Hey all, just wondering if any of the speedway tracks in Hawaii are
still running. I'm heading there in April from Australia and would like
to see racing there if possible. Unfortunately my ticket won't take me
to the West Coast. Any help would be super!
Cheers!

There was a track in Ewa Beach in the Campbell industrial park but the last I heard there lease for there dirt track, drag strip and road course wasnt renewed cause the land was worth more as building space. For those who remeber this was the track the Usac regional group from the southwest visited twice and raced against there locals. Dean Frutias and Dennis Knob were some of the local Hawaiians that showed the main landers how to wheel a car on there home turf. Now when I was there they were suppose to have a track on the big island. I never got to see or research that one bit. I do know though there was a Maxim dealer in the state of Hawaii you may track down there open tracks through there.

I covered two races there the week of 9/11 and the next weekend, back in 2001. I was told last week by 'ol'hippie' who raced there those weekends that the main track on Oahu on the outskirts of Honolulu is now closed, sadly. They ran sprints, a type of old 'big car' like those from the good ol' days and a few other classes. Had a great time with a bunch of fun people, a trip I'll never forget. Take It Easy.....

In the latest National Speedway Directory, it lists 1 oval track on Hilo and 3 dragstrips. Oval track phone number is 808.959.3361

Aloha from sunny and warm Hawaii,
We here in Honolulu have been without any racetrack (dirt oval, dragstrip, or road course) for over two years now. We've been to the City & County and the State for help in trying to get a track here again. The outer islands have dragstrips and Hilo has the only other dirt oval.
Here on Oahu, we should be up and running again with a temp dirt track by mid-summer. Will post up more info as the time comes near. Or you can email me at [email protected] for more info.
Mike
P.S. The street racing problem is getting out of hand here with the younger crowd. We are still looking for developers for a permanent racetrack here.

Dean Freitas raced a few times in Northern Calif. and Southern Oregon last year. He won a 360 main in Chico on May 26th. He keeps his car in the Bay Area. He is the first native of Hawaii to win a main event at the Silver Dollar Speedway.

Looks like you won't be seeing any speedway on your honeymoon after all Schnitzel. You might have to stop for a few days in Sydney on the way back.
The wife will be pleased anyway...

fast and furious drifting fags. can't stand those punks. My uncle pulled a nice one. He lives down in Texas and said that every friday and staurday they have that same "problem". right on a stretch of road his house sits on unfortunately. so after long time of having problem - and city and county doin' nothin bout it. and after council meetings got his propert vandalized by what was probably the same lil shits. after becoming reluctantly educated with their routine - kinda took vengeful matters into his own hands. During the first few hours when they would all meet and get bent - he had devised what amounted to a homemade "spike strip". yeah put that sucker down and got 8 of em. turns out most the lil punks were rich kids with conservative minded parents (imagine that.......) - as they tried a bunch of legal stuff against my unc. of course none of it stuck - but nonetheless - I guess the parents felt that their lil' "drifting investments" on their offspring with their hard-earned money were good ones. as these idiots really petitioned all sorts of congressmen and stuff to make it legal in that particular area. that was about 6 months ago - haven;t heard anything else bout it since.
but yeah I can't stand those little bastards. When in fortuitous positions of passing by will throw objects..............

My racing trips were over when i bought a house just before visiting in 2006. Yes it is my honeymoon, hence why i am trying to find some racing while i am there, could be a few years before i get back to the US to see some real racing!
