Speaking of Corvette Center, early 70's, the Corvette Center Chev van was parked going into turn # 1 at the end of the front straight. Aaron Madden was coming out of turn 4, lost his right rear, that right rear made a perfect bee-line, down the front straight, bouncing. Every body in the place could see this coming, it was like slow motion, guy sitting in the van jumps out, the tire bounces just perfectly, goes right through the windshield of the van, & if I remember right went right out the back door!
John, I do remember the night you got trapped in your super in turn 4, we had to wait for the OKC fire truck to bring the jaws of life to get that bar off your leg. What a mess. Sorry so many of my memories were from when people crashed, but I was with the track saftey crew so long, well, it was bound to happen.
Like David though, so many memories & friendships over the years that I wouldn't trade for any amount. Been my pleasure racing & being involed with this deal for the last 40 years! More later, Jim.

That was my uncle driving the van that night. Actually, my dad didn't even know it was out there. I remember Charlie coming to the door that night and telling my dad to come outside he had somthing to show him, SUPRISE! Mark Moseley and Bob Billups (owner of the Larry Dewell #112) were in there too. Charlie and Bob bailed out, but Mark was trapped in the back. I think the tire was wedged in the front? Anyway, the van was soon repaired and continued on as a push truck for a few more years. (I have several Cor Vett Center pics along with the van that I will try and post soon)
I remember making the warm up lap before my crash thinking this track isn't really ironed out to well. Low and behold we are going for the green and Frizzel gets up in the greasy part of the track and goes airborn. I hit him straight on, wide open and it was lights out from then on. I woke up strapped to a back board, on oxygen, an IV started, I almost cut my tongue in half, broken ribs, concussion, real fun stuff! I do remember the noise of the Jaws of Life, I think thats what woke me up. Anyway, the car was pretty wasted, but dad took it back to Nance's and they made the necessary repairs and I went on to race it about a dozen times the next season. It was later sold to Ronnie Thompson who ran it on the 1/4 mile. Still miss drivin' that thing on a fast tacky track, it handled like a slot car when the conditions were right!
Agreed, wouldn't trade those times/memories for anything!

Here is an interesting point, this is a photo that is on one of my programs from Lawton Speedway 1964. The note on the bottom of the program reads, "This racer built at a cost of over $5,000 by C.J. Bichsel Amarillo Texas, sponsored by Plains Chevrolet Co. Amarillo". It was painted gold and I think if you look at the photo above this one this could be the same car that the Avant Brothers ran during 1968-1973. Does anyone have any more photos of this car or the Avant #63. Also does anyone have a copy of the Plains Chevrolet logo that had the cartoon of a cowboy head on it. This was a beautiful car.

He'll get in touch with you, I know he wants to know what you know about it, and of course a lot of other history. He's met you before but he was so busy he couldn't stay long. Right now his phone is so busy, he might be leaving it in his truck! Spend a day with him and you'll see what I mean.
No slight against you.

This model kit is originally produced by Linburgh Model Company during the early 1960's, first kits were molded in almost the same color on the model you posted. They re-issued this kit and called it The White Lightnin' Racer. It was molded in white. I found a source that you can buy a double kit of this car and another car released at the same time during the early 1960's called The Red Devil Racer. Same story on this car too, except it was molded in red and the re-issued car was molded in black. The source where you can buy this double kit is www.modelroundup.com

Yes these were somehow inspired by the body style. I just have no idea as to where this style came from. Parnelli Jones had a super in the late 50's very similar to these bodies, but not exact. That picture of the model tells me that whomever made the mold had seen these bodystyles. I once had a friction toy with a bodystyle like this too. The only one I ever saw.

To All,
A story for your NY enjoyment, When I bought the #2 White Jelly car from Leep we brought it home and started rebuilding it for Lyndon,we had Richardson in Wellington KS. build an engine that was supposed to be nice but it blew up on the 2nd night, we rebuilt it and still it blew up again so I was broke, so Lyndon bought Shot's #94 and ran it. I helped him and worked on a couple of other cars until I could get some money together and build another engine, Bob Brotherton built it and my brother in law at the time Charles Jarvis started driving it some, while we weren't racing I had changed the steering arms on the front to some aluminum arms but didn't pay attention to the length of bolts that I used and the 1st night Charles drove it going down the back straight at OKC in the B-Fea the bolts pulled out of the RF arm and Charles went straight into the 3rd turn fence. It ruined the frt axle and knocked the RF shock tower off, took a couple of weeks to fix everything and started running I-35 SPDY some finally winning an A-FEA. we went to Lawton a couple of times but didn't do any good so decided to try out the big Tulsa track, surprisingly we won our heat the 1st night there and finished the A-FEA. so we decided Tulsa it was. Ran there for about 6 wks straight won a B-FEA. and made the A-FEA every night, on the 2nd to last night we ran good in the heat 2nd didn't run the dash and started 4th in the A-FEA. ol Charles was up on the wheel and charged right into the lead about 1/2 way through we were over a straight ahead and I was starting to count the money, on the 16th lap there was a yellow but I thought we would still win because we were fairly fast and had 3 lapped cars between us and Crawford and Hahn 3rd, on the restart Charles pulled out 4-5 car lengths and looked good until he came around on the 18th lap, Charles had ran the whole race on the top right against the fence but I guess he could hear Emmitt and Ray right behind him and he moved down into the middle of the track where it was slick as snot and Emmitt drove by on the outside the slipstream pulled that Charles around twice and when he was headed in the right direction we were 10th and finished there. Man I was sick I already had that money spent on a new RR and a set of heads but we went home eating Taco's instead of STEAKS!!! The next week we blew up in the heat race and were done racing at Tulsa for the year. Jack Davis and I took the motor apart and were able to bum a few parts from the old man and put it back together and ran the Winter Nationals at OKC that was the 1st night I believe MP drove for Hill in the #11 that DE had drove that season, this would be my 1st official meeting with MP and it was spectacular but that's a whole other story, I'm sure Jim will remember it!!!

Brian,
This is the orginial #67 Parson single rail springer, it was Dale's 1st house car, David Jones dad Gene bought it and several differant guy's drove it, Dale Reed in this pic, I also believe Jay Woodside drove it a few times also. If I remember right Dale told me this car was welded with stick rod, I know it went to Tulsa and at some point Big Jack drove it as car #4, I don't know what became of it but if anybody has an idea I'm sure Kim Parson would be interested!! The frame design would be very close to Randy & Kyles #6 or Cody's #43 springer, David might remember some of the guys that worked on it back then Roy "DOC" Scott, Jack Davis, David's brother's Skeeter & Robert, Jerry Scott & a couple of other's. Gene owned the DX station on NW Highway & Council this was back in the day when Gas Station's did everthing and you could make enough money to support a deal like this.

interesting story about the wheel off aron maddan's racer!!! in the mid 1960's at hutchinson fair grounds track, a wheel came off a 100 in car on the front strait, rolled into turn one, jumped the fence, and lit in a mercury convertable parked just outside the fence.
