CHARLES DAVIS JR. GOES WIRE-TO-WIRE IN QUEEN CREEK SHOWDOWN

SEPTEMBER 22, 2015... Leading 30-laps, “Chargin” Charles Davis Jr. of Buckeye, Arizona raced to victory at Queen Creek’s Arizona Speedway. For Davis, Saturday’s $1,750 USAC SouthWest Sprint Car triumph was his third win of the campaign. R.J. Johnson, Josh Pelkey, Andy Reinbold, and Tom Ogle chased the veteran driver to the finish line.

Piloting the Massey Motorsports’ #50 RSS Industries / Rod End Supply RSS, Davis earned his thirteenth career series win. The five-time Arizona champion began the night by winning the second 10-lap heat race and placing fifth out of twenty-four racers in passing points. Heading to Saturday’s “Brawl For It All” at Canyon, “Chargin” Charles ranks second in points with six heat race victories, two top qualifier awards, one semi-main win, one hard charger award, four heat race victories, nineteen top-10 finishes, and 95 feature laps led.

R.J. Johnson of Laveen, Arizona had to settle for second in the 30-lap main event. Racing Bill Michael’s #77M Kodiak Products / Beal’s Auto Body Sherman, Johnson ran second to Josh Pelkey in his heat race and placed sixth in passing points. The point leader left Queen Creek with a 59-point advantage on the strength of eight feature wins, six heat race victories, one top qualifier award, two hard charger awards, nineteen top-10 finishes, and 140 feature laps led to his credit.

Peoria, Arizona’s Josh Pelkey had a solid night at Queen Creek with a third place finish. Driving Robbie and Gaye Allen’s #12 ABC Body Shop / Napa Auto Parts Maxim, Pelkey won the program’s first 10-lap heat race and was seated third in passing points. To date, the 1997 ASCA Champion sits fifth in the standings with one heat race victory, one top qualifier award, and twelve top-10 finishes on the season.

Andy Reinbold of Gilbert, Arizona had one of his best runs of the year with a fourth place finish from ninth. Piloting Todd Underwood’s #19 AME Electrical / Ross Equipment Rentals Spike, Reinbold claimed fourth in his heat race and ranked ninth in passing points. The veteran driver heads to Canyon placed ninth in the championship points with one heat race victory and eight top-10 finishes on the year.

Surprise, Arizona’s Tom Ogle scored fifth in the Queen Creek main event after starting seventh. Racing his #46 RSS Industries / JT Engineering RSS, Ogle claimed fourth in his heat race and placed seventh in passing points. In limited action, the veteran driver is seventeenth in the point chase with one top qualifier award and two top-10 finishes in the campaign.

After charging from eighth to take third in his heat race, Matt Rossi of South Central, Arizona was the night’s top qualifier in passing points. Driving the family owned #02 Apache Scapes / IWR Spike, Rossi claimed fourteenth in the main event. The Western World Champion is currently ranked third in the standings with one feature win, one heat race victory, three top qualifier awards, three hard charger awards, eleven top-10 finishes, and 27 feature laps led to his credit.

Phoenix, Arizona’s “The Radio Flyer” Bruce St. James earned the night’s “Hard Charger / Best Passing Job” honors with an eleventh place run from twenty-fourth. Piloting his #7K Woodland Auto Display / Weld Racing Maxim, St. James took eighth in his heat race and was ranked twenty-fourth in passing points. At press time, the veteran driver sits eighth in the standings with four heat race victories, one top qualifier award, and four top-10 finishes.

Stevie Sussex of Tempe, Arizona drove to victory in the third 10-lap heat race at Queen Creek. Racing Mike Burkhart’s #21AZ Stratis Construction / Westin Diversified RSS, Sussex placed second in passing points and finished sixth in the main event. Currently, the hard charging driver is fourth in points with three feature wins, three hear race victories, two top qualifier awards, three hard charger awards, thirteen top-10 finishes, and 98 feature laps led in the campaign.

This Saturday, September 26th, the USAC SouthWest Sprint Car Series will return to action at Kevin Montgomery's Canyon Speedway Park in Peoria, Arizona. The $2,500-to-win "Brawl For It All" is the second round of the "Grudge Series" with the USAC West Coast Sprints and will also feature the 9th World Vapor IMCA Modifieds, Mini Sprints, Arizona Differential Pure Stocks, and Dwarf Cars.
