My Dad would know! Pokeyokie would surely know, probably have a pic somewhere.

That car ran most likely in 68-71. The cars were getting narrow, and most guys found it cheaper to cut down their wide bodies than to buy fiberglass versions.

I think this is a car he ran in the modified class at Lawton in 1970.I think it was blue in color.

The photo of the car #26 that I posted my reply is not the car, my mistake, I forgot the photo of car #26 was on there. In my 1970 Lawton Speedway program has a photo of Ken Sweet standing by the car I believe you have. It is not a full image of the car,but you can see some of the car.

I've heard of that name on the car...

Anyway, Dad said Ken did drive a 6 cylinder that year. Somebody has a picture somewhere. Feilds Printing in Lawton may have an answer since he used to take pics out there in the '70s, so I hear.

I assure you, if there was a pic I could put up right now, I would. I have been checking around and find it may be better to take the body to Lawton sometime on a Saturday night and something COULD turn up. Hang onto that body, I live this everyday, and veerrry few of those are accounted for. Most chopped, narrowed bodies were tossed in favor of fiberglass, and not many tin types of that size left. Let alone a notable driver like Ken Sweet--and the name "hellzapoppin", that is just too freakin cool! I HAVE HEARD THAT CAR NAME IN THE PAST FOR SURE.

Call Fields Printing in Lawton when you can, that may be a start. Lanny Edwards may remember that car, he is a fan of the old cars for certain.

Joe Farley might have something over there, maybe even Jr. Bruner, or even the "Flying Fuzz" Doug Joyner. Somebody has memories, or even pics, somewhere.

John Chadwell in Wichita Falls might even have something, he was a big fan of Lawton back in the day.

Something will turn up somewhere. I'll be watching.

Just found out the body you have was built by Keith Gardner out of Binger, Oklahoma. He built the whole car, frame and all. Brian will up date this info later on.

Yep,

On a lark I called Keith to see if he knew anything about Ken Sweet or that body. Turned out Keith BUILT the car! BLUE 21 and it was built right around 1970.

It was a 4 door sedan Jearl Meeks of Ardmore had, complete with frame. Keith and his brother picked it up and took it back to Binger and built the car. Keith eventually sold it to someone, and he even drove it a while for that guy, and the car sold to someone in lawton and it ended up with Ken Sweet.

Ken put the "Hellzapoppin" on the car.

Now the crazy part- we have a Keith Gardner frame over here. Keith was a good friend of my family, nephew to Jearl, who was also like family. The frame is my Uncles, and he does not sell anything. He is notorious for that. He talks to Keith all the time it seems when he's in Binger on a job.

I'm askin' early, because I know the question is coming--Would you care to sell or trade that body?

I guarantee you I'll find you a good deal.

One more thing-

I need another project like I need a hole in the head. However, That frame we have and the parts that have stacked up over the past 3 years, make it a viable build to me-if we had the body.

Right now I have 3 cars, and 1 more on the backburner and keep finding myself taking in more than I can chew. I am good with leaving that frame out there, but if I had the body, I WOULD HAVE TO BUILD THE CAR.

Now that being said--IF you are tee-totally in love with the car and wish to go on and build it from the ground up, I can get you in touch with Keith, and can look out for any parts , and even a frame for that car.

Me and my club have decided we would like to build it. We are a Hot Rod and custom club, but we really think this old bady can be made something special.

Are you going to build it for the vintage dirt shows?

Since you are rich in history and want to keep it alive like myself maybe you guys can help me out. You all are hot rodders, right? Does anybody in your organization have any history of Lyman Kidwell from here in Lawton? He was a drag racer in the '50's and early 60's. He ran a gasser 1950 or 1951 Ford. He held a couple national records from1957 and 1958 too. He was killed in a car accident in 1962. He also built a 1941 Willys Coupe to run with the stock cars at Lawton Speedway during this time frame. I would appreciate any information about Lyman.

I have some pics here somewhere of a Keith Gardner frame we have. I'll even ask if my Uncle wants to sell it. I saw it not too long ago, looked clean and solid to me.
