To All,
Just walked in from our 2nd get together, all I can say is what a blast, I didn't count heads but I'm guessing around 30 people alot of history setting there tonight!! I would like to think JD,Brian & Jim there the ones that basically got this thread and the meetings started. I would like to think Dutch ter Steege #7,Mike & Bonnie Allison #199,Jerry Schwartz #22,Gary Cole #35,all of the Corvett Center guys,Danny Shouse #27,Joe Woods #03,Jerry Havill #6,Steve Foster #96,Harold Leep Sr. Charley Ford,Cecil Satterwhite,Bobby Kraft,Bill Cunliff,The Rushings,Mike Montoboy,Shane Carson and everybody who I've missed, it was a great fun get together, I hope we can do another soon!!!!

David,
I had a great time last night, I want to thank you, JD and Brian for including me in your family of racing. Last night brought some great memories that I still have. Going to the races at the fairgrounds on Friday night was special, even after the races driving back to Lawton in my 1967 Camaro which I still have and listening to Bill Mack "The Midnight Cowboy" on WBAP. Thanks once again. Sorry to hear of Roy Bryant's passing. This is why we need to keep the past alive so we never forget. JD was there a third page about the Wayne Cox article?
Mike

Sleep, sleep, muuuuusssttttttt sleeeeep!
Pics first!
These guys figured out long ago that the more laps you lead, the fewer tearoffs you'll need.
How many NCRA championships are there between these guys?

There was so much going on in the room, I had a heck of a time keeping up with the list of who's who! I can tell you this, every single facet of the 6-cylinder persuasion is represented here. Moly or water pipe frame, precision built racing engine or Grandpas old farm truck motor- these guys would convince every mad-hornet in the county not to invade their territory.
From left, as best I can
Allen Crawford, Shane Carson, Need help here, Cecil Satterwhite(in back),John Stewart(front), Jerry Swartz(back), Gary Cole, need help, need help, Dutch Ter Steege, Bill Cundiff.

Not many of us even knew what happened to this man. He's playing a lot of golf these days, but back in his heyd....ahem.....other heyday, he drove a distinct supermodified and let you know he meant business. According to his son, he was firm believer in leaving the peanuts and green anything AT HOME. Steve Foster.

If their not involved in racing today, they inspire someone who is. There are more out there that have yet to make these gatherings. This is a "no quarter" group and a prime example of why this part of the country can stand on it's own history without charity.
Looks like a bigger room is going to be needed when it's time to do it again.

These get togethers look like a great time. For us furr-i-ners, all the names you can put with the pics sure help. Great to put faces with some of the names from this site. One of the above is identified, one head of hair looks familiar from 30 years ago, but the other fellow is nameless for now.
Almost to a person, you can still see that "look" in the eyes of all who attended.
Love your lead-in to this pic, Brian....sort of like that one about being the lead dog pulling a sled....

The man on the left is the one I didn't get to talk to. I know I've heard his name for years, but I just can't recall it at this moment. Shane Carson(middle) and of course Harold Leep. Recognize that wheel? It's the very wheel on this car, now autographed,

To All'
Behind Shorty is Mike Allison who drove the Red & Yellow #199 Modified & Super Modified, In the Red Shirt is Danny Shouse who drove the Yellow & Blue #27 Modified & Super Modified, next is Jerry Havill who drove the Red & Yellow #6 Modified & Super Modified.
In your NCRA Championship pic Jerry Havill is standing behind Shane, he is the only 2-Time NCRA 6 Cylinder Modified Champion.
Great Turn Out!!!

These pictures don't really do justice, those guys were waiting for me to figure out that camera.
I saw stuff I'd never seen before. In the last 2 weeks I've seen drivers/car owners/head wrenches that have turned a wheel, dollar,and/or wrench with the best of them out there. Hall of Famers standing along side pipe frame guys agreeing at what a blast they had.
This is truly one of those deals where the DRAW is the audience itself. Unreal the things they have done, are doing, and will be doing.
David, I'll be wanting your signature on that wheel too since Pat isn't with us. I'm just a caretaker , hard to say I own it. I know you weren't on that team, but I'm certain Pat would have you sign for it if he wasn't in the shop at the moment.
Turns out I'm not the only guy who likes a magnesium wheel in the living room! There's quite a few out there doing it!

I got the scoop on "Hollywood" Jett Starr. I lettered all of his cars and even the 3+3 tow truck. Jet was sponsored by Dagwell Dixie, his dad Alan owns it, and his brother Drug I mean Doug was in charge of Race Operations. lol
The funniest thing about that is Doug would do all the set up in the shop (like he knew what he was doing) and would never come to the track. I think I saw Doug at the track maybe two times the whole time Jett drove. I would be down at Dagwell Dixie lettering his car and more than once when the parts delivery kid that worked for them would back up to the door and unload a new or freshened motor from Louis Boyd. The first thing Doug would do is mount it up to the engine stand and start tearing it apart. Guess he had some speed secrets Louis didn't know about.
Anyway I started calling him "Hollywood" around his shop and he liked it so much he started going by "Hollywood" Jett Starr. All of his cars were blue, the first one I lettered was #96, then he went to #74.
There was some controversy after I lettered the 100.5 KATT car. He was not sponsored by them and was told he would have to remove anything related to KATT radio, but since his mother had holdings with the company that owned the radio station they came out with an agreement. He never would say how much it cost him to run that on his car.
I will say though his dad Alan at Dagwell Dixie is one of the nicest guys you would ever want to meet.

Hey uncle a,
I thought it was the Dagwell Dixie car. I used to buy belts and bearings from them. I worked around the corner from them at Hart Industrial Supply. I can remember the car being there.
Are you still doing some lettering? Did you ever do any other painting, or just lettering?

Hey, TW
Not doing to much lettering anymore since it's pretty much all vinyl these days. I did do some paint jobs on race cars, nothing to fancy though. If the paint job could stand some dust, bugs, or runs in it I could do it.
I only had a 4" house brush and a 9" roller for that kind of work. lol

Yes, but don't you have any remorse for the setback you have dealt these recovering addicts?? LOL
In all seriousness, I hope this is only the beginning. I am almost 60, but if I had been in the crowd, I would have been pestering people to sign a program, picture or t shirt.

Just wanted to thank you and JD for puting this together, and Allen for letting me know about it. Harold and I were talking on the way back up here and we both enjoyed seeing everyone and getting to visit. Keep me posted on future get togethers and maybe we can make it for another one.

Steve,
It was a great pleasure having you there, guys like you are a big part of what this is about!! I hope you will be able to come again you're always welcome and you can bring all the old racers that you can find. I talked to Gary Flatt (David Jr's son) today he is working out of state and couldn't come this time but thought it was neat that you and Harold showed up, he watched you race at Enid alot back in the day!!
