot. They got just that.
I realize that dust blowing off the surface is annoying to even the most hardcore fan, but none of the drivers I talked to after the races had negative comments about the surface. In fact, in his winner's circle interview, Matt Mitchell told the crowd how much he enjoyed the track and that it made for a "driver's" track...requiring a bit of skill and patience...and allowing for slide jobs and side-by-side racing.
Those who stuck around for the remainder of the show witnessed the best track surface for the stock cars that I have ever seen. The street stocks were clocked by stop watch at lap times over a second faster than they have been in over a year. The drivers I interviewed on the track were struggling to regain their breath after working so hard to keep a hold of their machines at those speeds.
With any new change, there are bound to be a few mistakes. Unfortunately, a couple occured that stood out tonight. For that, we apologize and assure you that we're doing everything we can to make sure they won't happen again.
To end on a postive note, it was great to see some of the stars from the Sprint car world make appearances tonight at VRP. It was also great to see a healthy crowd of fans enjoying a great night at the races...and many who got in for only $10 for mentioning this board. I personally was relieved to see the progress in the track prep, and feel very confident that all the right pieces are in place to keep up the reputation that VRP has built over the last few years for the quality of the surface. We can't control the weather, but we can control the effort. And tonight, no one gave up trying until the final races were run on a great track!

no he was not ignoring me!I think he had already got an ear full from Mr.Jones,in fact Steve and I had a very good conversation earlier in the evening and I can tell you he really wants this thing to work,all we can do is hope he gets it figured out.

Glad he was not ignoring you Rob! I for one want to see him succeed we have lost so many good tracks.. I did like what he said about getting together with the other promoters!

that track was prep all week the sprinter ask for a foggy of water for the main i know this for a fact case i know how much water was in that trach and how deep

What I can say about the track is this, most people wont know the last detail of that track other than the men who put in a lot of time and work on it. Who knows, maybe the new track crew found out that the track hasn't seen new clay in several months (not by Steve's choice) and didn't have much to work with in short time. Glad to see all the big dogs show up last night.

you can put lipstick on pig all you want, but in the end it's still a pig! I see to much fluff from this deal. Hopefully it get's better, but the track to me sounds if it was made for the fender cars IMO and not necessarily prepped for the sprint-cars as much.

' Rewriting history are we....VRP took over the track at the first of this year..you can count the number of sprint car races ran this year on one hand...as far as track conditions goes ,you can count the number of nights the track was good on one finger...the USAC night....you want to be successfull heres the formula.....John Aden +...in the past it didn't matter what the weather-when the 'a' main rolled around Aden gave us a great track.Learn from your mistakes ...don't pretend they didn't happen

I've been doing a little math...
I got a 33% discount at the gate.
But the race was only cut about 26%.
Does that mean that I came out ahead?

The track was a dust bowl i do not believe they dumped water for 3 days prior . 3 laps before they through the checkered pre maturely 1 of our future stars austin williams was sitting backwards just off the edge of the inside line and no yellow was flown are you kidding me . get it right keep our guys safe nomatter your time limits . but hey i saw a glimps of sprint cars racing thru the dust im okay with that . steve work a lil harder man . were picky us sprint car fans but were loyal and ill drive anywhere for a sprint car race . and RJ5150 you are absolutely correct the trophy cup is the best race ive seen in the last 2 years hands down great format and i believe 83 cars raced both nights last year .
We need more sprint car racing at our home track.
