I get on this site once month to read news but because we go to Sioux Falls/Brandon,SD to their races I looked up info on the new track.  This has obviously been discussed here long ago (and often) but I didn't see it, I just don't see him being able to make those driver payouts, absolutely the greatest thing for 410 sprints, 305 sprints and street stocks I've ever seen as far as those HUGE unheard of weekly payouts BUT how long can he do it......  Mind boggling to say the least.

Read the fine print on the website it says:  Payouts subject to change

Also saw on their box office website that you can pay $20 for the May 14 Test and Tune Night (I don't know anyone willing to pay to watch hotlaps only)

Having said that, it will be tough, but I'd say the biggest issue is their business model.  I believe they announced most (if not all) of their purses, and travel program based on selling season tickets at premium (for dirt track weekly racing standards) prices.  I see they are on twitter trying to drive traffic to purchase season tickets, so I'm guessing season tickets aren't selling like hot cakes like they had anticipated.

Time will tell if their business model will work.  If it doesn't, purses will decrease in the following years or the venue will be used for other purposes that will allow themto make money (concerts, Monster trucks, etc.)

z-man, really we are talking about a weekly purse at one track, and you are comparing it to two traveling series, plus the NSL would not be having that kind of payout if it wasn't for BMS and dont forget about the tow money $1100 to start for alot of teams oh and the qualifying $$ fist five spots.

Simply stating what 410 sprint car teams will be racing for in our area. As far as comparing a weekly track to a traveling series I think this is a pretty fair comparison.

Jackson Motorplex (7) nights paying the standard NSL purse.

Knoxville Raceway (9) nights paying the standard NSL purse.

Badlands (12) nights paying their standard purse.

Good luck to all teams where ever they choose to race...z

I'd say Z-man's assessment is fair.  Example:  Every Friday night in Jackson when they are racing 410s with the exception of higher paying shows that is the standard purse, much better than Badlands.  Regardless to each their own and it's a great time to race in the Midwest..

Drove down into Badlands yesterday, and what is going on there is nothing short of incredible... As far as facilities are concerned, this place will be top shelf it appears to me.

Z-man, $35 bucks this Saturday for a $5000 to win 410 show? Badlands charges $20 and has two 1000 to win support classes. And their 100,000 Grand opening show is $30 for a ticket. Care to discuss pricing now?

Wasn't this post about payouts?...which most would agree is comparable.

admission prices are all on the promotor IMO.  There are tracks that charge $50 for a WoO show and others that charge $30.  Same purse, sanction fee and teams.

It's really on the promotor to charge what they think the market will pay and to make sure they cover their expenses and purse.

NSL is $20 at Jackson and $15 at Knoxville and NSL price varies from track to track.

Badlands charges $20 for their weekly Saturday night show.

Knoxville Nationals range from $173-198 for a 4 night package (individual night tickets start at $41 each)

Badlands has a ticket price of $175 for their 3 day $250,000 Rock n Roll Gold Cup (individual night tickets start at $60 each)

personally, I'll pay what I feel is worth it to me, where the race is and what sanctioning body has no effect on that.  Heck, If I remember correctly I paid $15 to the Iowa State Fair Speedway last season for a weekly show of hobby stocks, mods, 305's, trucks and stock cars....  And they pay squat compared to what NSL, Badlands and Knoxville pay out in purse $$ every week.

NSL crowd at 34 Raceway was not that great last year. So I guess Amy decided the answer was to get more money from each fan. Probably will result in fewer fans but still may mean a few more dollars for her.

The big problem at 34 is getting out after the races are over. One narrow 2 lane black top to get back to old hyway 34. Plus train tracks across the road with coal trains running all night. Had to wait on 2 trains plus the usual traffic jam last year. Even without a sellout crowd it took me 2.5 hours to get home after the show last year and I left  (tried to anyway) after the sprint A main. They ran the 4 cly class A last. And I only live 45 min from the racetrack!!! I think that hurts the crowd more than anything else.

