how does that make any sense? so what if the car counts are down, they have been for a few years now. if you went to any races over the past few years you would have figured that one out. the cars that do show up put on the best show they can for the fans.

Last Friday night there were 24 Sprint Cars at a track a half hour from home and 21 at another track an hour and a half from here on Saturday night. Knoxville is about 5 hours and we have never had much luck getting things straight at that place.

This week the Sprints will be a half hour from home on Friday night so I'll opt for the "secret" instead of driving 300 miles to see if by chance my name made the list. There are lots of great opportunities for audio interviews, material for the racing paper and some great photo ops right here in the neighborhood. ;-)

Seriously, weekly racing has been taking a hit this second year of the bad economy. Quite a few racers are sitting out weekly shows and only coming out for the special events and it's having an effect on car counts at all of the tracks across the board. It's tough when a track runs 6 or 7 classes and all they can muster is 60 or 70 cars. I think the back gate philosophy that has been carrying a lot of these tracks up in our area is coming back to haunt some of these promoters.
