The 18 year old phenom comes from the 8th spot for the win. A classic battle with Sweet was nothing but slicing and dicing and HAMMAH DOWN!!! Sweet started from the front and gave Corey a nose every now and then. The way Corey ran the berm in one and two then rocketed away from the field like a slingshot, taking it to the bottom in three and four. Sweet got excited and finally put it in the wall coming out of four...50 car count running first half on Thursday, second 25 tonight, stay tuned... Corey Day Shines In Gold Cup Opener - SPEED SPORT

I just hope that he gets a Larson-esque NASCAR deal that allows him to continue racing sprint cars.

That was by far the weakest field of cars I've ever seen for a Gold Cup perlim night.

To be fair it was kind of weak last year too with the split fields. This attempt to make the Gold Cup back into Knoxville West is admirable but without alot of outsiders willing to make the trek, you're left with the cars following the series plus California cars which can be competitive but when you split the field, it really dilutes the quality.

I have been atending Gold Cup since 1999 and even moved here for the great track and racing Have to agree with you
on the format. Two groups are going for the dash on Saturday, no dash last night. But, I must say that the racing between Day and Sweet was nothing short of epic. Day was unstoppable to the tune of Brad crashing out in turn four with about 5 to go just overdriving to try and catch him. Tonights show, fRIDAYwill be just as good IMO...
