Last week we were in OkC for the race track rally and leaving town in heavy traffic some guy comes up on us looking at the race car. He asks where we run it since it's an old supermodified, and I gave him a quick 'tutorial' -to which he replied that he used to run them too out at the Fairgrounds.
"Oh really" I asked
"What is your name?
"Mike Allison" he answers
Without slowing down I went "HEY! 199 RED!"
The look of shock that was on his face was priceless-"YEAH! THAT WAS MY NUMBER!"
The light turns green, and that was the end of it.
Guess he didn't know his pics are on RFTP- would have told him but it all happened so fast.

The Hall family have a lot of different classes at 81. Do they decide what to run,is there an association that sets the rules or how is it done? Could somebody At Wichita let us know?

AS FOR 81 SPEEDWAY, I THINK C-RAY HALL DECIDES WHICH CLASSES HE SCHEDULES. IT MOSTLY COMES DOWN TO POPULARITY OF FANS BASE. AROUND WICHITA , SPRINT CARS AND MIDGET RACIN IS SLOWED DOWN A LOT, NOT NEAR AS MANY SPRINT RACER'S AS YEARS AGO, AND MIDGETS NEVER REALLY CAUGHT ON. THE MOST WE CAN HOPE FOR OTHER THAN BI- WEEKLY SHOWS ON SPRINTS IS IF A TRAVELING CIRCUIT LIKE ALL STARS WILL COME BACK HERE TO RACE WITH N.C.R.A , BUT EXPENCES OF TRAVEL KILLS THAT DEAL..... THE DIE HARDS STILL RACE, BUT SOME FOLLOWER'S HAVE GONE FISHIN!!! SOME WITH STAN ON TEXOMA!!!!!!!!

I'll say this , just seen that OCRS series for Champ Sprints just booked a couple of shows at Lawton as of yesterday and I was pretty shocked to see that and now they have some 28 series shows booked in Enid , Wichita ,Ks.,Ft. Smith , Ark.,Lawton , Okla. as well as other venues, now if they could get a show booked at say Cowtown or Devils Bowl then it would remind me of another series that once ran all over Ks. Tx. and Okla.

Although this is not related to the usual 100" or NCRA topics.........(ahem) ........does anyone remember when Gary Mussatto ran the shows at Topeka, etc. he always wore a shirt that had a light blue square sewn on the back? You could look from the stands and pick him out easlily from all the others moving around in the pits. (he rarely stood in one place too long) Was that his intent or did he just like to wear that shirt to the races? I was always going to ask him but he passed before I got the chance.

Did'nt he also own a Sprint Car that would run when the WoO would come through on their Sagebrush Series from Tx. Okla. Ks. back in the late 70's to early 80's ?

Mussatto owned the #28x car, driven over the years by Doug Wolfgang, Randy Smith, Jon Johnson, Mike Peters and others. He also ran the Salt City Speedway (Hutchinson Raceway Park) in the mid 80's. Used to have a outlaw sprint race in the fall called the Wheatshocker Nationals, saw some great races for a couple of years.

Gary E. Mussatto: (1940-2002) Osage City, KS
I believe he was going to get back into sprint cars when he passed away. Chris Morgan was going to be the driver Morgan/Mussato Racing Team I think.

A day like today warm and in the upper 60's tell's me it is close to race season, tired of staring at mine and ready to go see it run somewhere.
Guess even after all the years of doing this , still have anticipation and excitement to see this years version circle the dirt ovals and see how it performs and does.
Gonna be a very different/weird feeling here in about a month when SFS would have started Friday night racing for 2010.

I picked up a Nance Sprint Car Frame this past Sat. and has serial # 2 86 11, Frame is in pretty decent shape except for panhard bar in front of chassis has been removed and the X bracing up front been removed as well ,both can be replaced with no issues. It is a mid rail car. My question is do you read the # as frame was built in Feb. of 86 , is the 11 the 11th car built of that year?, or is it just built and done Feb. 11, 1986. Needs the 3 pc. motor plate and only have the Center piece for the Torque Bell and Collar to bolt up to , got the brake pedal with it and feel fortunate that is still has the Steering mount clamps still with the Chassis. Just Curious about the #'s.

J.D. gary ran a sprinter on a limited basis. one driver i remember was MIKE PETERS. , i remember at one race i was walking thru pits, gary was trying to start a generator, sweat flowing, watched for a couple minutes, finnally said GARY , let me try it. wouldn't ya know it startedon the first pull. gary just stood there with his hands on his hips !!! things just happen that way sometimes.

On average, how many frames would they build a week early in the year?

I had lunch with a friend the other day and we were talking about racing here in Tulsa and what had happened to it. We started talking about the opening race of the 1974 season, that was the year that the new big track wa finished. There were over 13,000 fans in the stands, Benny Taylor in car 13 won the feature and he won $1,300. Who said that 13 was bad luck in racing. We always got to the track early so we didn't have trouble getting in but some friends were running late and they were not admitted, 2,000 people were turned away that night. Those days are gone forever around here.
