No, I only made it to Sedalia a couple of times.

I was at Webster City when he had the crash that pretty much ended his career though.

Speaking of wild rides, one of the more "bizarre" incidents I ever saw occured with Greg Weld at Knoxville.

At the time there were some grain bins that stood outside of turn 2. Greg got over the wall and ended up with the front end of his car stuck in the side of the grain bin with the whole car about 3' or so off the ground to my recollection.

I remember the grain bins in turn two and along the back stretch and several cars going over the fence at turn two. Not sure I remember Greg Weld going over, but certainly remember both the Welds and Blundys racing at Knoxville. We moved from Otley area to about 50 miles east in 1958 and only attended races a few times a year after that.

It was a Blundy that went out of the mile at Sedalia but it was Cliff in the blue 33 not Jerry.

You may get a kick out of this photo. From '68. Jerry Blundy outside of Ray Lee Goodwin at Sedalia, MO. This would have still been the mile track,( I think).

If it wasn't for the obvious safety concerns, it was great to be able to see these guys sitting upright in the cars, "elbows up".

Thanks for the great photo.

Hi Boys Cliffs daughter here, and yes it was my Dad in Sedalia. He blew a tire on the backstretch. There was actually a cop in the parking lot that tried to write him tickets for hitting the parked cars. The cop was told to give the ticket to the fair board. Dad actually cleared the chainlink and bounced over the snow fence. Slow motion in my mind, I see about 3 and a half high bounces, with rotations during the bounces. He was in shock sitting under the tree he hit. Grandpa's mechanic Hugh ran and was looking under the rubble for him, and he kept saying Hugh's name and he thought he was stuck under the car. The track wouldnt let Mom and I cross the track, and it was a hot afternoon and a long way to be drug around the outside of that track. He refused treatment, and it was a very long ride home, we stopped to eat at an all nite diner and they didnt want to serve him because they thought he was drunk. There was also a bad one at 34 in Burlington where both went to the hospital in separate ambulances. I remember standing in the hall with Mom and Grandma wondering which room to enter first. When I was very very small, Grandpa was in a hospital bed in the living room with both arms and one leg casted. Used to have a Bell cracked like an egg in the basement, not sure where it got to.

Blundy Girl.

So good to see your response!

Your Grandpa will always be my hero, even if I live to be 100. He was, and I'm sure still is, an outstanding man.

I also really enjoyed watching your Dad race, although I certainly didn't get to see him do so for as long as I would have liked.

Many thanks to both of them for all the great memories. (I also have very fond memories of your Grandmother, who sent me some letters and post cards over the years.)

The Blundy's were/are all great people. God bless you all.
