These are all good ones. I'll make sure that a lot of them get into the stories in one way or another.
Right now I'm going to limit it to 10 father-son combos. The last decision I have to make is between the following:
Bubby and Tony Jones
Steve and Stevie Smith
Parnelli, P.J. and Page Jones
I'm leaning towards the Smiths, but I'd be open to anyone wanting to make a case for either of the Jones families (or some other combo).

Has Pauch Jr. been in a sprint car yet? I'm pretty sure he has.

Hey guys,
I'm working on a countdown of the greatest father-son (and sometimes grandfather) combos in sprint car and midget racing. I've come up with a list of candidates, but I'm sure that I'm blanking on a few obvious choices. My list (in no particular order) is below. If anyone can think of families that deserve to be added, I'd appreciate you putting your two cents in (and also who you think should be ranked where).
- Sheldon, Steve and Kraig Kinser
- Joe and Joey Saldana
- Sammy and Kevin Swindell
- Al Unser Sr. and Jr.
- Howard, Brent, Tim and Bud Kaeding
- Bubby and Tony Jones
- Duane and Pancho Carter
- Johnnie Parsons and Johnny Parsons
- Bill Vukovich, Bill Vukovich Jr. and Billy Vukovich III
- Tony Bettenhausen Sr., Gary Bettenhausen and Tony
Bettenhausen Jr.
- Doug, Jimmy and Danny Caruthers
- Parnelli, P.J. and Page Jones
- Don and Rich Vogler
- Jerry Richert Sr. and Jerry Richert Jr.
- Steve Smith and Stevie Smith
- Ron Shuman and Casey Shuman
- Bob Pankratz, Wally Pankratz and Wally Pankratz Jr.
Thanks for any feedback!
|
I don't know for sure if Wally Pankratz has a son, Jr., driving; but he does have a daughter, Randi, driving midgets.

Lou had hundreds of wins in sprints (including the 1966 Williams Grove National Open) before moving into the eastern big block modifieds. Unfortunately, Lou passed away this winter.
Others from Western PA include:
Putsy and Mike Kekich
Ralph and Tommy Quarterson
Ed Lynch Sr and Ed Lynch Jr
Buddy Cochran and sons Troy and Johnny
Gus and John Linder
Jerry and Brent Matus
Jack Sodeman Sr and Jack Sodeman Jr
Dick Bailey and sons Bill and Rick

Greg Rilat & Travis Rilat (both active)
it depends on if we are talking active or inactive. If talkin inactive - then we could list about 40% of all sprint car drivers EVER probably.....
so I personally prefer to think both still active. so with that in mind, and with Rilat's already listed..
Earnest Jennings (g-pa) - Bruce Jennings (father) - Brandon Jennings (son). That may be the only grandpa-father-son racing tandem in sprint car racing right now (remember - ALL ACTIVE).
Robert Sellers and Shane Sellers (OKC & Lawton) Rick Barksdale and Sheldon Barksdale (OKC)
