My neighbor Luke Nellis attempted to make his first 410 start at Husets last night. He set quick time on lap one and broke the driveline and couldn't complete his second lap. Quick time held up but they couldn't make repairs. Not a bad start having speed the first night. Now if they'd just start making Ford motors available. He has a Ford dealer up in North Branch as a sponsor that would like to see one in the car. The Husets season is going to be fun to watch with two local drivers in the 410's.

They plan on running the entire season at Husets, some IRA and nearby World of Outlaws shows.  I believe the schedule includes a night or two at Knoxville but not the Nationals this year.  He started in winged Karts, ran a Micro, UMSS non-wing and wing and ran for ROY with Husets 305's.  The neat thing about it is that he's running his own team.  His parents are teachers and helped him get a modest start but he had to build on that.  This wasn't a deal where they parents bought top notch equipment and took him out to tour the country at fifteen.  Being responsible for the race team makes one think twice about tearing up equipment and I see that in his driving style.  I see the day to day side of things and am impressed with they way they're taking their time and doing it right.

Congrats on having a racer for a neighbor!

This is kind of a normal thing in Forest Lake dating back to the 1962 Nationals winner Jerry Richert.  His son Jerry Jr. still lives nearby and raced for over thirty years.  We've got Brooke Tatnell up on third lake and his son Garrett running Karts and dabbling in Micros.  Pat Donahue isn't far from us over in Lino and the Koubas and Ryan Bowers are making some starts in the 199.  I used to hang around with a camera and notepad and still see them around town and at the tracks when I manage to get there.  Jerry Sr. drove an old modified my uncle and cousin wrenched on way back in 1960.  It's something I've been around for over sixty years and I keep coming back for more.