In my opinion, no real dirt fan pays extra money because the stands are paved of gold. lol

BMS is spending a ton of money, not that Huset's was that big of sh*t hole compared to more than a few tracks in the midwest.

It's obvious that the fans are going to be expected to pay for the upgrades with some of the ludicrous ticket prices that BMS is asking.

It's the same way at the pawn shop, asking $20 to $30 dollars more per ticket than a majority of venues charge or would charge for the same show.

Yes, all the upgrades are great, all that matters though at the end of the night is was the racing any good.

Like the pawn, BMS will be all about the VIP's.

I'm not a weekly supporter, I chase specials, I see one or two I may hit at BMS for the price asked, but Jackson, NRP, Rocky, PJ, Brown Cty, & DSFSW all have some good specials this year. Lookin' forward to the season.

In the end, people who want to pay extra for a BMS ticket will and those who don't, won't.

quite sure, like the shows at the pawn, there will be more than a few FREE tickets given away and there's never anything wrong with FREE.

It is funny how in the Sioux Fu area, that when out and about, more than a few people are under the impression that CB invented dirt racing.(The way they are bragging up BMS) Add that many of them that are talking, never spent a night at Huset's in the past. lol

Time will tell wink

I wonder if they have a policy against someone parking in the lot and streaming Knoxville. You would get to support a good racetrack, watch good racing, and still get the smell of methanol and dirt!  wink

can anyone in the midwest region possibly accept the fact you have hundreds of miles between the tracks who are now acting like they were grandfathered to be annointed as the only track in a given time zone "allowed" to race Saturday nights?

Gold stands?  Nope, that dont impress me.  Nice bathrooms with running water doesnt necessarily trip my trigger either, but my wife and daughter would both pay extra to get in for those amenities.  Smile

I have heard ZERO concern from fans or competitors where I live (Knoxville).

If Badlands wants to race Saturdays, they can. No one has ever stopped them from doing so (if I remember correctly, Burlington, IA runs Saturday Nights and runs sprint cars too, never ever mentioned though).

I-80 or Eagle in Nebraska runs Saturday nights too I think (and run sprints regularly).

From the thread originator, his only concern was how will they be able to pay the purse they are advertising.  He said nothing about "XXX track being the only one allowed to run on Saturday"

Personally, I don't view it as a bad thing that Badlands is running Saturday night.  There are teams based in Sioux Falls that will continue to race at Knoxville and there are others based there that will now race at Badlands or do what is best for their race team.  Same goes for some of the travelers that really have no allegiance to any track, sanction, etc..

For Terry McCarl (personally, I'm not a fan), it makes BUSINESS SENSE for him to race at Badlands (that's where almost all of of his sponsors are located).  No one can fault him for that.

The bonus I see is that pretty much EVERY midwest based race team can race in higher purse races.  The only drawback is for those teams that are WILLING and ABLE to race more than 2 nights per week (410 teams only).  They now have River Cities or Jackson (Friday), Badlands or Knoxville (Saturday) and nothing on a Sunday unless the WoO are in the area and racing on a Sunday.

I wish that there was a way for every track to have the higher purse offering and those teams that are ABLE to attend and support all three of them (we need more tracks with solid programs, not less).

I honestly have no idea how Chuck Brennan plans on making money on the track or the pawnshop. I will say that I went to Grand Funk Railroad with my father in law at the pawnshop, he won the tickets. That's an incredible place to see a concert, the farthest you can be from the stage is 30 feet. I'll definitely pay full price for the right show there.

As for the track facilities, they're incredible. Knoxville is the only dirt track I've been to that compares. I've been doing business with the track and the contractors doing the work. Dave Galyen is the director of facilities, he's a hell of a nice guy, but was too busy to give me the tour so he told me to feel free to check it out. All of the shitty old beer stands on the midway are gone, all aluminum bleachers with backrests, middle upper section is individual seats with armrests, all new musco lighting, huge video boards, new concessions, restrooms, suites. All new catch fencing, they're paving the entire infield. It looks like a whole new place. It's pretty cool.
