I guess this one comes from Mike and a good friend everyone called "Cannonball". Anybody know a Cannonball?

Looks like Jerry Stone is ready to launch

I agree on a Friday or Saturday night , I might be wrong but I would bet this get together would last a while. Any ideas on a place ?, maybe that had a side room to get a bite of food and talk and the place would not mind it . OKC,Midwest City, Mustang,Norman, not real sure what would be the best for the majority?

I would have questions to ask that is for sure about stuff I often wondered about and why it went the way it did and how it all worked back then, from just racin to tunin on the cars back then, I would expect to be enlightened by this get together.

I'll throw out the first suggestion for a place Round Up Pizza on 29th in MWC , eat there often ,Buffet Style and it's cheap and good, they got Pizza, Chk. Mojo Potatoes, Salad, and they have a side room in the back of the place , could check on it and see if they charge or could just reserve a table or 2 for us on the night we plan it, but hey I am open to anyplace, just my suggestion.

JD, I think the Round-Up Pizza would be fine, pizza is race food remember going to Shotgun Sams or Nicholous on many of Friday nights after races!!!! I have to go to Akron on the 19th but will be back on the 21st. I'll try to get Shane rounded up also.

Pizza & a cold beer just goes with racin stories. All we need is a date! Count me in & let me know what to bring & I'll be there.

Dec. issue of Flat-Out. Have you guys seen it? Just maybe Bob Mays is sneakin a peek, his column this month was on the Hutch race, 1983' Stone vs. Leep. Leep won. Really good stuff, ya gotta see it.

Picture today is Wallace Collins from 1971. wallace was just another local guy who wanted to race & put on a show. Yellow # 40.

Also, the bad news that Darrell Wooley passed, we're losin all our older guys. We gotta keep OKC area racing history alive boys.

Jim,

Hate to hear about Wooley when did he pass? Had he been having health issues lately I know he had issues in the past but hadn't heard anything about his health lately.

Wallace was quite a guy and if you didn't have his Headers on your 6 banger you were out to lunch, I always thought it was neat that little plate tacked to the header that said Wallace Collins. I've often wondered if Lynn Collins was any relation, if I remember right didn't Wallace run a Ford 6 cyl for a while I remember Gerald Aterberry ran a Ford and it was pretty strong.

Haven't seen the issue of Flat Out but I was there and the only thing that happened to Jerry Stone that day was an old guy still had a sack full and just flat out drove Stoney into 3&4 that #70 car was just a decient piece but as you know Harold could carry a car, it was a great finish.

Brian,

Good shot of the old mans car, was this shot from Lawton or Whicita Falls maybe. That's Roger the Dodger standing by RF tire with GDYR hat on, Charley Good is in white coveralls cut half into on Rogers right, I know the guy on Rogers left but can't pull his name out, Jim can you refresh my memory? Walker's Plunkett Tile car next to the #76.

Brian,

In this pic is the #65 Carl Wyatt/James Skinner car, this car and I also have a little history, Tony Pressley bought this car and ran it part of 1 season then I helped him rebuild it made alot of changes to it coil/overs on the front and took the automatic out and went to crowerglide and in-out box, he ran it that season then over the winter I rebuilt it changing a lot of things put a sprint tank on it and a Nance hood revamped the coil/overs on the front then went to the old mans and drilled all of those bolts out, Tony had Buddy Rice build him a nice engine, the car was light for those days about 1500# and on the first night out at OKC one of those steering arm bolts that I had drilled out broke on the RF and he powdered the wall off turn 2 flipping down the back stretch landing in the infield going into turn 3, Tony spent 3 days in St Anthonys after that one, if ever a guy owed me an ass kick'in and I would take it is Tony, the old man told me that your drilling to big a hole in those bolts but my hard headed ass wouldn't listen and it caused Tony to bust his ass!!!

Did Steve Young drive the #23 in this pic?

Brian,

This is Dale Loopers car and it was good looking, this is probably the race where Dale's dad and Gilbert duked it out over a parking spot that I've posted about previously, that's James in the back ground next to his car, the back of that blue Dodge van on the right is mine. Oh yeh Gilbert got his spot!!!

