All,

Had the pleasure of having lunch with Jim & John Stewart from the old Corvette Center shop on wednesday, John has built a model of the '86 Gambler Champ Car that Shane ran in NCRA and local weekly shows, this car won the '86 NCRA Championship & the '86 USAC/NCRA race at OKC. Shane & I meet Jim & John at the coney island hot dog shop in capitol hill for lunch then went to John's house to see the model, he did an excellent job on it the detail was very good all lettering and decals were perfect!! John also has a model of the old Corvette Center Van and the #112 Corvette Center Super Modified that Larry Dewell drove that looks really great also. Jim has alot of history of the old super days and he and John have indicated they would like to come when we get together again, I know John would like to meet Mike and talk to him about all of his models.

There is one other modeler out there that is pretty good at it too. He should be in town right now.

I'm a modeler too, I just happened to get into 1:1 scale.

Thanks David. We too had a good time meeting with you and Shane (I think even my girls got a kick out of it). FYI, I have a bunch of pictures from the Cor Vett Center that I'm planning to sort out and put in a photo album. There are some in there of Shanes 12$, Shouse's 27 and Wooley's 23 all parked out front to promote a Mar-Car WoO race BITD. Look forward to the next time!

Terry Sanderson from the OKC area at one time had this open wheel model web site. http://groups.yahoo.com/group/open-wheel-models/

David,

I know Todd and John and I think that is Gary (cant remember last name) in the background and I thought that was Pat's daughter in front. Man I really enjoy reliving some of this stuff. I guess that's what happens as we get older. Great memories and a lot of friends. I enjoy checking on you guys and your pictures every few days, I just wish I knew who everybody was and I hope someday to get together with Shane and you guys. I had breakfast with Woody the other day and he's been gettin a kick out of this thread also. Keep it goin!

Mike Monotoboy had that shot. I remembered you noticed it when we had the get-together. There was so much information going around that table, it was hard to let it all sink in.

John,

I believe your right, I know that is Jim Chestnut in the other firesuit, Jim's brother Ernie is the other official standing there looking at the guy in shorts, it does look alot like Bobby behind Jim & Ernie. It was during Firecracker Nationals, if I remember right Stone won and Shane ran 2nd this would have been in '84 as Shane was driving the Rich car. I know this much that TA left the house in a split second, he was on the track then in the parking lot!!!

That crash was in 1984 and I remember runnin about 3rd or 4th at the time late in the race. We were catchin Stone and arching the front straight almost out to the grandstand fence gettin a good entrance to turn 1 by just missin the end of the guard rail that starts right there. The car skated a bit more that lap and I caught my right rear on the end of the fence, the light pole took the wing and it took off. When it stopped, I could here people screaming but I couldn't see. The thing spun so hard all the blood went to my head and I think it was 20 minutes or so before I could see and then it was the next day before I didn't feel like I was wearing red sunglasses. I don't think it seriously hurt anybody outside the fence but I remember a few went to the hospital.

By looking at old pictures,it always seems in those days that whenever or wherever Wahoo was, there was a party going on!

TA,

I remember you left quick we were all worried about you, it hit that guard rail I heard a bang and you were gone. Man what a time to be racing it was tough lots of rivalrey, we all worked our ass's off to beat the other guy, thats something I really miss now even though I'm still racing it's just not the same deal, as Jim says to many kids with credit cards that don't know squat!! I can tell you I will always charish the years '74 thru '87 and I wouldn't trade that time in my life for any amount of money or material!!!!

You ever here anything about Mr Bill & Lela anymore??? Ihaven't heard anything about them in a couple of years!! I had a big surprise this summer when I ran into my old friend Lyndon Moss man that was great I hadn't seen him in about 10yrs and he hasn't changed abit, he came by my shop just the other day and picked up an old Ford tractor that he needed for parts for 1 that he is restoring, we had a good time just sat and talked for about 2 hrs (PRICELESS)

Tell Woody I said hi and hope he is doing well!!

Yeah, I've never seen anything like that since. As mentioned, my uncle had the Cor Vett Center pace car parked back by the fence in turn one and he saw you fly over his head and heard all the screaming out in the parking lot. Do you still do any lettering? I remember coming to Tulsa with the Wooleys and you lettered some wings and Greg's van. Good seeing you on here.

Thanks, it always neat to have names with some of the old photos.

One of the Flatt or Suchy girls worked out at Love Box in the shipping and receiving.

on Rockwell. In the winter she always wore a ORA Black jacket. One day I was so curious I asked who she was. Never really got to talk to her about racing.

Speaking of Corvette Center, early 70's, the Corvette Center Chev van was parked going into turn # 1 at the end of the front straight. Aaron Madden was coming out of turn 4, lost his right rear, that right rear made a perfect bee-line, down the front straight, bouncing. Every body in the place could see this coming, it was like slow motion, guy sitting in the van jumps out, the tire bounces just perfectly, goes right through the windshield of the van, & if I remember right went right out the back door!

John, I do remember the night you got trapped in your super in turn 4, we had to wait for the OKC fire truck to bring the jaws of life to get that bar off your leg. What a mess. Sorry so many of my memories were from when people crashed, but I was with the track saftey crew so long, well, it was bound to happen.

Like David though, so many memories & friendships over the years that I wouldn't trade for any amount. Been my pleasure racing & being involed with this deal for the last 40 years! More later, Jim.

Jim,

Remember this happening, and Aaron couldn't have aimed that tire at that van any better, I also remember Don Neher Losing a RR tire that went out into May Ave, I remember as a kid also Grady's uncle getting killed by that tire that went into the 1/2 mile pits at the time we didn't know in the stands that somebody was hurt that seriously, I also remember Tommy Coker losing a RR jalony going down the front stretch at OKC it veried off into the infield going into turn 1, the Mar-Car official (DON'T KNOW WHO HE WAS) ran up to kick the tire over and his foot went into the wheel and flipped him about 3-4 times I don't know why it didn't break his leg!!! Jim didn't somebody lose a RR once and it went over to the Coke Plant??
