I'm a sprint car fan. I love both, but my favorite is non wing. Being from Missouri, I don't get to see much non wing, anymore. The next racing adventure on my bucket list is Indiana Sprint Week. A couple of years ago I was ordering Bud Hunnicutt's book. While visiting with him on the phone, he summed it up perfectly. He asked if I had ever been to Indiana Sprint Week. He told me I really needed to make it at least once. He said, "you'll see more passing in one heat than you'll see all night at WoO show." Non wing racing is better in every aspect, other than speed. More side by side, more passing, actually backin it in the corners, actually broadsliding through the corners, the driver is more important, and etc. I've seen not so great non wing shows, but much fewer than not so great winged shows. With all that being said, the pure speed of winged 410's is just impressive. I was at Moberly Friday night. Great night of racing all around. The modifieds, late models, and NSL sprints all put on great shows. After watching the modifieds and late models and the sprints would take the track, the speed difference was incredible. I've always noticed it, but never really dwelled on it. Something about Friday night made the speed difference really stand out, at least to me. Maybe it's because I'm usually suffering through the fenders and not paying that much attention to them, because I normally find them boring, but they put on very good shows that night. During the NSL A Main, I couldn't help thinking to myself, how the fender fans must be totally impressed and converted into sprint car fans after seeing this. For me, there's nothing in the world like sprint cars...winged or non winged.

I definitely prefer wings.
Non-winged heats are better, there's no doubt about that.
As far as A Mains, I've seen a bunch of both and I've seen alot of hug the bottom snoozers in non-winged cars. And not just in the East, but in Indiana too.

Just for fun I'd like to know how many fans are fans of winged racing and how many are fans of non-wing racing ? and state why ?

If I had my druthers, and long before the wing vs nonwing debate, I would enjoy a step back on the calendar and watch CAGELESS sprint cars at Winchester, Dayton and Salem. Those gentleman had BIG cashews on board.

There is always going to be more driver imput in a slower sprint car, and non-winged cars are slower. Thus, they have more adjustability so driver imput and crew ability makes a difference. That makes for better heats, which of course are the shortest race. I actually wish they would slow the 410 winged cars down. I'm not so sure that with todays speeds, the winged cars are that much safer than non-winged. That safety advantage was pretty evident at one time. Get rid of the high dollar engines that only the richest teams can afford in the winged divisions and you will see better racing with the winged cars than what we currently have.

I live in the Philadelphia, PA area and enjoy all kinds of racing. Heck yesterday a frind and I went to NJ for a day of road course racing and we had a good time. However, given "my druthers," I will take non-wing traditional racing over wing racing. I have driven 3 1/2 hours one way going all but right passed Wiliams Grove Speedway to see wingless sportsman race at Path Valley Speedway. These cars look like sprint cars, but do not have a tube frame, have starters and clutches, no fuel injectors but carbs on a 358 engine. Not as fast as a 305 winged sprint cars but very racey. ARDC wingless midgets also put on good shows. The USAC Sprints and Midget shows were very good this year when they came East this year, now if we can get the weather to cooperate and not lose so many events to rain. Like I said, I will watch all kinds of racing, modifieds, wing and non-wing sprints & midgets, Silver Crown cars, dirt late models, asphalt modifieds, Indy cars, and winged and non-wing super modifieds, but my favorite are traditional non-wing sprint cars

If you've never seen non-wing Sprint cars, you're missing out on some true RACING, where the driver has more to do with how fast his car goes. Look at the USAC schedule in 2015 and see if there's a race fairly close that you can go see. I live around the tulsa area and this year I was scheduled to go to a USAC show at 3 different tracks in 3 nights. It was a 6 hour drive to Nebraska and the 2nd night was rained out. We finished up at Lakeside Speedway in KC then came home the next day. It was awesome racing. Go to the USAC web page and like it or follow it and you will see 4 to 5 minute videos of most races. They are very competitive races. You will see guys come from deep in the field at most races. I won't be going to any more WOO races, as it is very rare to see a good race. Most are locked down, follow the leader type races, or this year, follow Schatz to the checkered, and I have no interest in seeing that.

I like both...However...I'm willing to drive 800+ miles 2 or 3 times a year from Posse Land to Indy to get my Non-wing fix...I don't know if I'd be as willing to do the same drive for wings...Although wing races are much easier to find!
Whomever said no one knows how to setup or drive a wingless car anymore....Have you ever watched Robert Ballou race?

Once?...
I love sprint cars however in Iowa about all I get to see is Winged action. If there were more shows with in driving distance I'd probably hit up more.
I will be hitting up a non wing and winged show with no taxi cabs this friday in Memphis, MO. One of the best race these eyes have saw was the ultimate challenge maybe 6-7 years ago, in Osky.

I agree totally with this entry. Winged sprint racing is getting about as exciting to watch Nascar. This year's Nationals was a real yawner in my opinion-the track was crap so the only place they could really run was on top so it was a 50 lap freight train from beginning to end. All 4 nights weren't the admission price so having a non wing nationals somewhere other than Knoxville would be great. I personally will not attend another race at knoxville again in my lifetime because I purchased a stadium chair to use at races and sitting on bleacher seats anywhere makes me almost unable to walk at the end of an evening. When I attemped to enter the National's Saturday night program they wouldn't let me bring my chair in. I had used it two of the three previous nights with no problems. I think that action by them at the last minute was absolutely screwed. And actually the track was crap all 4 nights. Anyone else can do what they wish but I will never darken their doorstep again.

Were you at the same Nationals I was? Enjoyed all 9 days of racing. The only night that was may of even been remotely questionable was Wednesday night which was slighly heavy.
Were you watching the racing Thursday night b/c it was phenomenal.
I don't blame them for not letting you in with a stadium chair especially on Saturday. Everytime I'm at the races when someone brings one of those to sit on for reserved seating, when it's a packed house I cringe, especially at a place that has no seat backing.
If you enjoy the comforts of a stadium seat couldn't you bring a blanket or some seat cushions like all the other fans?

Your opinion of the Nationals is yours and mine is mine. I bought my chair at the KROC benefit auction this past Feb. and had Knoxville's logo applied to the back before I bought it. It is a 18 inch seat which fits in the area alotted for the space for someone to sit at Knoxville. I sat on a cushion borrowed to me by my sister-in-law and had to get up twice to walk around because my hips were killing me. Never have that problem when I'm using my chair.

I've posted numerous examples of great WoO action this year, this may be the best year they've had in many years for racing.

Osky had some phenominal Non Wing shows at the Ultimate Challenge. One that comes to mind was a Heat Race win won by "Bulldog" Swindell when he got out and bowed to the roaring approval of the croud.
I would be happy as hell if Osky got rid of the Wings and had a big dollar 2 day Non Wing Show.
