How many of you thought that was a bad call to throw the yellow when the leaders were fighting for the lead?

I got a better idea....quit making the race so long they need a planned pitstop in the middle. We're racing Sprint Cars afterall.

Everyone knew before the race started when the yellow was coming out. What are they suppose to do? You cant wait until there is not a race for the lead, a race for 9th is just as important. You can not just make this a judgement call, as there will be someone getting screwed.

I hate the pit stop as much as anybody, but we all knew before hand when it was coming out.

Only way to run 40 laps is if it goes green to checkered. 35 lap feature, you only have room for about 10 caution laps, so we would have to go back to 30 lap features.

I vote we go to back to 30 lap A-mains, like it was in 2008 and prior. 2009 was 40 laps, and they stopped on lap 22 for fuel.

Then we go back to the argument that 30 laps is not fitting for the Knoxville Nationals.......

Think it's pretty simple to fix this. Throw the yellow when the leader crosses after completing their 25th lap.

Make it clear this is the plan. No one can complain at that point because there is no human consideration - it's a black and white situation.

That's what they do at the Tuscarora 50.

I like this idea. Throw the checkers at 25, race to the flag and then any passing that takes place in lap 25 will be honored, not lost.

What about large tanks for longer races?

30 laps is a regular show at some tracks. I know Knoxville likes short features for some reason but come on, 50 laps is fine even if it requires a fuel stop. Larger fuel cells and harder tires that will last the whole race would be the best solution but the teams aren't into that. I'm not sure how much cost and effort it would be to mount a larger fuel cell or if it would be practical.

If they would have thrown the yellow at the half way point, lap 25. I believe Donny was leading. Kyle was all over him and my guess is that Donny would have been scored the leader. Not sure why they waited a lap unless they wanted to wait for the outcome of the battle for the lead.

I completely agree with this put silver crown tanks on them. Once a year slap twice the fuel on the back of the cars that nobody is familiar with or knows how the car will react and turn them loose for 50 laps. That will be entertaining

This has been something going on for about 11yrs ago and is here to stay. They all knew basically when the caution was going to come out as it is the same every year barring a caution around that time. They are not going to mandate bigger fuel cells for 1 race or a small % of races that have an open red. I like the 50lap aspect and was actually hoping they would make it 60 laps this year for the 60th running but good with 50. Saturdays situation was the first time it happened in 11 runnings so less than 10%, and it's no different than in football when the team is driving and only has 3secs before halftime and has a first and goal from the 1. Decision has to be made on FG or go for it with potential to come up empty even though you still have 3more downs. The teams know the situation & so do the drivers

They did throw it at half way, LOL. The threw the yellow at the conclusion of the 25th lap. Every car completed 25 laps, then the caution came out. Larson was leading at the line when they crossed it the last time, and the caution was thrown as the last car crossed to complete lap 25. Every team knew this is how it would happen.

If they would have thrown it when the leaders crossed on lap 25, then they would have had to go back to the last completed lap, lap 24, with 26 to go after the open red.

Donny led lap 24, Larson led lap 25. Maybe it just looked different because Larson and Schatz crossed the line to start lap 26 when the light came on, but, when a caution comes out, they go back to the last completed lap, which was 25.

That is exactly what they did. As soon as the last car completed the 25th lap, the caution was displayed. Larson was leading when they crossed the line to start the 25th lap. Donny led lap 24, Larson led lap 25. Every car must cross the line to complete the lap.

We should continue to beat this dead horse for another 11 years...........................................

The Nationals are 50 laps.  There is going to be an open red somewhere past halfway.  The decision on when to throw the yellow is predetermined.  They aren't going to put bigger fuel cells on.  They are never going back to 30 laps.  Shall we have this discussion again next year?.......................say, August 14th, 2022?

Another fun fact---------------there are literally thousands of other sprint car races each year you can attend, or watch, that aren't 50 laps if you don't like 50 lap races with fuel stops.  It's kinda like movies.  I hate sappy movies, and musicals.  So I don't watch them.  I watch the types of movies I enjoy rather than watch a type of movie I hate, just so I can complain about it.

I agree.  They could require them to put on bigger fuel cells or shorten the race 10 laps or so.
