Bob Williams lives in the KC area somewhere. There is a Annual Car Show and BBQ at the Laynes Old Autos place at 15130 Lakeport Lane , Smithviile Mo 64089. It is on the North Side of KC by the Airport. It is Sept 20th at 1pm..

I was told that Bob Williams and several of the older KC guys will be around there. And alot of older redone race cars. .Al Weiland may be there if he feels up to it at 96 years of age he is still doing pretty good.. Al owned the 37 and Bob Williams was the driver.in the picture above..

Brian i seen you cliping here of Bob Williams winning the 1970 Ok City Nationals Race.Thought that if anyone was around the KC area that weekend they might want to stop by.They said to bring a lawn chair there is alot to look at.

Great clipping Brian i will see Al Weiland tommorrow and i will share this clipping with him. Tim Belk

Win as if you are use to it.And lose as if you enjoyed
it for a change. Its hard to get to the top and alot
harder to stay there.

Brian - Awsome post! I was there and can remember many nights like this with packed stands! Looking at the results, I would have thought there would have been more Kansas representatives, Reed, Fowler, Copeland, McWhorter... I was a huge Howerton fan and was so pissed when Evard punted him to the wall. Love the "Play Girl Club" add too...what a hoot!!! Wish I still had my old program collection...

No Leep in the results, must have been in the Duece. There was an 8 car pileup early on.

Fast time was Howerton at 23.37 on the 1/2 mile. Williams was 2nd fast at 23.55

1/4 mile fast time was Ron Clark with a 17.33

Leep was out of the duece because he had a broken leg from the OKC crash earlier in the '70 season. Fowler, if I recall, took over for the rest of that year. I just noticed that Howerton, Humphrey etc, weren't in the results either, so I guess if you didn't finish, you weren't listed. Makes sense, I guess since their was that 8 car deal...

Jim, I appreciate the offer and will keep that in mind about the Stealth stuff, really liked that 98 Stealth of mine , always worked well, just never really had a stout power plant for it the 9 years I ran it, just figured it was time to get a downtube and retire it and restore it one day down the road.

Was doing some measuring of an 08 Eagle I purchased here in the last several month and comparing it to the 98 Stealth ,front and rear tube heights and tube split/offsets and both are within a 1/4" or less of one another, both are 86/40 cars and no raised rail , just a standard car of today.

Luther, I could just scan what I want off of here and send the program to you. Wonder if Bob has any programs from this night?

I don't mind giving up a program to such notables.......................

David or Brian, I was looking through my old programs and came to openning night here at Tulsa in 1976 and there were 2 pictures of Aaron Madden's car after he went throught and fence and landed almost next to the grandstand. The car was totally torn up, the cage was bent down and over, was that the Jelly car that Harold drove or was it a different one ?

Bkcr,

That car was the orginial Jelly car that Harold drove for Aaron, Bud bought it for Scott and he raced it for a while then Jeff had it and crashed at Tulsa and broke his leg, while he was repairing it he bought Dale P's #67 4-bar and crashed it in turn 1 and lost his life. Aaron somehow got the Jelly back and that is the car you have pic's of.

Jelly built several of those design chassis Space Frame spring front stacked tube rear with swinging shackles on the rear with wishbones, the were a very nice car, if I'm not mistaken the #24 that Leep, Stone & Woodside drove was the same frame it just had the sprint type body instead of the T-Body.

Brian, great shots of the 70's program, on 1 of those pages there is an ad for Malone Chassis it lists #161,39,1 & 99 as Malone chassis OKC Hank Malone was #99. I'm still lost on who built the #161 4-bar that Wayne Cox drove this ad would indicate OKC Hank and not the other Hank Malone from Chickasha. Can you or Mike get the handle on this??

Jim, wonder if Les could remember how many of those cars he built? I know he built Scott & Shanes #11 & I think he built Gene Scott's #14 that had the square tube cages.

Well, looks like OkC Hank Malone DID build the 161. I hear he still has a shop in OkC, someone needs to get in touch with him.

Tim,

Didn't your dad drive this car also? Seems I remember him winning an A-FEA at OKC on a friday night show. If so was this after Bob drove the car? Seems like I also remember Thad Doisher & Jerry Everhart driving it a few times also. There was another car with the same body style that was from the same area #711 it was blue with white or yellow number's do you remember it?

David, I remember the blue 711 car too. I think that Jerry Everhart drove that car some in 1970. And I think you are correct about Thad in the 37 too, but I can't remember which year.
