Jerry Evans custom built the #118 car to Chili Bowl specifications several years ago and it has been a fan favorite for several years.  It is light weight and has a Kawasaki engine and driven by Scott Evans.  With less than a month before the race the Chili Bowl has informed Jerry that they are not allowing him to enter the car this year.   He has been disqualified.   Less than a month away.  That certainly doesn't give him enough time to get another car together.   In my opinion - that stinks.

Yeah thats pretty short notice to get a ride together. Did the car/engine combo compete at the CB before? What was the reason for the DQ?

He is now listed in the current entries with a #116 with a Ford engine.

So its the same chassis now with a Ford engine? Was the Kawasaki engine a prototype? Somewhere in the SC&M mag there is an article about someone taking two Kawasaki 1000cc engines and making a V8 type of engine, could the  "illegal"  engine be that engine? I believe it was an Aussie creation that was fit into a midget.

He usually made the main in his prelim night and ended up C main ish on Saturday. Fast car and fun to watch. Under powered but nimble. What gives with the DQ? It's not like he was dominating and it's not like he was dangerous either. Thought the Chili Bowl prided itself on very limited rules.

Someone over IOW mentioned that they thought that the car was chain drive.  If that is the case, that is probably the reason for the DQ.  With record numbers of entries pouring in, they may have wanted to stop a massive influx of 1000 cc micro sprints showing up to race.  When they DQ'd the Kiwi V8, it was to 'nip in the bud' the idea of more V8s showing up, because someone would figure out how to jam a 410 into a midget.  If that happened, they would be picking cars out of the rafters every night.

The car is NOT chain drive;  Here is what Jerry posted on his facebook page.  I am going to try to remember how to post a photo.  There are a few photos of it on facebook.  By the way - the other full midget Evans entry - Estes will not be driving it - Scott Evans will.  Sad - another driver out of a ride.

The highly creative purpose built Chili Bowl midget #118 has been disqualified for the 2022 Chili Bowl. Earlier today Chili Bowl officials called Scott Evans and told him they were not going to let him enter the purpose built Chili Bowl # 118. The car was very fast in the Chili Bowl arena with his best ever year putting him fast qualifer and high point average of all the Texas entrants, leading him to carrying the Texas flag in the opening ceremonies and on to the B-main, the night of the finals.
We are disappointed that the decision was made to disqualify the car for the 2022 race. Scott Evans and Sparky Grape should be commended for their efforts to create a inexpensive car under the Chilli Bowl rules that performed so well.
The car has a large fan following at the Chili Bowl. We want to thank everyone that applauded the
# 118 Chili Bowl car... Salute

Maybe nobody on hosehead knows that answer. I'm curious too.

Paul Cook , we respectfully have been not trying to stir that up publicly. Scott will tell you when he sees you.