Interesting picture David. Notice the car next to it is the Brake-O car that McElreath Jr. drove. had to be what 73' or 74' ? This is good stuff, keep it coming.

Thought I would chime in on this one, the 24 Jelly Car is now I believe in Wisconsin or Minnesota , unless the gentlemen who I cannot remember his name has sold it, he emailed me a while back asking me if I knew anyone who would be interested in that part of the country since that is where the car ran, He bought the car from Paul Martens in Fairview I believe and he seen pics of it on Warren's site and emailed me about it and I got pics of the car without the hood and a close up of the motor and inside the the drivers compartment as well as a bunch of other cars , like I said at 12 to 14 yrs. of age was curious how these cars worked so what better way to learn than to take a pic and try to study it and now I am glad I did that , it seemed to have helped him with the car plus got pics of the hot pieces that were run back then , the in/out boxes and all that.

That 90 car of Dale Looper from Dallas came up to Lawton some , notice in the back ground is James Mclreaths car Blue in color and I believe that is James walking with the hat on behind it. I heard Lanny Edwards say back at Lawton in the 70's to us one Sat. night after James had come to Lawton and just dominated the A main, that with his name and talent James would be one of the greatest racers to come out of this area. But that was not meant to be and how about that pic with the sun high up in the sky, an actual day race at Lawton Speedway, sure miss those day races on a Sunday afternoon, I was at Lawton practice last March on a sunday afternoon and I believe that is the first time I have been to Lawton to watch a race car run in the middle of the day since back in the 70's

Yes David the 23 is Steve Young car and the Modified by it is Dwayne Howell who ran his dad Buddy Howell Modified at Lawton for many years and even tried the Super Modifieds for the last years they were in existence at Lawton with not much success in that class but had pretty good success in the Modifieds as I remember , I believe they were from Waurika,Ok. , Heck now Dwayne son Chad Howell from Waurika runs a USA Modifed at Lawton still, Superman32 knows him as he was a teammate to him for one season in a sprint car back 6 or 7 yrs. ago.

The beige/tan car on the other side of the 49 looks like Jackie Ashlocks car , I know it was Orange with a blue 4 for a long time but I thought he changed it one year.

I remember the blue 7 in the far background and just cannot remeber who drove the car and the 1 car on the other side of it , is that Aaron Maddens car?, and the car on the other side of it looks like the 25 car of Doran Raine from Iowa Park , Tx. reason I say this is Doran, Is that this pic was taken from the Grandstands on the south end looking towards the pit gate entrance at Lawton and I remember Johnnie Stinnet use to get pissed at Doran for parking in his spot right next to the pit gate entrance as Johnnie needed to be close to the light pole for an electrical outlet for his battery charger, remember Johnnie telling me that story one time, Always wondered why Johnnie just did not go buy a longer extension cord.

Sure miss parking up by the entrance to the pit area , dam sure more convienant but I guess you can't push them off in that small of a push off area but sure miss pitting over there.

Jim , I read Bob Mays column and thought it was really a nice write up about that Hutch race.

Brian , Was looking at pics last night and kind of got side tracked by many programs from the mid 70;s and to the late 80's that i have stashed in a cabinet for preservation(but will stay at it) and got to looking at all the pts. standings and names and was pretty amazing Bubs Fenner #67 American flag colored car and I.L. Smith #63 from Burkburnett, Tx. and Tommy Sims who ran a Super Mod only one year and quit and went back to Factory Stocks and then Late Models and heck i see him adveritising in Papers down at Lawton now, he is now a Lawyer.

David , I can talk to the guy at Round Up this week and see if they would reserve a table or 2 for us in that back room if you all would like that place?, just let me know, as for the date , how about the 22nd then or ?.

Man looking through those old pics and programs just never gets old.

All of these pics are from Mike Monatoboy. Thankfully he has hoarded them all these years. Some were taken from other photogs, some his own. Jim Hysaw took quite a few of these.

Believe me, there are many more to come.
