Hey guys,
I'm working on a countdown of the greatest father-son (and sometimes grandfather) combos in sprint car and midget racing. I've come up with a list of candidates, but I'm sure that I'm blanking on a few obvious choices. My list (in no particular order) is below. If anyone can think of families that deserve to be added, I'd appreciate you putting your two cents in (and also who you think should be ranked where).
- Sheldon, Steve and Kraig Kinser
- Joe and Joey Saldana
- Sammy and Kevin Swindell
- Al Unser Sr. and Jr.
- Howard, Brent, Tim and Bud Kaeding
- Bubby and Tony Jones
- Duane and Pancho Carter
- Johnnie Parsons and Johnny Parsons
- Bill Vukovich, Bill Vukovich Jr. and Billy Vukovich III
- Tony Bettenhausen Sr., Gary Bettenhausen and Tony
Bettenhausen Jr.
- Doug, Jimmy and Danny Caruthers
- Parnelli, P.J. and Page Jones
- Don and Rich Vogler
- Jerry Richert Sr. and Jerry Richert Jr.
- Steve Smith and Stevie Smith
- Ron Shuman and Casey Shuman
- Bob Pankratz, Wally Pankratz and Wally Pankratz Jr.
Thanks for any feedback!

Was not Ron Shuman's father, Bill, an outstanding midget driver at Manzy
Additionally, did AJ Foyt, Sr. not wield a midget or two ???
John Andretti and his dad, Aldo

Just a note... Chad out qualified the Sprints on Manzy's 1/2 mile at the last Copper on Dirt, in a Midget!

Gary Wright's Dad Grady was a good racer himself. He would leave Texarkana and tow to the Old Devil's Bowl for the Fri. night show on those 2 lane "hiways". That is now 170 miles via the interstate.
Jimmy and James McElreath were also good sprint car racers.
For the record - the Beabers - Johnny ( dubbed "The Littlest Outlaw" and Tony can both hold their heads high in racing.
Also Donnie Ray Crawford's Dad Ray raced, as did his granddad.
I believe that Harold Leep, Jr. is racing at Okla. City now, and his dad... oh - maybe he was a top gun in modifieds. I don't know if he ran sprints. Could be the same with the Crawfords as for some time in Okla. the modifieds ruled.
I really think the record must be held by the Jennings family in Okla. City. Since I don't live there I'm not as familiar with them, but Earnest certainly passed his racing genes down the family line.
Great list(s). I've really enjoyed it all.

I was checking midget racing results and ran across this 3rd generation racer note. I don't know if any were sprints or if they were all in midgets. Still - this is pretty impressive.
From an old hoseheads post in November of 2004 - but edited in 2009 Third Generation Racer and very pleasantly fetching, Courtney Erfurth makes her BMARA competition debut. She is still racing.

Just for clarification...the topic was started and looking for the GREATEST father-son-grandfather combos. Some of you people are posting your cousins names or something because I haven't heard of quite a few of them. (not saying im a racing trivia expert either). What really seems sad is that it took until the 2nd page to mention the name Gaines????
do it in the dirt

Courtney Erfurth is the daughter of 1990 Badger midget champ Dean Erfurth and the grand daughter of 1964 Badger midget champ Ron Erfurth. She just won her first heat race on Sunday night in Sun Prairie, this is her first year in racing.

Part II just went up - as a hint, we have our first three-generation
family, and our first father/son combo who are both still racing.
Here's the link. I'm going to try and get through the rest on a daily basis
