I figured I'd see something here on them dumping the Ford powerplant.

Maybe with Tony's association with Dodge we'll now see a Mopar under the hood..

Weekend predictions for the 15:
Both nights will qualify poor enough to miss the first row of his heat (likely the 2nd row too). Maybe one B-main appearance. A 12th place and a top-10 finish in the features.
Everyone wants to talk about the motor because of the stickers on the car, but the 15 slowed down when Ricky Warner left TSR and its as simple as that.

I'm a "Ford guy" in real life, but it seems to me Schatz started losing as soon as he went to the Ford
We'll see....

And I disagree with all of you. He slowed down when he left his prime and about 20 other guys hit theirs. I, for one, don't believe Donny would have 15 or 16 Knoxville Nationals if Ricky Warner and Chevy were still there. I believe the reason Donny doesn't have 15 or 16 Nationals is because David Gravel, Brad Sweet, and Kyle Larson hit their primes when Donny started to move out of his.
JMO though. If Donny wins 20-25 races, and storms to the top of the points race, I'll eat crow. (Strawser, you have to as well because RW is not coming back.)

I don't care if it is a Chevy, Dodge or Ford - if the car doesn't handle better they will get the same results!
Let's go Sprint Car Racing!
Knoxville - Best Track In the USA!
Eldora - 2nd Best Track in the USA!

The car handles great. He passed double the amount of cars last season of anyone else on the tour. Literally.

Yep and like I said I don't care what engine you have you need a good handling car! Not saying his car was great last year but it was better than this year so far!

egras, did I see here resently that you are 51. If so you shouldn't let the old man in so easily. I will be 70 in coulple of weeks and am not near what I used to be but sure as hell haven't given up yet. I don't know what Donny's problem is but he is still at an age where he should be winning races with experience. Maybe not as many as he once did. If he is passing a lot of cars that is experience. I am pretty sure he stilll has enough in him to run two hard laps to quailfy if the car is able. Some guys never time well but he knew how and I am pretty sure he hasn't forgotten yet.

You will not have to worry about him winning 20 races in a year without Ricky. Take that to the bank! If he would there would have to be some defectors to the HL for that to happen!

I haven't given up either.
But:
I had perfect eyesight at 40. Straight to bifocals at 42 and 2 new prescriptions since
I could park a 20' long truck into a 21' parking spot with my eyes closed. Now I'll hit the car in front, behind, and scrape the curb. (Not for real, but you get the picture)
I grew up on a farm and could back any piece of equipment in any building in one fell swoop. Now, I have to back up, pull forward, correct, back up, get out, look, pull forward, correct, and back up. My dad was the same. The guy could back a hay baler with a hayrack attached into a shed straight as an arrow in 10 seconds without any corrections. Now, he backs his car into the side of the garage.
5 years ago, I worked out 5 days per week. Walked, rode elliptical, or walked miles and miles. Now, I cannot go to the mailbox because I have been informed I need a new hip due to bone-on-bone osteoporosis and my back goes out 2 or 3 times per year.
Now, all of the activities I spoke of, are at 20 mph or less. Now imagine going through the changes I, and please admit you, went through in your 40's and tell me you'd be just as sharp and capable of reacting in a sprint car. No way. I don't want him to mail it in, because he's still amongst the top-20 drivers in the world IMO. However, that number is going to keep getting bigger as the years go on. There's no way to stop it. So what is the cutoff? You tell me you'll be 70. You don't think that if Donny teams up with Ricky again, in a Chevy, that he'll be winning 30 races at 70, do you? I know you don't, but you get my point. He's going to slow up, and it's not going to be instant. It's going to happen over a decade or so. Kinser and Sammy did, but they were just a bit later. Other guys slowed much earlier in their careers. Everyone's different. Donny's a badass. But there's a lot of badasses more badass right now because they're in their prime.

You're right. Last year Ricky Warner was with Rico. Why didn't Rico win everything in sight?

Spot on egra. Father Time hits all of us at different ages. How Sammy can get around the track at his age and is still somewhat competitive, is amazing. How about Kramer Williamson or some of these other guys in their 70's that could drive fast (Red Farmer, Dave Marcis, Herschel McGriff)? Amazing. Combine Donny aging with changes in his personal life - divorce, kids getting older, his father passing and assuming more responsibility at work, I'm surprised he hasn't hung it up to focus on other things. Enjoy the time he is around. As a Kinser fan, I still miss seeing him on the track when I go see a WoO show.

You grew up a farm boy. The problem is you quit it for something else. If you had kept it up I suspect you would still be able to back up farm equipment. I have not quit yet and still do it. I just don't run up to the tractor and just jump on like I have springs in my feet. Donny has not quit so I suspect he is the same. I know his reaction time is not as fast but that is where the experience comes in. Even though he may be slower he likely sees what he is going have to do sooner As is said old lions don't die of old age the get killed by younger lions. So yes donny's time is coming I just don't think it is here yet. I think it at least as much the car as him. And no, I don't think he will win thirty in a year again.
