USAC West Coast Sprint Car Series

USAC WEST COAST SPRINT CARS HEADLINE SATURDAY’S ACTION AT HANFORD

MARCH 29, 2016... This Saturday, April 2nd, the USAC West Coast Sprint Cars will make their first of three appearances at the Keller Auto Speedway at Kings Fairgrounds. Promoted by Ron Vander Weerd and Bubby Morse, the Hanford, California oval will also showcase the Western RaceSaver Sprint Cars, IMCA Modifieds, and IMCA Stock Cars. The pit gates will open at 3:00pm, the front gates open at 5:00pm, and racing is scheduled for 7:00pm. NOTICE TO RACERS: Saturday’s race at Hanford will be run under the USAC West Coast Rule Book and a $35 entry fee will be collected. The Hoosier 105/16 Medium is the ONLY legal right rear tire and all four corners must be Hoosier. Cockpit adjustable shocks are NOT allowed and engine restrictor rules are 1-7/8” with open heads and 2-3/16” with ASCS cylinder heads. The weight rule is 1,475 lbs. with driver and the USAC West Coast Sprint Car Rule Book can be found online at www.westcoastsprintcars.com and www.usacracing.com.

Since March 14, 2009, the Kings County Fairgrounds has hosted forty-one West Coast Sprint Car events. Ryan Bernal and Richard Vander Weerd lead all drivers with seven victories and veteran Peter Murphy set the 1-lap qualifying track record of 15.290 on March 13, 2010. Last season, Bernal, Vander Weerd, “Hollywood” Danny Faria Jr., and Jace Vander Weerd celebrated main event wins at Hanford. A complete series win list at Keller Auto Speedway at Kings Fairgrounds is at the end of this release.

Entering the fourth point race, Brody Roa (Garden Grove, California) sits atop the USAC West Coast point standings. Piloting the BR Performance owned #91R HD Industries / Lee & Norma Leonard Maxim, Roa ran fourth at Bakersfield Speedway on March 19th. To date, Brody has one Woodland Auto Display Fast Time Award, three top-10 finishes, and 3 feature laps led to his credit. The 360 Western World Champion has one series triumph and will be looking to add a Hanford victory to his resume.

D.J. Johnson (Stockton, California) has climbed to second in the chase for the championship. Driving the family owned #33 Proplant Farm Services / J. Milano Company Eagle, Johnson had a solid run at Bakersfield with a third place finish. At press time, D.J. has one feature win, one heat race victory, one BR Motorsports / King Racing Products Hard Charger Award, three top-10 finishes, and 30 feature laps led on the year. On Saturday, the former USAC Western Classic Rookie of the Year will have his sights on his second career West Coast win.

Jace Vander Weerd (Visalia, California) has risen to third in the point chase. Racing the family owned #88 Vander Weerd Construction / Stone Gate Development Maxim, Jace earned the Woodland Auto Display Fast Time Award and ran second to Troy Rutherford at Bakersfield. To date, the 2010 USAC/CRA Rookie of the Year has one Keizer Wheels / Competition Suspension Inc. Semi-Main win, two top-10 finishes, and one feature lap led on the season. Vander Weerd will be looking for his seventh career West Coast triumph this Saturday night.

After winning at Bakersfield, Troy Rutherford (Ojai, California) has climbed to fourth in the point standings. Piloting his #11 AAA Propane Service / Trench Shoring Spike, Rutherford has one heat race victory, two top-10 finishes, and 29 feature laps led to his credit. The 1997 SCRA Rookie of the Year earned one of his three West Coast triumphs at Hanford and will be a threat to win the 30-lap feature.

Trey Marcham (Oklahoma City, Oklahoma) is currently ranked fifth in the championship points. Driving Steve Watt’s #81 Maxwell Industries / Steve Watt Enterprises Maxim, Marcham scored fifth at Bakersfield after starting ninth. Heading to Hanford, last season’s Rookie of the Year has two top-10 finishes in the campaign. This Saturday, Trey will have his sights on his first win at the Keller Auto Speedway at Kings Fairgrounds.

Currently fourteenth in points, Ryan Timmons (Pleasant Hill, California) leads the chase for Rookie of the Year honors. Colton Slack (Brentwood, California) and Johnny White (Bakersfield, California) are also in contention.

Among the other drivers expected to be in action are Max Adams, Richard Vander Weerd, Austin Liggett, Tristan Guardino, Jeff Sibley, Kevin Barnes, “Hollywood” Danny Faria Jr., “G-Man” Geoffrey Strole, Cody Majors, “The Rickster” Ricky Kirkbride, Shannon McQueen, and more.

Keller Auto Speedway at Kings Fairgrounds is located at 801 South 10th Avenue in Hanford, California. Adult tickets are $15, Student and Senior tickets are $12, and Kids (5 and Under) are FREE.
