It has been reported on the 20/20 Racing page that Raleigh Sandberg died in his sleep.
More details will be posted as they become available.
A great friend who will be sorely missed!

That truly is sad news,,, Raleigh was always fast and always a good yardstick to judge just how fast you were if you could keep up and run with him......
My condolances to Rik and the entire Sanberg family,,,,
Stand on the gas Raliegh...

Very sad news. Raleigh was honest, opinionated AND easy-going; that's a tough combination to find. I missed racing with him these past couple of years and will miss the chance to B.S. even more.
Our condolances to the Sandberg family and to all of Raleigh's friends and extended family.
Sincerely, Jimmy, Jamie, Jake, & Kait Kouba

Likewise my condolences and we'll be thinking of the Sandberg family during this difficult time.

I took the liberty of creating a hyperlink from the address you gave sprntr. That's a moving slide presentation.

Your right on that one Stan,,, The one thing that I noticed in the slide presentation about Raleigh was in every picture you see that smile of his,,,,, I'll never forget some of the conversations that we had after the races,,, of course there was a little beer there too,,,,, LOL!!! Last year up at the Mighty Axe, Raleigh and I were chatting after the races and he was telling me about his kids,,, and how they were all growing up and how he missed when they were little,, boy,, you could sure hear the pride in his voice as he was telling me about his family......... He was a very lucky man..

Hi All-
I just want to thank all of you for posting these messages on this forum about my dad. It is really nice to know that you all were thinking of him and his family during this tragic event. The pictures are great too, I just wish I had more hard copies of them to put in my scrap book that I am putting together in memory of my dad. If any of you would be willing to send some pictures my address is

Again, thank you so much for all of the kind words about the "Long Prairie Outlaw" we will surely miss him. Love you all!

I have a few Ashley but they were taken with my film camera so I'll have to dig them out and scan them. I'll save your address to a text file and mail you whatever 4x6's I can dig up. I don't have a lot of them because I was just getting started back them but there should be a few. Give me a couple of weeks though, it's kind of been busy and scanning will take some time.

Ashely:
From the Koubas... You're very welcome. We know how much it means to know how much people cared. Your family deserves to hear every nice thing said about Raleigh because it is simply the truth. It is a sad fact that we tend to not tell the world how great a person is until they are gone. It seems to take a loss for us to open up and say what we've felt.
You should also know that my New Zealand buddy, George, was very sad to hear of Raleigh's passing. Of all the people he met on his first trip to the Midwest, Raleigh made the most lasting impression. The day we spent at the Long Prairie shop was the one he talked about the most and remembers as the fairest, most straight up deal he made. George wanted you all to know he is thinking of you and sincerely sorry for your loss.
Take care, Jimmy

I am just glad that anyone who has something to say, says
something...it helps me and my family with the grief and mourning
process. At the funeral and wake, I could not believe the amount
of flowers, bouquets and plants that everyone sent....They were all
just gorgeous and it just goes to show how much people really
appreciated and cared about my dad. He had alot of friends
everywhere. Stan that would be wonderful if I could get some
pictures from you...that would mean alot...I think I have maybe three
pictures of my dad racing and Rik was telling me that there is someone
down by Duluth that has like a museum dedicated to nothing but sprint
cars and their racers...my dad and Rik are "members" so to speak.
I think Rik might take me down there sometime. But anyway, I hope
to see you all around at the races sometime...
Talk to you all soon and again thanks for all the kind words.
Love,
Ashley
